maenad has written the most incredible meta on Supernatural and the Soul. It's wonderfully detailed and provides some plausible and interesting insights into the way the soul is used in Supernatural. It's one of those pieces where you need to set aside some time and absorb the thoughts. But do! It's well worth the time. ;)
Fic:
runedgirl recently wrote a piece addressing some of those S8 spoilers. Resurrection It's a fix it for spoilers. :) It's absolutely wonderful and makes sense of everything that has come out in the spoilers. Go read if you are feeling in any way worried. Even if you're not it's a fab read. (Wincest)

Have you discovered
badbastion yet? She draws all those things you imagine when you read porn. ;D Friggin' hot! Here's her latest - Look at yourself Sammy (totally NSFW!)
Vid:
I know you have ALL seen the gag reel, but here's a link just in case. It's full of J2 love and I adore it but... why so short? There has to be hours of outtakes. Only 6 mins? Boo. I remember hearing an interview by Guy Bee saying that during Hello Cruel World there was enough gag reel material to run for ages. *grabby hands* I want it!! Anyway...the Js love, respect and trust each other SO much... (no tin hat required!).
Overview:
missyjack has written a great summing up of the show that could. Did! It made me a little teary and a little proud. It's a lovely reflection.
Fandom stuff:
This is an interesting article I snagged from a link provided by
yourlibrarian. It's something that I've been thinking about a lot lately. The various fandom platforms and the (perhaps) decline of LiveJournal.
It stresses me greatly that a forum like LJ might be in decline. I mean, I know it is, but what else or where else provides a platform like this one? Tumblr seems to be the fandom sweetheart at the moment but it just doesn't fulfill those connecting with "real" people needs that I have. I see pretty pics and I think WOW and I "like", but it just doesn't seem enough. I want to say that to the actual creator but figuring who that is seems to be a trial. I get that they receive the stats on who has liked and reblogged but, idk, seems impersonal. Also, reblogging just means that everyone who keeps seeing the same stuff over and over. Then there's all the pics you really don't want to keep seeing! Argh...nothing makes me feel my age more that not understanding something...
I will say that I didn't get twitter for ages either. But I do now, so maybe it's just a matter of spending some time there. Or not. ;)
Wow...that turned into a rant. Ooops.

We'll see....;DDD

Date: 2012-09-14 01:05 pm (UTC)I agree with you about Tumblr - its a very different form of interacting than here, but I also think like any platform, you need to get into the community to make connections. I think its a bit harder on Tumblr, because there isnt the infrastructure, like newsletters, or communities, where a newbie can start.
Then again, you could say the same for Twitter and I have made good connections with people there.
I think fans will continue to use multiple platforms for now, until the one tru site come along (if it does!)

Date: 2012-09-15 12:47 am (UTC)I have wondered about that - whether a site, purely for fandom, would ever exist. I'm not sure LJ was (initially) designed as a fandom platform. I don't know that for sure - but I rather think fans discovered that it could be used like that.
Twitter I (finally) figure out. When I realised it's just eavesdropping on other people's text messages it made more sense to me. I rather like it. I think the spoilers will be an issue once the show starts so I'll have to be careful around there.
I suspect Tumblr would make more sense if I actually made some sort of effort there. I scan for the pretty but that's about it. Though it's made me want to try and create some of that pretty myself...so maybe one day I'll give gifs ago. I like the way they can create instant meta, or connections etc.

Date: 2012-09-14 01:22 pm (UTC)You can figure out who did what by clicking on the 'source' links. Where they are depends on the layout, though, alas, but on the dash they are always easily available. Most of the time you get there by clicking on the image if you surf blogs.
And getting to see the same things over and over is a matter of making a dash that suits you - in general the dash requires more maintenance than lj f-list because interests of bloggers tend to be more fleeting. And for blocking content there is tumblr savior ;D

Date: 2012-09-15 12:51 am (UTC)I haven't played around nearly enough over there. TBH each time I take a look I seem to lose interest fairly quickly. Not sure why because...wow...so much pretty stuff to look at. People are SO talented. I sometimes wish there was a LJ equivalent to seeing all that pretty, but I know LJ isn't as easy to use as Tumblr (in terms of putting up content etc,)

Date: 2012-09-15 09:17 am (UTC)LOL yeah for putting up content lj is kind of the worst, I often feel like I spend half an hour making a post here (and so often lj is having SOME kind of issue), as opposed to... ten seconds.

Date: 2012-09-15 12:54 am (UTC)I agree about finding the one that suits them. I remember a young girl asking me a while ago about having a Tumblr and I told her I only have LJ. She said she looked into LJ but it just looked too hard to use. I agree with her there - LJ is pretty daunting when you first come across it. Tumblr seems much more user friendly. (until you get to know LJ of course. I think I've FINALLY worked it out...;D)

Date: 2012-09-14 02:50 pm (UTC)Over the summer, I spent less and less time here, tried very, very hard with Twitter, following things about the show and fandom without actually Tweeting, but again, it's not for me, actually I ended up even more frustrated with things than I was at the end of last season if that's possible, so nope - Twitter isn't for me either...
Thanks for the links, will check out that meta.

Date: 2012-09-15 01:01 am (UTC)*nods* to all that! I definitely feel this is a comfortable place to be. LJ is like the small city or country town and Tumblr is the big, noisy city full of the hustle and bustle. Hee.. Twitter. Well, that's like going into an aviary and trying to figure out which bird to tune into. I've grown rather fond of it. I love all the little snap shots of what people are doing and what's going on. It's more instantaneous than LJ. But rather spoilery, so I'll have to beg off once the show starts.
The meta is amazing. It's dense and takes time to read, but there's a lot to absorb and it makes so much sense of stuff in the show that I struggled to make sense of.
*hugs*

Date: 2012-09-14 04:24 pm (UTC)Will check out the soul-meta too - very interesting.
The whole thing about LJ makes me sad. I got here kind of late, it was already on the decline. And I know there are a lot of technical issues, but I love the format. It is so conducive to conversation! Tumblr always feels to me like a roomful of people delivering monologues. Some of them are really great, and I love it, but how do you have an actual discussion? I just don't know.

