I have come across the most heart thudding piece of con footage and would LOVE LOVE it to be made into a .gif. I keep replaying this section so I figure if it's a gif I can just sit back and stare at it all day. Plus... I can share it with others so they can do that same. *BG*

So..um... anyone got a wee bit of time to maybe do that? I did teach myself how to make .gifs a while back but now I've forgotten. /o\

So LJ is still a bit screwy eh? *sigh* Just when I (finally!) have a "long entry with pictures" to post. Oh well. I shall have to wait. (It's a bit concerning though isn't it? I hope this isn't something we just have to get used to *extra sigh*).

Also... cat update. We took the cat back to the vet and it was confirmed he has a fractured pelvis. We were told to keep him calm and give him lots of rest (about a week). He was out of it for a few hours and when he can to he ate a little bit of food ran away! He's been gone for 2 days now and just have NO IDEA why he ran or where he is. I just. Makes no sense. :((

When cats are sick or wounded, they want to go off and hide-- they're predators used a world where the weak are killed first. You really should not be letting him have access to the outside. :(

Okay, I went looking for a website that can explain it better than I can. The good news is that your cat is probably nearby. The bad news is that he's not gonna come when you call him.

INJURED – The behavior of an injured or sick (or displaced, panicked) cat is that they will hide in silence. We have called this "The Silence Factor" and this behavior KILLS CATS EVERY DAY! Hiding in silence is a protective mechanism that cats use to protect themselves from predators. What this means is that before you print up lost cat posters or drive down to your shelter to look for your lost cat, SEARCH under and in every conceivable hiding place on your own property and on your neighbor's property! It is quite possible that your cat is injured and in need of medical attention and you will need to use a flashlight and crawl under your house in order to save his life!

Okay, that was a bit "scare-tacticy" but you can pull the relevant info out to get the idea. At the very least maybe you can leave some food out by your door at night and hope your kitty is able to come and eat some, if you aren't able to recapture him and keep him indoors.

Thank you. It is scary but at least it makes sense. We just couldn't figure out why he would go out into the rain when he had a safe, warm and comfortable environment to live in.

We have been looking everywhere but no luck so far. We are sure he is close by as he can't really move. I fear he won't be able to get back now even if he wants to.

Thanks again. At least it helps put it in focus. Sad though because I am sure he is in trouble.

I hope you can find him. The website said that they like to hide under things, so if there's a deck or a shed he can get under, under your house or maybe under something in the garage?

When my cat went into heart failure, he crawled under my bed to the very far back corner. So somewhere small, dark and tight.

I would try and not worry too much, sweetie (I know, that's hard).

At home (we live in a farm house) we always have a few house cats, and they do the same thing, and normally turn out fine. When they are injured or hurt, (or having babies) they just disappear and wait til they get better. Sometimes they are gone for a few weeks in a row, and come back very thin & scrawney looking, but okay. Like stormcloude said, it's the cat's instinct to be left alone at times like this, so all the feeding and stroking and caring we humans tend to do just goes against their nature and makes them uncomfortable. Luckily, she's already been to the vet, who's confirmed that she doesn't need any treatment, just some rest.

If you do find her, I would suggest to find a place that's really quiete, cool and feels outdoorsy, the type of place a cat would choose, (e.g. in the garage, under some shelves), put some water and food there, and leave her as much as possible alone.

*hugs* thank you sweetie. I've been quite down about it tonight because he's still not home. Maybe it will take more than a few days.

I didn't have a clue about any of this stuff. Even though we've had cats for years I've never known them to leave like this. And yeah... we were totally guilty of lots of petting and I don't think the visit to the vets made him too happy either.

If he comes back we will have a new plan in place.

Ah yes. He might have felt exposed inside. Though we did have a nice quiet room for him. But yeah... I know cats take themselves off (I thought it was when they knew they were dying).

We did have the flap shut for a while but we have other animals that use it so we opened it for them. He was unable to move (well, so we thought) and we just didn't think he would bolt. :(

Hopefully he will come back.

I've tried the gif generators but they images always seen longer that for the amount of frames they will allow. I also made one in photoshop but I have no idea what I did. It was a lengthy process.

Cats are known to act strange when in pain or fear. They do live in a different concept of reality than we do. But that he managed to run away when he couldn't walk really is unlucky indeed.
I guess all you can do is keep your eyes and ears open, and one other suggestion: When you go to sleep think of finding him, maybe in your dreams or on waking you have a sudden idea where you could look for him. Sometimes that works.

Yes. I am just beginning to really understand that. We just couldn't understand why he would go out into the cold and rain when he was so hurt. But reading the posts above I have a better understanding.

We have looked everywhere we can think of... he's hidden himself very well. But I will try your idea tonight.

If he can move enough to get away, then hopefully he's mobile enough to get back, probably not gone far, but he's obviously feeling vulnerable, if you have other pets, especially other cats this behaviour, as others have pointed out is quite normal. Still not good though as shock can kill - however, a broken pelvis is damned painful, so most likely he's resting up somewhere. Only advice I can give you is to get a largish dog crate and when he does turn up? Cage the little bugger, plenty of room in one of those for food, bed and a small litter box - he'll most likely yowl for a while, but they do get used to it and it will keep him confined and once he realises that the cage is a "safe" harbour then you can leave doors and other pets loose and he'll get to understand. Really hope you find him honey, it's so worrying when they go missing.

Yes. I have to assume he's resting up and will come back when he feels he can face it. I take it they can go a while without food..no idea. I like the idea of a large cage. We'll have to do something if (when..) he returns.

And yay kj_svala! I have sent her the footage. I'll be interested to see if it makes a good gif. The actual moment is just dream worthy!

LJ seems better tonight. I have been tweaking the meta and it's been saving (where as before it wouldn't). And the scrolls are gone! \o/

Hee.. I had a thought that maybe it already exists somewhere. I know Tumblr is full gifs... I just haven't seen it. (I'll be curious to see how it looks as a gif too... the moment is so heart melty).

Aw, sorry to hear about the kitty. We had something similar happen to my cat when I was growing up, turned out he had kidney problems and we couldn't find him for days.

Thanks hun. Yeah. It's been 4 days now...still no sign. We have been searching everywhere. We think he can't be far because of his injury. But I'm beginning to loose hope that he will come back at all now..

Someone above said it could be weeks... so you never know..
