Happy New Year...
Jan. 1st, 2011 02:20 pm*posting quietly due to rather a nasty hangover*
Happy New Year to you all. I really hope each one of you have a wonderful 2011. You all deserve it. *smishes flist* Thank you for making 2010 such a positive and happy one for me.
At the party last night we had a round table meme so I thought I'd share that here:
It's called One Achievement, One Regret and One hope...
Real Life:
2010 Achievement: Having a damn good year. It's a kind of cop out achievement but looking back 2010 was such a positive and up beat year for me and I'm hoping that was due to my frame of mind. I was happy and I let myself be content with things that happened in RL.
2010 Regret: Regretting can be a negative thing to live with so instead I see it more as something I would like to have done more of. For me, I regret not keeping in touch with my family as much as I should. I live somewhat cocooned in my own little world sometimes and I didn't take the time to let my family know how much I love and appreciate them.
2011 Hope: I have made a resolution and I hope to achieve it. I want to trim up. Seriously trim up. My aim is to lose 5kg. It doesn't look like a lot but in reality it'll be damn hard. It will mean LOTS of exercise and cutting back on the carbs. The BIGGEST challenge will be the one my hubby and I have set for ourselves to kick it all off. Two months without alcohol. ACK! We both drink too much (every night) and so it will be a massive challenge for us.
We have even set bets on who will break first (as incentive). If he breaks first he gets to by a watch of his choice (long story, but he is addicted to buying watches...) and if he breaks I get to go to Wincon next year. That's the deal. As much as I want to go to Wincon, I hope neither of us break. 2 months! We can do it! 5kg! I can do it!!
Fandom:
2010 Achievement: Attending the All Hell Breaks Loose Convention in Sydney. Completely new experience for me and it took a lot for me to actually go. But I'm so glad I did.
I also like that I'm writing more. I'm not a writer by any means, but I have enjoyed writing the episode reactions and the occasional meta. I also really enjoyed the vidding chat over at
spnroundtable recently.
2010 Regret: Hmm... I could wear my heart on my sleeve and say I regret not making a (what I call) "Fifth Circle" vid. (yep - I am referring
luminosity's vid). I have this unspoken (until now it seems..) desire to make a really artistically awesome vid. That's not me whining about what I've made so far, I am mostly happy with what I've done, I just hope to achieve those kinda artistic heights one day.
2011 Hope The above always stands. I hope to get closer to that achievement. But my main hope it that I have as much fun as I did this year. I've chatted to some amazing new people this past year and have enjoyed my LJ and fandom year.
I hope to get to this year's AHBL convention again. (eta: informed that that's in 2012. So that will have to go into next year's hopes... *g*)
I hope to continue to have fun vidding (oh man, I have 5 vids I want to make yesterday. There's nothing quite like being away from your editing program to inspire ideas). So I suppose I hope to be able to play with all the ideas I have at some point during the year.
That's me and my self styled meme. *g* (back to nursing my sore head now)
*huggles* to you all and I hope all your wishes and dreams come true in 2011.

Date: 2011-01-01 07:49 am (UTC)DH and I did a month without alcohol once, and we made it through largely because neither of us would give the other the satisfaction of being the one who held out longest!
I only drink at weekends, not during the week, because I saw my father slide into alcoholism one drink at a time and I know how easy it would be for me to go there too.
No hangover for me this New Year because we celebrated with friends who don't drink, so DH and I were restrained (one bottle of wine between us, admirable I think!).

Date: 2011-01-01 09:45 am (UTC)Drinking at the end of the day seems to have become a way of life, so yeah, we need to break that habit. It will also save us a crazy amount of money.
I hope after 2 months we can return to just having a drink on the weekend.
xx

Date: 2011-01-01 11:14 am (UTC)I'll chat to you about your plans tomorrow. I am looking forward to it. My non drinking starts when we get back to Perth (so 7th Jan) - so we can have a drink tomorrow if the opportunity presents itself. :D
In fact - I feel like getting in as much as I can before the 7th. Which is a terrible way of looking at it. Food too. Life will be tough when I get home (but I am looking forward to the challenge. And trimming up!)
See you tomorrow.<33

Date: 2011-01-01 12:50 pm (UTC)What a lovely post to read - just very positive and yet not over the top ebullient :) Constructive and positive. I am now busy reflecting on such aspects.
My sister wants to join me for AHBL3 in 2012! Which is awesome...and so I have that to look forward to in 2012 (incredibly forward planning - for me especially)
My hope for 2011 is also to trim up - this is my 37th year and it really is time I got this sorted. I'm just glad I have our show to help me stay on that treadmill!
Lots of good things and lots of sad things happened in 2010 for me so I'm a little bit ambivalent about the year as a whole.I am hoping 2011 will be even better. And I am totally wishing you the same! Have a good one!

Date: 2011-01-01 10:57 pm (UTC)And yay! Your sister too? That's great. Hee, I didn't realise it's NEXT year - plenty of time to plan. (Man, I hope the boys come..)
And yep - time to take the trimming up seriously for me. I've been seeing the Kgs slowly add on and I need to put a stop to them before I get too down about it.
I hope 2011 will be wonderful for you sweetie. I'm sure it will be,
*hugs*

I had no idea this might even be on the table BE STRONG!! MAKE THIS HAPPEN!! \o/

Date: 2011-01-01 02:27 pm (UTC)OF COURSE YOU CAN DO IT!
I have every faith in you, but if you need help then, change a few more of your habits too, if you usually have a drink after dinner, then put dog on a lead/round up family and go out for even 10 minutes, if you usually spend XX amount on alcohol, then every week or whenever you usually buy, put that XX amount into a savings tin and watch it grow.
**hugs**
It's only 2 months not forever!

Date: 2011-01-01 11:04 pm (UTC)Yes - habit is the thing. I usually like a drink when I'm vidding, but I can stop that because I don't always. The hardest time will be after work on a Friday. That's the one I enjoy the most.
I gave up smoking, so I am hoping I can approach this in much the same way. :)
Thanks honey. (And we shall indeed be putting the money aside. That's about $130 a week!! /o\)