Oh yes. That's a good why of putting it. There's some amazing work going on over there. The gifs are often thought provoking and wonderfully done. (I'm greedy because I want all over here!)

Date: 2012-09-14 04:38 pm (UTC)Tumblr, meh it's great if you're a shipper because that's who dominates tumblr but finding people who can write excellent meta and talk/discuss show with you without throwing a temper tantrum, insulting you or flipping out is VERY hard I have found only a few people who can talk to me like an adult without bias on the show.
no subject
Date: 2012-09-15 12:05 pm (UTC)Tumblr would be a tricky place to post meta I reckon, but I suspect it gets more people reading there than on LJ - not sure if that's a correct assumption but sometimes when I see the about of "likes" or reblogs a post gets it amazes me.
and people getting uppity about having differing opinions would really bother me. I love the exchange of ideas without the tantrum throwing.

Date: 2012-09-15 12:07 pm (UTC)I think if I spent a lot of time over there I'd get used to it, but I haven't really found it much of a draw to keep me there long enough to work it all out.
One day maybe...;)

Date: 2012-09-15 01:22 am (UTC)As for Tumblr... I got an account during summer of last year, and at first I really liked it for all the artwork and pretty pictures. Then I got more into the fandom side of things and I had to get out. People don't cut spoilers over there, and there tends to be a lot of drama. It's almost like the increased anonymity/distance causes people to be nastier about things and to each other. IDK, it may just be the things I saw, or a particular period of time, but I decided pretty quickly that I didn't enjoy the experience there.

Date: 2012-09-16 05:33 am (UTC)I suppose in the end we'll get those die hard LJ peeps who will cling on for dear life (probably me!). I think as long as it offers something different to the others then LJ (or journal forms) will always have a place. Until maybe a specifically designed fandom sire comes along maybe. But even then I don't suppose it will suit everyone.
The spoiler issue is big on the likes of Tumblr and even twitter. It's my main reason for staying away during the season. I become quite the spoiler phobe once it all gets started.
And yeah, I've heard about some of the drama it creates.../o\ people can get pretty nasty. Not fun at all.

Date: 2012-09-15 03:07 am (UTC)Ohgod, I get so upset when I think about things like the 'decline' of LJ...not sure I can even read that meta. This space is so different from any of the others, and has been so important to me. I feel literally sick thinking about losing it. *sobs*
I am staying!!

Date: 2012-09-27 10:58 am (UTC)And I agree... I hate the idea of LJ decline. I can't see it going away until there's a better replacement. So far nothing comes close...;)
I am staying too! <3

Date: 2012-09-15 09:57 pm (UTC)Twitter, I am still afraid of. Too many sites, and I get way overwhelmed. Tumblr, I just post my art if I don't already see it posted (in which case I just reblog it, lol) and I don't do much else other than look at the pretty pictures and feel the feels, because that's what you do on tumblr, lol. I've laways liked LJ best as a platform for interacting with people, not just usernames. I like ty!gallery too, though lot of the art is not my thing, because it's a pretty good social site too, just different that LJ (and it seems like it's a lot more welcoming of lots of penis, haha.)

Date: 2012-09-27 11:05 am (UTC)Twitter I've finally figured (in terms of how it works). I'm not on it very much but it's great for popping random thoughts onto. Tumblr requires a bit of time I think. I made one, thinking I'd post my vids on there but I prefer LJ and YT for that. I think if I was around Tumblr more it would be better, but I just don't seem to have the time. Lots of pretty though!
I've never heard of ty!gallery. Hee... penis acceptance is certainly a thing to consider with your amazing art...;D

Date: 2012-09-27 11:17 am (UTC)Yeah, tumblr is a big time stealer. I have to try to stay away from it when I'm working on something, otherwise oops! there goes two hours, and now it's time for lunch!
and lol, that day must have been typo day for me. y!gallery is what I meant. It's very loosely like deviant art, only with a much smaller userbase, an 18+ requirement, and meant for only m/m (or single m) art/fics. Part of what I like about y!gal is that people are NOT afraid to leave REALLY GRAPHIC comments, lol, and I love it when people embrace what turns them on. But I'm finding SPN fandom is kinda like that, anyway. My past fandoms must have been very restrained, lol.
edit: there i go with the typos again!

Date: 2012-09-27 12:26 pm (UTC)And now I have a chance to fangirl all over you...how lucky are we to have you giving us such amazing erotic art?! We are blessed with amazing artists in the fandom, but I don't think we've had someone (on LJ anyway) giving us such amazing, full on, yummy porn! So great! <3

Date: 2012-09-19 12:53 am (UTC)And I'll confess that I have no comprehension of Tumblr at this point, and only a surface clue about Twitter. I like the LJ/DW format, what can I say? Actually, I was complaining that the discussion board program we have to use for school could learn a thing or five from LJ, since it's stupid beyond belief.
no subject
Date: 2012-09-19 07:12 am (UTC)The discussion board we have for a school project I am working on could learn a thing or two also. SO hared to nagivate around. You have to click on about 5 things before you get to the area you want. I know LJ takes a bit of getting used to though. Twitter can be fun. It's just like eavesdropping on other peoples text messages. Tumblr has lots of pretty but I find it very impersonal.
