"Sam is tainted, selfish, the anti-hero,and Hell's black hat."
I have frankly never understood this perception of Sam. I've always seen him more of an innately good person who has had to go through so much crap that it would be hard for anyone to be as strong (and still innately good) as he is. (Frankly, as much as I am a Dean!girl, Sam is a much better person than Dean in many ways. Doesn't detract from my love of Dean, but I believe it's very true.)
I didn't even realize there *was* this perception of Sam in this way until about S4-S5. And I was bhazza? about it. Even my own daughter told me once she didn't like Sam because she thought he was selfish. (*bows parental head in shame* FYI, she doesn't really watch the show much.) I was shocked. Then I tilted my head to a weird angle and thought, huh, I guess if you squinted and tried real hard you could I guess get that perception. But really?
I still don't get it, even though I now know it's out there.
