Very important question.....

Hun or Hon?

I know. The world could possibly end without an answer to this.

Ok, so I know hon/hun is short for honey - but I've been using "hun" because, well it's phonetic I suppose. But "hon" is probably the correct shortened version......??

You can tell I have a lot crowding my mind tonight... feel pity for me...

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the gorgeous [livejournal.com profile] antigonesgift Hope it's wonderful hun! or... err ......hon.

PS: TWO MORE DAYS \O/. I have this kinda bouncy little butterfly feeling inside my tummy. I like it. :)

PS: Oh and "To err is human, to arr is pirate". (it's that bouncy little feeling inside that's making me posts things like that!!)

*snuggles*

Ummm, you really need to start a vid if wondering about the shortened form of honey is occupying space in your brain!

Honestly though, I've never really given a thought to either being correct, just a personal preference.

HA!! The sad thing is I have started a new vid (well, continuing on with my Dean one...) and still my brain has time to ponder the inanities of life!

And yes - I figure it comes down to personal preference, but lately I've noticed a swing toward hon over hun.... hmmm .... (I think maybe a poll, then a pie graph is required....) perhaps I should ponder my lyrical interpretations for my next vid some more.. *runs*

Dean and pie... ::sigh::

Oh, sorry, easily distracted, you were talking statistics.

I use 'hon', myself. No real reason why, though - although it's probably more British...

And, two more days... I'm kind of excited and kind of scared also. I don't want an entire season of Sam trying to make it up to Dean for being misled by Ruby - after all, he was only trying to do what he thought was right. I want Dean and Sam to be equals, dammit! And I don't want Castiel getting in the way - I like him, but not between our boys, thank you very much.

I must keep reminding myself that it's only a TV show.

"I must keep reminding myself that it's only a TV show."
Amen Sister! My obsession with aforementioned fictional tv show is truly out of control!!!! Just a show, just a show, just...damn, no it's ...

Hello, my name is Ruby, and I've been coming to SPN Anon for four years now, and...ASH, take your bouncey butterfly things back up north.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes.... British might be the thing ....

And you know, I will admit a bit of scariness as well and for the EXACT same reason you've made here. I am seriously hoping they can move on not too long into the season... I'll give 'em 3 episodes!! Hee! And I hear ya on Cas. I don't mind the character either (and I think Misha is a hoot!) but if he muscles in on Sam's territory (being Dean that is!) I think might just take a bit of a disliking to him. *joins you looking around for angry lynch mob of fangirls*

And I know, "It's just a TV show" .... I WISH! *g* *tells bouncy butterflies it's just a TV show*... Alas. They are not listening. :)

xx

Bounce on babe! Loved your erudite review of season 4, lol, and gleefully anticipating shows return! Bring it! Woohoo!

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Thanks darlin'. The anticipation is truly wonderful. And then the thought we have 22 new episodes to look forward to! \o/ *bounces some more*

I can tell you, as a Baltimore resident, where "hon" is part of the city's identity, it's "hon" like honey.

Seriously, there is something here called the Hon Festival, celebrating all that is hon-like.

This is one topic I feel like I know. ;-)

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! A "hon" expert! :D I knew there would be someone wise in the ways of hon/hun!!

Thanks hon! :D (Ooooh - new spelling for me. :) )

[identity profile] mara-snh.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, of course, about "hon" being short for "honey." But when I leived in Glen Burnie, I heard it as I describe in a post you'll have to scroll down for a little bit. Do you agree, or am I remembering wrong?

[identity profile] mara-snh.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to live in the Baltimore (excuse me, Ballmer) area, birthplace of "hon/hun" and I can assure you that neither spelling really captures the homey pronunciation, which is more like "hawin" (but spoken in one syllable.

Bottom line? Whatever blows yer skirt up, hun.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Whatever blows yer skirt up, hun.

Yeah - I'm thinking that to. :)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I could never use hun because to me it's too associated with Attila the Hun. I've had someone argue with me that hun is short for how Pooh spells "hunny" and is thus cuter, but to me it's all about early nomadic tribes.

So I guess the answer is that it depends on the person! :D

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yes. I never thought of it like that.

It's nice to be reminded about the way Pooh writes hunny... :) Maybe it's where I'm getting it from.... :)

[identity profile] mara-snh.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Not to put oo fine a point on it, but while the abbreviation should technically be HON because it's short for the affectionate nickname HONEY, we often spell it HUN so people not in the know won't try to pronounce it HAHN.

[identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com 2009-09-10 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
I thought I might be able to change to hon, but I've been practicing and it feels funny.... so hun it will be for me! I'n glad to hear the background on Hun, Hon and Hahn though.
