Thanks as usual to my wonderful beta [livejournal.com profile] _sharvie_. Especially for her immense patience while I sent her umpteen copies of this and for some awesome suggestions. You know I love ya right?

Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maichan808 and SVS friend Toni for their valuable feedback. Thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] spn_sceneit's Inspiration Post and [livejournal.com profile] from_the_corner for the song suggestion.

Vid Stuff

The last couple of years I've made tribute vids to all those lovely characters Kripke and Co. kill off during the season. All the characters in this vid have been recurring characters, except one. I'm completely guilty of putting him in because a) he fit a lyric *hides* and b) I've grown a little attached to the idea of him and he felt like more that just a MOTW.

These aren't character studies as such as each one has such a short amount of time, but what I tried to do was catch a little bit of the essence of the character's life and then demise.

I wouldn't say I've angsted over this vid but boy did I play with it a lot. I was pretty set on the structure from the start but for some reason I just couldn't settle on the transitions. Cross dissolves? Straight cuts? Flashes? Blurs? How long should this cross dissolve go for? What's the best way to signal new sections? Ahhh! Just stop already! So I did. It will have to do.

I am nervous about this one. It's not what I call a "big idea" vid. It's more a vid I wanted to do for myself as a way of saying goodbye to some memorable characters in Season 4.

**not my sentiment at all. Luckily these words are not mentioned in the song. Also the irony of "It's something unpreditable.." isn't lost on me. Of course it's friggin' predictable. You're a SPN OC!! What do you expect!?

Disclaimer: No money made but comment are gratefully (and warmly) accepted. :)

oooh, new vid icon. My hubby is good to me. <3

Ash, this is terrific. So good to see the supportings getting the love. I liked the blurry fades and how you meshed the lyrics with the images.

I'm glad you included the one that wasn't technically recurring, because...yes.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-07 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much hun! I think the supports always do a great job. :)

Thanks so much for watching and commenting! *hugs*

Heehee! It seems like I'm ending every night this week with a new version. *lol* I love the changes you made in this one, it totally works. That laugh! And Ruby! I think you picked the best line and the images...I know we tweaked that by small degrees the whole time but it is soooo goood. Home run on that one for sure!

And not to fret at all on this....you totally gave every character his due beautifully...even not!bro!wincester. :P

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-07 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh darling! I know!..... how many friggin' versions?! Really!? I think it might have beaten "Sex and Violence"... *g*

I still feel kinda.... well, you know... about this one. But at least it's finished! :)

You know I mentioned to someone recently that vidding isn't an isolated experience. I've mentioned it before but working with you and anybody else that contributes is so much a part of the whole vidding thing and it's the bit I love the most! So, you know, THANKS! <3

Oh hon this is simply amazing, perfect timing, I love the occasional blurs and the scenes you chose were so well thought out and flowed so well together. Lovely use of voice overs for each character and the whole thing was liltingly haunted by the music track - great final scene, always love the way you open and start your vids.

Thanks for sharing this one. :))

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Thanks you so much Ellie - especially for mentioning the opening ... that was as fiddly as hell but I had such a lot of fun working it out.

Thanks again for your lovely comment. It means a lot.

Yay! Thanks so much hun!! I'm thrilled for the rec! I'm glad you liked it. Thank you. :D :D

Nice job, honey. And I'm pretty sure it's true that once you hit a certain percentage in fan fic appearances, you become an honorary recurring character, lol. I'm still mad they killed him off...

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Yes, indeed! :)

Thanks so much for popping in! :D

So this song is almost always guaranteed to get me choked up, anyway, but this vid made that a SURE THING. Even though I wanted most of those characters dead, given they were demons and were fucking with my boys, it was still really chest-clenchy in context. And I loved the bits of dialogue you put in. Awesome vid, hon!

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much sweetie! It was kinda bitter sweet loosing Ruby.... after messing with my Sammy the way she did I was glad to see her die (especially in between the boys like that!) but she really was quite a delicious character.

Thanks again for watching and for your lovely comment.

What a wonderful tribute to some equally wonderful characters.

THIS. How true! Loved this vid - a nice tribute to some awesome characters! Thank you for making it. :D

Nice job sweetie, I was sorry to see Pamela go, she was awesome. I would have liked her to stick around:)

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hey hun! Thanks so much. Yeah, I was completely surprised when they bumped her off. They really didn't need to to that... :(

Though I remember when it happened thinking... "she'll be one for the vid!"

