Love the choices, went with third, first doesn't work for me, because they would of had to have been there for Sam and Dean to have jumped into them at that point, if they had swapped then the ruse to get Virgil to follow Sam and Dean wouldn't have worked, he would have attacked J2 in the real SPN world. 4 is fine, I could live with it and I didn't click 5 as I haven't a clue where they could have gone. So, I vote #3, like Changing Channels, only way this works for me is in a wholly angel constructed fantasy - makes me feel happier about dealing with the whole thing.
I voted #3 because it makes the most sense, but I am desperate for someone to write #2 without Virgil immediately killing Jared and Jensen (because that would be a really short, really bad fic).
I tried to think of all the possibilities. :) I like the idea that they don't exist. I mean, out of all the possibilities that one seems like it...But damn! That's a lot of planning on the angels part.. though they did think of all the things that the boys might want in other universe. Except the brother and talking parts...
Yes yes!! I want FIC! I think there is awesome potential here for the Js to be transported into Sam and Dean's world. I mean - imagine the spin out. Them actually living in the world of their characters. Getting around how they don't get killed immediately is tricky though...
If they love us (and I think by now you can't deny they do) the J's were probably in Sam&Dean's 'verse, thinking they were being pranked/having a bad trip and getting their groove back together while learning about the supernatural and having adventures. AND NO ONE WILL CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.
Went with number 3 being as it's what I decided myself having read other peoples' comments about 'where were Jared and Jensen?' I assumed it was a world created by Balthazar (like Zachariah created one) cos come on - if he had his way I'm sure Castiel would be all whiney and wimpish and OTT lol. Plus a world without magic would mean if an angel did follow, they weren't gonna be able to do all that much (unless they happen by a gun store)lol.
I quite enjoyed the ep, though def not one of my faves, I'm more a MotW kind of gal rather than follwoing the long arcs these days. Same with things like X files - I like the stand alone, can watch any time eps :)
Although I think no 3 is a good possibility, when I was watching... I immediately thought of the TV show Quantum Leap. In that, the 'other' person was sent to a holding station in the research lab for the duration of the exchange and then returned when it was done.
So I could see the AU Jared and Jensen being sent to..maybe Heaven or some kind of limbo (Balthazar being an angel an' all)..while this was all happening.
I'm going #2 because the plot bunny entered my head as soon as I watched the show. Unfortunately it's on a long list of plot bunnies, but I so want to write this. I'm excited, because it would be the first fic in which I could actually have the boys saying the word fuck, cuz in my fics I stick with show language, cuz it's fun to try & not cuss when it's so imbedded in my vernacular.
I voted #2 because that was the closest one to my interpretation. I think they were dimension displaced by Sam and Dean swapping into their universe and ended up in a historical AU or some other J2 AU where they could work out their differences (the "not talking to each other" fallout after their "French Mistake").
I'm glad I am not the only one who thought about this. I was also wondering if Misha and Kripke are still dead once Sam and Dean went back to their world. I guess I watch too much Doctor Who:)
It was so ridiculous it had to have been a fabrication, , it wasn't the SPN verse and it certainly wasn't here. So to be totally silly for just a couple of minutes, THOSE Jared and Jensen? The one's that weren't talking and earned a bazillion bucks, lived in huge mansions and kept alpacas in the back yard? Well for one I wouldn't want those couple of pricksidiots buggering up MY SPN world, but maybe they did swap and so maybe, in my head, Bobby came home with teh whiskey, obviously knew they weren't Dean and Sam and shot the pair of them?
#3 is probably the most likely answer, but I'd rather imagine a world where the real J2 really do exist (only it's an AU!J2 obviously, because the really real J2 are still on speaking terms, etcetc.) Mostly because I really want to read that fic.
I said #2 just because I like the idea of fake!J2 wandering around Bobby's house all confused and wondering how the set turned so huge and termite-y, perhaps running into Bobby and demanding to speak to Kripke...
I believe that this "universe" was just like Dark Side of the Moon or WIAWSNB. It was a construction built specifically for Sam and Dean. While I'm thinking about it (this is the first LJ entry about Friday's ep that I'm actually reading), I don't think that the "universe" was our universe either, and that's why I was able to fully enjoy what happened to them--among other things.
De-lurking - For me I can believe anything a fic writer writes if its written well. Overall I loved it, mainly because the episode made one of my favorite tropes canon. I'm guilty with high hopes it'll generate a lot of fic =)
I read some of your other post on the episode- one thing struck me how you were bothered & (apparently a lot of others were as well, that Jared & Jensen weren't talking). For me was the clear sign it wasn't our universe, but also mirrored and showcased a main thread throughout the series- that the Winchesters have a difficult time talking to each other. Each season one of them doesn't tell the other what's going on until its almost too late - part of the fun for us - to write fix it fic. So J2 not talking having problems for me makes perfect sense - meaning people need to write how they make up & fix it when they were missing.
AU!Jensen and AU!Jared can't come to the phone right now. I currently have them trussed up nicely in my basement. Gotta go! Busy! Things to see, people to do, you know the rest! ;P
But damn! That's a lot of planning on the angels part..
See, this is very handy, now we can blame it all on the angels for not creating a more realisitc AU where Mischa would fight back and die all manly and heroically while twittering....
