Surprisingly, my reaction to this episode was negative. Dean harping on Lester and calling that dark, really?! Unless we are missing a big piece of the puzzle... that bugged the heck out of me. I did like Sam's reaction, mostly standing up for himself, and taking it on the chin, as you say, to keep the peace between them.
Whee! Dean said thank you to Sam! - No, no he didn't, and no matter how hard he finds it to say, every time, he still says it to others all the time. Pissed me off, 'cause, no he did not SAY it.
Then that the last conversation they were having, Dean says something like "Let's say you were right", Sam:"About what?" Dean:"Everything." Oh, my gosh, I laughed so hard I missed the "great" lines that followed. That is not Dean.
Instead of mocking Sam for getting hurt by a demon, how come we couldn't have a caring conversation, where Deans asks Sam about it, or says something fondly, like that's too bad you got hurt. Frankly, I'm not sure I see Dean caring for Sam, or vise versa, a whole lot. I miss it.
I think I'm a bit of a bitter Sam girl after this episode.