Thanks for watching and commenting. :D:D

I liked the tweaks and changes you made to this. I also really enjoyed the overall editing style and the alternating stutter cuts and slow blurs. This is definitely a worthy member of your ongoing tribute series.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks darlin'. Oh man! Tweaks... I just couldn't stop fiddling with it.

Thanks again for your suggestions. :)

I really, really liked it. You've chosen some great (and memorable!) scenes and I loved the actual characters' lines.
Great job!

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh thanks so much hun! I'm glad you liked it. It's funny when you first mentioned the song that I thought there's no way a song called "Good Riddance" could work. Glad I actually listen and realised which song it was. :D

Thanks again hun.

I commented on YouTube, but I had to say it again... I'm seriously crying here!!

I love that you included Adam, since he was a member of the boys' family even if they never truly met him. And ohhhhhh, Pamela... and my beloved Ruby! *sobs* You gave each of them a wonderful send-off. I loved it. Thank you so much for making it! :)

Yay Meg! Thanks so much hun.

Yeah - I just had to include Adam. He felt like he could have seriously been a part of their family. Shame it wasn't to be.

Thanks so much for leaving me wonderful comments! :D

Gorgeous! I especially enjoyed the way you blended the audio in.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so very much. So glad the audio worked for you.... I'm never too sure when it comes to sound bytes.

Thanks. *hugs*

Very cool! I'm still bummed they killed Pamela! *hugs*

Thanks darling!

And yes about Pamela. Ooooh and I just got an email from someone who showed this vid to the actress who played Pamela (Traci Dinwiddle) and apparently she loved it! Why does that make me want to dance around the house like a 12 year old!!

Sorry - had to squee somewhere..

Thanks so much for watching hun! :D :D

So, so FANTASTIC! Seamless and smooth, I thought the transitions were EXCELLENT and the clip choices perfect. What an amazing tribute (esp. to Lilith, who I never realized we got to know as well as we did). You ROCK. *worships*

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
Dei!! Thanks darlin'. You say the most wonderful things! I'm glad you liked the transitions - it's not often the transitions give me so much jip. (it's usually the clips!)

Thanks again sweetie.

What a great vid idea (will have to look at S3 too). It makes me remember what a lot of issues I have with the way the show kills off its characters, too many of them in such a pointless way.

Re: Time of Your Life

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much hun. And yes - I think that's why I've been doing these....so many endearing (and maybe not so endearing) characters meet pointless ends. Pam in particular this year. At least they allowed Ruby to play out her part over the two years....

Thanks again.

Really enjoyed watching this, such a great concept and nod to some of the most entertaining characters of season 4. Your vids never fails;)

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hi! Thanks so much hun. That's lovely to hear. (especially from an awesometastic vidder like yourself!)

:D

[identity profile] rhoboat.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, that was quite lovely! The use of the voiceovers was nicely done and really added that something extra to your vid. :D

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-08-09 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much. There were a couple of VO's I really wanted to use, so I decided to have a little something for each other. I'm so glad you thought they gave it a little something extra.

Thanks for popping by. :)

This was amazing. You have a great sense of image and timing. I am so glad that I now have high speed internet and have discovered your work. I'm going to add you to my flist so I won't miss anymore.

Thank you so very much. The timing is something I always try to get right! :) I really appreciate your comment - I'm glad you found my vids too.

My turn for a late comment!

I rather enjoyed this. At first it seemed an unusual combination of the audio & visual but it worked. And it was the song that drew me into wanting to watch it. So great job on making it entertaining.

The other thing I wanted to give you props on is your audio work during the vid. My one pet hate is when people don't bother to lower the sound of their music track when putting in those grabs but you did this like a pro. And you managed to put most of them in places where there was no singing which is also pro. But in those places where there was singing, you didn't have to strain to hear what the characters were saying in the grabs through the music. Ive seen many far more experienced vidders still doing this so I am very impressed.

Great stuff!

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-10-13 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hi. Wow! Thank you so much for this thoughtful and lovely feedback.

Particularly for your compliment on the audio work. I did work very hard to make the sound grabs as seamless as I could with the soundtrack. I prefer to have all my sound bytes during the breaks in the singing, but with this one I couldn't help but put some over the singing. I'm thrilled you thought it worked well.

Thank you again. Your comment has been very encouraging.