I've clicked #3, but given the episode title and the fact that they haven't spoken SINCE THAT HAPPENED and Jensen hasn't visited Jared, I'm guessing that their true feeling came crushing through and they absconded to a remote, tropical island to have lots of steamy make up sex and to swear to each other that it was no FRENCH MISTAKE, it was ment to be. *vigorous nod*
one thing struck me how you were bothered & (apparently a lot of others were as well, that Jared & Jensen weren't talking).
I thought the clear implication was that they hadn't been talking (and Jensen hadn't visited Jared's house) because they both were embarrased about their French Mistake - straight men having a one-off homosexual encouter...I actually thought that was a very funny & clever way of bring the topic up in away that no casual watcher or network official would notice.
Embarrassed to say I didn't catch that - wasn't familiar with the expression. From your comment I looked up. Oh well, now I really want to read the fic that explores it detail =)
Wow - can I just say - I didn't think of that. Though I made a flippant comment to missyjack that maybe they had a lovers quarrel and didn't turn up because of that.
So. Wow....
*sinks in*
I kinda like that because this is SO VERY AU they can actually (safely) suggest that the boys have had sex. Man....that's totally wild (and kinda cool..).
*head scratch* why hasn't fandom gone kinda balistic over this?! Or maybe they have and I've (as usual) had my head in the sand. I certainly did over the title.
Can not WAIT for the fic to come out of this. J2 is now canon. :)
Oh and yes - that most definitely explains why "castiel" was so whiney... I love that!! Hadn't considered that either. I have to say I am so thoroughly enjoying everyone take on this episodes.
It wasn't exactly my cup of tea - but I've enjoyed the chats about it. :)
Oh so...the angels sent the "real" J2s somewhere else while they inserted Sam and Dean into their universe. Cool. I wonder where they sent them..? (only fic will tell us no doubt!). I really like this idea. :)
It SO has to be written. This episode has probably left more plot bunnies around than any other. The possibilities are endless...so many rules can now be broken. And the Js are now actual canon.. so yeah. Very exiciting. :)
Yes. I think there are so many possibilities here. (and I have just found out what a French Mistake is... *face palm* so then the Js enter this Sam and Dean world all sorts of things can happen..;) )
Hee yes...Though if they went directly into Sam and Dean's world they would be in some sort of danger no doubt. So maybe they just went into another universe no necessarily Sam and Dean's? That would be cool. In a place where they could work out their differences and discover if it was a mistake at all. :)
Hee... not so clear I would have said. Though *face palm* once one knows what a french mistake is it suddenly becomes VERY clear...
And I agree. Extremely clever (and awesome!) way to bring the topic up. I am surprised it got past the network officials though. Or even Jared and Jensen. Though I suppose it would have provided a good laugh. I'm sure they know about all the J2 fanfic out there.
Maybe this episode really was a "love letter to fandom" as tptb have said. I couldn't see it myself... but in this light I can now.. :) (well, to fans of J2 maybe..)
Hmmm...see, the only way I can get around the idea that Misha and Kripke aren't actually dead is if the universe basically disappears once the boys go home. No of it was real.
OR
It's another world and in that world the show Supernatural has just had it's final episode. Maybe. well, one without an angel called Castiel anyway.. :)
Yeah - #3 seems to be the winner - though I definitely prefer the other idea. Someone above mentioned that they could be anywhere as the angels put them somewhere else to get them out of the way. Which means the fic possibilities are HUGE! I most definitely want to read something...
especially after..*doh* I know what a french mistake means...
I wish I had made the realisation that this was not "our" universe when I was watching. Instead I kept thinking.. but they are getting it wrong (yep.. I'm so slow on the uptake...). Knowing that the angels have created this universe make it so much funnier in hindsight. Especially in light of Misha's whiney character. That would be the way an angel would make "Castiel". Clever.
Yes, I thought they were looking for a way to acknowledge that J2 is out there without wanting to (or being aloud to, for that matter) to actually 'go there'. And I thought they did that in a very neat way. You can totally watch the show and enjoy it tremendously without catching that bit. And for the network, I don't think they were told and I can't see how they would have noticed. Even if they were familiar with the term, if you don't know about J2 it doesn't really say much.
I can't answer your poll becauce from the way I've understood the episode, Dean adn Sam were Jensen and Jared in the AU. They had not taken the place of anybody, they were those two actors who didn't even speak to each other. So Jared and jensen were nowhere, they were in their AU.
I hope I'm mamking sense, but this interpretation fits with the running gag about the talking/not talking and most importantly with the fact that Sam says in the end that they are *brothers* in their universe.
I think that's probably what I meant by "they don't exist"... in that Sam and Dean become Jared and Jensen in the alter'verse.
Though it might be different because my sense is that everything around them as been designed by the angels for Sam and Dean to exist in. I particularly like that Balty is responsible for making "castiel" whiney.
I don't see that there ever was a Jared and Jensen... only what the angels have made the characters around them....um... see Sam and Dean as JAred and Jensen...
In a way all possible explanations make sense, depending on your point of view of preference. So I ended up picking Nr. 4, otherwise I might just end up frying my brain over thinking about it. ;)
Even though, I like what quirky_thoughts said. Gives me all sorts of funny ideas where the JJs might have ended up. Maybe there were still there, shrunk to the size of an ant or so.
Dang, I DIDN'T want to start thinking about it. :P
