Date: 2013-10-06 02:10 pm (UTC)I tend to rarely involve myself in such discussions because I tend to want to discuss them within a different parameter to most. Most of the time when it comes up people are discussing in terms of "Oh it will definitely become canon don't you see the build up the writers are doing" (the pro bi Dean fans and Destiel shippers for the most part) or "Dean is a straight man, it will never be canon he is bi-sexual and this discussion is pointless" (Those anti-Destiel or bi-sexual Dean in general).
Whereas I am happy to state that the show won't make bi-sexual Dean canon and at most make it a sub-textual thing some viewers will pick up on (their 'nods' to the audience to use the words of Misha and Jim Michaels). What I would prefer to discuss instead is how feasible an interpretation is it to consider Dean bi-sexual and while acknowledging it won't actually happen, *if* they were going to go there how well it would fit with what we already know about the character of Dean. In my case while I don't read Sam as anything but 100% hetero-sexual I do think we've been given enough hints over the years it would not be a ridiculous direction to take Dean in.
Also I don't think one has to necessarily be a Destiel fan to see the potential for bi-sexual Dean. In fact throughout the discussion I made a point of discussing how I see the potential in Dean through his general behaviour (i.e. his tendency to surpress particularly in earlier seasons parts of him that aren't conform to the 'manly' image he wishes to convey) and examples of scenes throughout the show which could be read that way without a particular focus on Destiel, Wincest or any other particular ship :).
