I have a few people to thank for helping me out on this one. As usual I need a lot of hand holding through the vidding process. One day I might be able make and post without prior feedback (though probably not because I love that part).

My uttermost thanks to zimshan for her fabulous feedback and suggestions. Her initial response made me take a really good look at this. Sometimes one word, one thought, one note cements a direction and I'm grateful for it. Thanks SO much for it all honey.

Many thanks also to secretlytodream *hugs* Of course, I'd actually like you to transplant that part of your brain that allows me to work effects the way you do, but your wonderful feedback and help will have to do! *g*. Thank you!

Vid Notes

This was inspired by two sources. One was hearing dotfic talk about how Cas fans felt about losing him. It reminded me that we often lose well loved characters in the spn'verse. In the past I have made vids to characters who have met their demise so I thought I'd make one for Cas.

The other was the radio interview with Guy Bee. He said that the folding of Castiel's coat was like the folding of the American flag for a fallen solder's funeral. I thought the folding was very poignant and wanted to use it as the anchor for Dean's memories of Castiel.

I got a little thinky when re-shaping this vid and wanted to show not only Dean's fond memories of Cas but also the moments that lead to his downfall. I suppose I think of this as Castiel's funeral - though I firmly believe he will be back in the not too distant future.

I hope this is ok. It's just a little tribute to Castiel. Feedback is always valued. <33

Oh, Cas! *cries* I didn't think I was overwhelmingly attached to Cas until I saw your vid. Now I really miss him and want him to come back somehow even more than before.

I liked how you ended the vid with his broken-up image on the TV screen--it made it feel like a final goodbye to Dean beyond wherever he went after he disappeared in 7x01. It was hopeful and heartbreaking at the same time.

Well, this comment's going to be woefully inadequate, but THANK YOU. ♥ Oh, Cas. :( This vid is sad, but also uplifting, and you shook out the whole character, looked at his multi-season struggle, his friendship with Sam and Dean, as well as when he went off the rails, and back on the rails, and it's a complex mix that reflects this character beautifully. That you captured the good things as well as the ways he screwed up but that ultimately his story was driven by friendship-love-trying to do the right thing. The editing and the build of it and the music being JUST SO, wow. And The way you used the folding of the coat and kept returning to that.

It feels hopeful too--that you had Cas communicating to Dean on the TV screen at the end, it feels like your wink-nudge hey, he's not GONE. Or maybe it's how he'll never be gone for Sam and Dean, and for the Castiel fans.

I needed this vid right now, given everything and I'm so moved that our conversation contributed to inspiring you to make this. *hugs*

Thank you! I have to admit to feeling like I wasn't overally attached to Cas either. But now that 's "gone" (because I'm sure he's not really...) looking back I can see how much I did enjoy his presence in the show.

The last bit is certainly open to interpretation. In the Show it was Cas reaching out to Dean the only way he knew how. So I felt it was a fitting way to end. (And maybe just a little hopeful that he is still out there somewhere..;)

This vid started as a rather simple idea and then kinda grew into trying to look a little more closely at his character. The both times I have vidded Cas I'm struck with the complexity of his character. And in many ways he should be complex because he's an angel. And meeting and knowing the Winchesters would indeed make your life...er... complex.

I suppose I really wanted to show a little bit of everything. The way he touched the boys - both physically and mentally, his soldier like fighting, his sacrifices and mistakes.

Hee! Exactly. It's open to interpretation, but my thinking was that he's not gone. He's out in the ether somewhere.... :)

I'm glad it moved you sweetie. I was hoping that it wasn't tooo depressing. I wanted a mix of hope and sorrow.

I loved that. :) It was quite poignant and well-timed. You managed to convey a lovely melancholy sweetness throughout and I loved the cuts of both blood sigils being drawn overlapping together - of all the Castiel videos I've seen, I've never seen that done before so kudos on the originality! :D

The scene transition at 2:29 is all kinds of achy. Poor faithful, yet misguided Cas. I think the emotion is spot on, and I loved the ending; the parallels throughout as well.

I'm in this weird limbo land where I don't think I'm missing him yet because, like you, I firmly believe he'll be back.

Your "just a little tribute" is so heartbreakingly beautiful! It amazes me how well you've captured him in both your Cas-vids, since you never used to care all that much for this character.
For this vid it was worth having Cas die (for a little bit). But now I WANT HIM BACK!!!

Thank you so much hun! I haven't actually watched many Cas vids so I had no idea what has been done or not. I was struck how similar those scene were - but also how different. Cas risking himself to save Dean and then Dean basically condemning Cas to his fate.

The quote was something I really wanted to use from the beginning of making this. I love how broken up Dean was and the way he grips the coat.

This was a last minute addition. I had another clip in there initially (which I loved) but then thought it would be better to show the remorse of Cas. The acknowledgement of what he had done. It was such a sad moment in the episode.

He has to be back. It would seem a shame to have let him go like that without a chance for redemption. I am hoping he'll have something to do with them killing the big bad - but... who knows.

It's funny that I keep saying that I've never felt connected to Cas and yet I've made a couple of vids of him now. Each time I feel like I discover a bit more. I choked myself up a couple of times making this. It just seems such a sad way to go.
