I have a heap of recs I want to post. I had epic fail with everything fan related last night so I shall try again tonight.

I lost (most probably deleted) my entire S4 motels post for the SuperWiki Motels entry. All the coding, links and info. A huge amount of work just friggin' gone. Sucks big time. I just don't know when I'll have the motivation to do it all again. /o\ *sigh* Maybe in a few weeks.

I've lost typed things but what happened to me the most is the thing where you resize a painting in photoshop to show someone the WIP and then... overwrite the file like a pro. It's like... "30 h of work lost! NOOO FML etc." repainting everything? not likely. xD

Losing original work must be just awful. I know I can at least source all the info again through my LJ motel post. The information still survives, it's just collecting it and re-typing it all that I have to face. If I had to re type a story or re-create art I think I would despair even more. (though I did lose a vid once. That stung!).

You have to be careful with Tumblr, most people will slap on anyone's artwork just to get notes for it, with no source or credit or anything. So the first is probably where the original artist has it and the second is someone reposting their artwork to tumblr. 99% of the time all artwork you see (coming from spn fandom) on tumblr wasn't made by the person who uploaded it.

And I'm sorry hun that sucks, that's happened to me a few times because of my stupid computer where I lost all my coding or my writing.

I might rec the above drawing at spn_artrecs since I love it so much. I guess the source you found was the original artist. Sometimes it's hard to tell where art truly comes from.

I think that's the reason why Tumblr frustrates me so much. I love looking at the work but the person who created the work is lost in all the re-blogging. I know it can sometimes be traced back to the original artist but it's not always easy - or quick. I also like to get to know the people who make stuff - not just who re-blogs stuff.

I'm glad you figured out the original artist of the drawing. I like that the reblogger linked to the direct source.

Maybe the file could be recovered? Isn't it supposed to be hard to really totally delete a file?

Perhaps this is just what paranoid people told me when I was clearing the computer that belonged to my employer.

I've tried to recover it. The problem is I made it quite a while ago (maybe in February - I've been waiting for the Wiki to fix the cap posting problem they are having) and since then I must have (somehow!!) deleted it. Our back-up drive only goes back to March and it's not there unfortunately.

We looked into recovering deleted files but it doesn't look that easy - though there is software available apparently to help - but it costs.

Ach nooooo. Sorry about the motel list.  How discouraging.  You must be beyond frustrated.  I lost a huge chunk of a recap by bumping the wrong spot on a touch screen.  I sat there and watched it all disappear.  I just had to walk away from it for a day or so.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help put it back together.

Maybe another bit of art will cheer you.  Did you see The Moose and the Frog by dephigravity?

Ah man I *hate* when that happens - that so sucks. I can certainly understand the lack of motivation to do it again. So sorry.

But THANK YOU for those art recs. *stares* Gorgeous - both the art and the subject matter. And I'm with you with the Tumblr fail - I just have so much trouble over there (and it doesn't help that for some reason so many of Tumblr blogs are this tiny font in grey against a light background. *feeling very old* Thank god for the ability to ctrl + to expand the font sizes.

I keep wanting to just "get" Tumblr... and sometimes I think I do, but it seems so ..um...detached or something. Amazing and incredible work there though. Some of those gifs are just outstanding. I just wish I could (easily) see who the original poster was and connect with that person rather than the reblogger.

Um..yeah...might be an "age" thing...My daughter has absolutely no poroblem getting into it...

Sometimes it bums me that a lot of fandom is now focused on Tumblr. Even though I'm not as active on LJ as I once was, the great thing about LJ is it's ability to foster connections and community. It doesn't seem to me like Tumblr (or even FB to an extent) is such a place. I cannot imagine starting anew in a fandom and doing it through Tumblr. Sure, I'd get all kinds of information and a lot of fantastic images - but I'm not so sure I'd learn much about the people I was getting that information from.
