Oh wow. Orphan Black. Wow. Just...wow.

If you haven't watched it put it on your "to watch" list - and put it at the top. Even if ONLY to see some of the best acting around. Of course there are many more reasons (intriguing story, tight scripting, amazing female character/s), but the performance(s) by the lead actress is just so stunning - you gotta see it (er...them) to believe it.

Only 10 eps in the first season (damnit because I wanted more!).

Ack! I need something else to watch now.

Heh, OP is a great show and it's really a crime that Tatiana Maslany wasn't nominated at the Emmys. When I was watching it, I was of course aware that it was always the same actress, but if I hadn't known it, it would have taken me a long time to figure that out, she is just that good. I mean, even Alison and Sarah, who don't differ that much in clothing/hair style/make-up etc. feel like completely different persons.

Yes yes. What gets me is that whenever I am watching one I completely forget she's the same actress playing all the other ones. And then to play one of them pretending to be another one of them...O_O. All so nuanced.

I also love that I can't pick which of them would be most like the actual actress (as in her natural accent..)

It's a travesty that she's nominated for an Emmy. She should have cleaned up.

Oh man, I almost forgot about that! It's mind-blowing. The producers of the show must have felt like they hit the jackpot when Tatiana auditioned for the part.

Oh, btw, thank you for posting that video about the artist drawing Jared's portrait on Tumblr. I was mesmerised (and very, very envious) while watching it (which happened 3 times in a row). I would make a demon deal to have that kind of artistic skill.

Isn't that drawing amazing.

I actually saw it here on LJ (and then saw it again on Tumblr). and then I thought...Oooh, I wanna gif that! I went looking for the artist and noticed that she has her own gifs of her work (she draws a whole heap of celebrities!) so I figure I better not do it.

Stunning work.

I had a lot of trouble staying engaged with the plot (maybe because I was spoiled from the get-go?), but it was worth the watch for Tatiana Maslany alone. Wow.

I'm only halfway through the season, and I keep having to watch stuff off the dvr (so there's room for more stuff. why do I do this to myself?) rather than watching OP. Which is what I really would rather be watching.

Of course, this way, the crack lasts a bit longer. When does S2 start?

Just watched the 8th episode last night! Balancing between wanting to make it last and wanting to know what happens next, omg.

Tatiana Maslany is just shockingly good. Her accents, her body language, all of it. I totally forget that they're not separate actors.

The plot borders on ridiculous cheese sometimes, but everything is so fast-paced and exciting, and the character work is so good, there's no time to worry about it. The only one I really don't like is the guy who plays Paul - he seems so flat and dull in comparison.

Such a fun show, though. Love it!

Glad you enjoy it. It's really engaging and keeps moving and a great pace without following a predictable formula. Though I found it really hard to work out where the show was set, it took me about three episodes to realize we where in Canada, I think.

I did enjoy the unravelling, so I was glad I wasn't spoiled from the beginning. I then got completely tied up in the performances. Tatiana is truly amazing.

Yeah - I kept pausing because I didn't want the episodes to run out. I have no idea when S2 starts...not soon enough that's for sure!

Oh I was exactly the same! Watched up to S7 and then tried to wait and let it last. Then watched ep 8, then 9 and then just had watch 10! 3 in a row...dammit.

The plot borders on ridiculous cheese sometimes

Yeah - it does seem a bit ridiculous at times (especially what she seems to get away with) but then it's pacey enough to let that stuff wash over you.

And yeah, Paul is rather dull. I keep thinking there's more to him (or more of him?) so I'll be interested to see if they do something more interesting next season. Though I think he's primarily there as a love interest to Sarah maybe.

It's supposed to be New York City, LOL. It's sooooo not. The one crazy weird decision they made, I feel.

Come on, I was so proud of myself when I figured out it was Canada. Also, Sarah says she's back from New York when she first arrives in town (which, toghether with her accent, made me assume it's supposed be set in the UK). This article seems to imply that it's set in Canada, but they're trying to make it not too obvious, so that the US viewers feel more at home...or something....

And did you also know Jordan Gavaris, who plays Felix, isn't British either?? Blown away by the fact that both of them are putting on accents. Tatiana is amazing. I'm on Episode 7 right now, and I'm stretching it out before I watch the whole thing. I think BBC America didn't market or advertise this show well enough. Tatiana's work alone pushes the series above the sci-fi/genre stuff that's on TV right now.

I TOLD you, it's utterly confusing and weired. But they did a similar thing with Flashpoint - they really avoided showing any Toronto landmarks, and did not mention where it was set ever. But at least everybody on the show was playing a Canadian, whereas in Orphan Black you've got British and Irish and Americans and Germans and Russians swarming around. *headache*

Oh wow! I totally assumed they were British. I love this interview - love hearing about actors and their craft. I looked at Tatiana's bio and she's done a lot of stuff. (not surprising I suppose).

Thanks for this. :)

I must admit I had no idea. I knew it was a UK/US/Canadian production so being filmed there makes sense. I think you're right about it being deliberately ambiguous.

Which really makes you wonder where that rumour comes from that all Canadian's are so uber-polite and conflict avoidant. ;)
