Yes, Sam and Dean are infinitely multi-layered. From the Pilot, they've always been so much more than the sum of their parts. (I wouldn't mind seeing some Psycho-chesters, either.) :D
After reading your comment, I went back and re-watched High Plains Drifter (hadn't seen it in YEARS), and holy cow, YES. The "Stranger" is, without a doubt, a hero first-class.
