THE GOOD STUFF!
Sep. 7th, 2014 08:51 amFinally caught up on the gag reel and the HILARIOUS (I mean, extremely serious) behind the scenes doco. That has totally made my day. Misha's humour is spot on (and clever!). Grade A crack! The cast and crew are such great sports.
I know they've been posted everywhere, but here they are again incase you haven't seen them. No doubt there will be gifs ALL OVER tumblr! SO SO gifable!
BEST!
Haha - just found out that some fans thought the doco was serious. I CAN'T EVEN WITH THAT!

Date: 2014-09-07 03:04 am (UTC)Although, right, I kind of love misha for writing that. And everyone for being so on board with it.
...It made my day. Seriously. Jared getting his Sam on. Perfect.

Date: 2014-09-07 08:52 am (UTC)There was a bit in the gag reel that made me laugh so hard I actually started to choke (I'll semi blame the flu). They were talking to Garth who said he was 'bitten in the process', and Jared asking if process was Tennesseean for his taint then Jensen fumbling over what and where a taint is. I almost busted a gut. I'm wondering how many people's heads that line flew over.

Date: 2014-09-07 10:52 am (UTC)And I have no idea how anyone could think it's serious. Maybe they're new to SPN and have no idea what the actual actors are like. Or something.

Date: 2014-09-07 11:04 am (UTC)Hehe - yes! That section in the gag reel was hilarious. I can't believe they were discussing that! (though nothing really surprises me with these guys!) The thing I DID have to look up was Chinese chair meant…

*hugs* great to see you back! <3

Date: 2014-09-07 02:10 pm (UTC)**still crying with laughter*
Here's the thing for me and why I think this show has survived for 10 years despite it's ups and downs - these guys are the genuine article.
This isn't just a day of everyone goofing off, this was meticulously planned and EVERYONE was in on it, everyone gave their all to make a short film sending themselves up in the most hilarious ways, ways that took time to think out and research, plan and plot and edit and it just shines with the genuine joy they have making the show.
It's even more hilarious to think anyone took any part of this seriously - although perhaps it was out of context? Phhhht... can't think of a bit of it that could be taken out of context and still be serious, but maybe I'm old, well past the days of teenage angst, and I just have that sort of devious brain, so there's that.
Even though I'm not as adoring of the show I once was, I still adore these people who take the time to put something like this together, yeah, I'm sure they had fun doing it, but like everything else, that joy when shared goes around the world and comes back a hundred fold and I hope they know how much it's meant to fandom to be able to share with them.

Date: 2014-09-07 03:13 pm (UTC)Very much so. I think it is crucial for why it has survived for so long. And as someone pointed out (somewhere) the make up lady is the same one from the S1 "Day in the Life of". My understanding is that many of the original crew are still there and it would be this cohesiveness that has also helped it maintain that genuine feel.
this was meticulously planned and EVERYONE was in on it,
This. It looks adhoc, but it's been beautifully planned - right up to the explosion. The whole thing has a story arc! AND characters. I love how Misha has picked up on all the little nuances - right down to Jared writing his own dialogue. It's wonderfully observed and not only makes a statement about everything that their set isn't, but also everything fans know the set isn't (if that's makes the slightest bit of sense). I also love how everyone embraced making fun of themselves. Jared looking in those mirrors, Jensen squealing and running holding the dog, even Carver acting like he has no control over his cast…. SO MUCH FUN!
It's even more hilarious to think anyone took any part of this seriously
My understanding is there have been a couple of reactions that were like "I hope that isn't true, Misha is treated so badly…". I haven't seen the brunt of it all but I've since heard there some wank out there (and I mean.. really?! what can't this fandom find to wank about?!). But yeah - to think for a minute it was in any way real is pretty hilarious in itself.
that joy when shared goes around the world and comes back a hundred fold and I hope they know how much it's meant to fandom to be able to share with them.
Amen! There's so much joy. And actually, having done GISHWHES this year, I've discovered that Misha is very much about joy. He's about not taking yourself too seriously and spreading smiles and love. I think this mockumentary is a great reflection of that.
I also love that the term mockumentary refers to a "mock" documentary - but in this case it works because of all the damn mocking that goes on in it. They mock themselves, the industry and even fans. It's perfect. I'll be high on this for a while I think. :))

Date: 2014-09-07 06:54 pm (UTC)The mockumentary was perfect - and I mean perfect in every way! I love how everyone joined in, how everyone was willing to laugh at themselves and just have fun with it. It says so much about what it's really like on set and I guess that's kind of the point - right?
The only thing this is that now I want more mockumenary! I feel like I could get just as excited (if not more) about it as the gag reel if we had one every dvd release (either a continuation of this universe or new ones directed/written by a fresh person).
Maybe I'm getting a little overexcited here, but I really dug that documentary!
