Summary: The Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) is a nonprofit organization run by and for fans to provide access to and preserve the history of fanworks and fan cultures. This is an introduction to their projects: Fanlore, Archive of Our Own (AO3), Open Doors, Transformative Works & Cultures, and legal advocacy.
Other places it appears: OTW website || You Tube || tumblr || Vimeo || Download: Sendspace (135mb),
I need to start this with a big *PHEW*. This has been quite a project. I was approached by the OTW Communications Committee in January 2013 to see if I'd be interested in putting together a video about the OTW. It sounded like an interesting challenge so I said yes. I admit I didn't realise at the time what a "challenge" it would end up being. Let's just say I have learned a HEAP during this process.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everybody who has supported me throughout this project. To those who have held my hand, watched early drafts and given me a shoulder tocry lean on.
This video is a joint effort between Claudia (from the OTW communications committee) and myself. This is really her "baby". We've worked very closely together over the last 15 months to produce this (I'd say over 200 emails have been exchanged between us). It's been a huge amount of work (brainstorming ideas, sourcing works, gathering permissions, creating a multitude of screen caps, etc etc), made a little easier by her constant support, quick responses, help and ideas (*clinks glasses* we did it...).
I'd also like to thank to
cupidsbow who assisted in the early drafts, gave me technical feedback and provided support when it was needed most. <3
Thanks to the (over 50!) contributors to this video (and to all those who gave permission to use their work - even if it didn't make the final cut).
And finally, thanks to the OTW Board who gave it the thumbs ups. :)
This is the longest, most complex video I've ever made. Thanks for watching if you choose to do so. :)

Now I'm going to go watch it. I was just so excited to see the post! Be back.

It's different to anything else I've made so I hope it's enjoyable enough. As it's informative it's not exactly full of action... (or cute boys)
xx

Wow. Awesome. Very well done. I learned a lot about this organization I wasn't previously aware of.
Congratulations on finally completing!

It also makes me feel kinda... powerful, to be part of something so big and self-sustaining :D :D

Plus, good representation of art styles and fandoms and relationship models.
Yeah. This was part of the concerns with the vid, so I'm so glad that worked for you.

It's quite remarkable isn't it? Before making this I had no idea there were so many randoms and so many people producing such fabulous works. The fact that AO3 has now well over a million works posted is testament to how big it really is.
Thanks so much for watching and leaving such a positive comment. :))

Also haha you did use the film a lot. Heeeee. <3

I'm so glad you liked that. The first version had the logo cut in two (I was thinking about it as an umbrella), but then kept looking at that arrow thinking it would be good if I could make it move. The amount of key framing in this video is off the scale (well, for me anyway).
I was so happy to be able to use the film. :))

I'm so excited it's in the world and can be shared :)
You did amazingly!!!!
