The boys are coming to Australia! \o/

Arck! I am ridiculously excited but also massively torn. I live in Perth so I'll have to fly to Sydney to attend. Luckily most of my family live there so seeing them again (I've already booked to go in April to celebrate my daughter's 18th and to see my new niece) will be an added bonus. But, dammit. The money. It's not that we don't have it (exactly), it's more about spending it on a luxury when there are so many more things I could (should!) be spending it on. My hubby has supported my fandom life for the last 10 years (with some ups and downs), but this one is gonna push it (The eye rolling is off the scale!). We're in the process of opening a small bar, so spending $800 to see a couple of (gorgeous!) TV stars…

*sigh*

(I seriously need to adopt the "what the hell, it's just money!" attitude…;D)

It's very exciting. It's been in the works for the last 2 years. The building is currently being transformed, but we are still waiting for the liquor licence. The paper work has been a nightmare (and some of the costs involved).

*fingers crossed* we get notification soon (should be this month).

I was in the exact same situation, re: the money. I felt like it was selfish to spend the money on something that not only was a luxury, but a fleeting luxury that was *just for me*. But then I started saving up little by little, birthday money, babysitting money, loose change, etc. and while I was waiting for silver tickets to go on sale, I ended up saving enough money to buy the gold tickets (NJ CON).

Literally one day after I dropped the $750 on my tickets, our roof failed (7 feet of snow will do that to a roof) and now my house is crawling with contractors handing me bills left and right. And guess what??? I DON'T REGRET IT AT ALL!!

When you save up little by little (literally kept it rolled up in a sock in my skivvies drawer), you don't miss it at all.

Hey hun! Thank you! It's not that I don't have the money (exactly - I mean, the credit card is loaded because of the bar venture so there's not much breathing space), it's more that I just feel guilty spending it on something like this. I lack that wonderful attitude so many people have of "just do it!".

But yeah, I have been thinking about ways I can justify it and I think working an extra day (I don't work Fridays) might be my way of doing that. I'd only have to work 3 Fridays and it'd be paid for….Hmmmmm…..

I'm thinking about going to a con myself and there's one in Germany. J2 is not coming to that one I guess. But what's stopping me is not a ticket, but the money spent on transportation and while I am there. Added up that money is much more than the ticket. I'm not working so I really don't feel like I could throw that money away like that. I think there will be more cons, at least until the whole series end.

Exactly for me too. The con ticket isn't really a problem (though still not exactly cheap - I have no idea how so many people afford to do these things), it's the flights that add to the cost. Luckily I have family there so accommodation will be covered.

I think the Js will still be doing cons once the show ends (for years maybe!) but I'd be doubtful they'd come to Australia again. Though, hard to say for sure I suppose. They might want a holiday! :)

I've never attended a Con before, and while there is one in the UK and several in Europe, I've just never been able to justify it, so I know how you feel.

Perhaps if you cut a few personal luxuries and save the money, then you can justify it to yourself and your Hubby? Maybe ash in some Birthday/Christmas presents and favours?

I've read so many wonderful accounts of people's experiences at Cons, and it does sound like a once in a lifetime experience that I'm sure you'll treasure (I mean Jared's hair in person?! That's gotta sway it, right!!*g*) But yeah, it's a challenging decision to make.

Justifying it is difficult, thats for sure. Once I found some cheap flights I felt like I didn't have a good excuse not to go.

And the thought of looking at the guys in the flesh was just too damn irresistible…

Hi. The idea is to create a cosy, local "english pub" feel. The small bar licence only allows max of 120 patrons so it's ideal for what's trying to be achieve. It is in our local neighbourhood. The whole suburb is being rejuvenated and a bar would me perfect for it all. JUST have to get that damn licence...

But yeah - they've only been here once for (or maybe twice but for a holiday once I think). It really is a must do, I know.

(I've got the added dilemma of it being over the weekend of my niece's wedding. she's having it in Fiji and I'm not going because I've said I can't afford it - which is absolutely true!, but if I then go to this con it would just look…bad. The family politics! So, if I went it would have to be a secret from parts of my family….).

First up...you absolutely have to go, if only for the girls like me who live just across the ditch and can't possibly fund it. *wails* They're SO CLOSE! :(

Secondly, the things you "should" be spending the money on, are they the kinds of things that will reappear next month and the month after that, no matter how much cash you throw at them now? If so, then go, snaffle your moment in the spotlight of fangirlish glee that is J2 on your doorstep. Those pesky other things will still be there when you get back.

Thanks sweetie. I ended up finding some cheap flights (didn't think I could find anything that cheap to Sydney from Perth!) so I just had to do it. I know I would kick myself if I didn't. It's an awesome way for me to celebrate 10 years of fanning this show (and the boys *g*).

It is! Well, it will be when we actually get the licence. It's painful waiting for that very important piece of paper. It's looking good (no objections) but it won't be until we get it I'll believe it's actually happening. :)

As for the money, you can or you can't afford it. And if you can, it's just money if *this* is the thing that brings you happiness. I spent a lot of money on "experiences" that have no tangible worth and nothing to show for it, but I don't regret a thing.

I've always been told, you have to spend money to make money - so just think of the $800 on the boys and promotional costs (you can pimp your restaurant to everyone you meet, including the boys)!
