I've been on a bit of an emotional roller coaster over the last few days re the show. Thanks to lots of chatting and fab insights from YOU LOT I'm in a much better frame of mind. (yay)

Seems that making things helps. I have a wee crack vid on the way (which might get me into a bit of trouble but...heh...it's all in the spirit of fun).

It would seem that taking my bat and ball and going home is just not an option (addiction does that to you). So, instead of grumble grumble I've done a mini-picspam on 8.09. The ep was beautifully shot and I'm curious about a couple of shot choices.

*guh* this series of shots have to some of my favs ever - especially that top one. (and look galwithglasses -another bridge! If I wanted to meta!wank I'd say we're looking at the gapping chasm between the brothers by the end of this episode...;D) I also adore the one through the back window of the Impala, with Dean eyes reflected as he looks at Sam. I'm sure there's layers of meaning here in that shot choice. I also think this starts and interesting trend in the way some of this episode is filmed. To me, it's almost an outsider POV. I wouldn't have thought anything of it only it's repeated very strongly couple of times later in the episode.

It's curious that this scene has moments when it looks as though someone is watching Sam and Amelia. I assumed it was Don. And it may well be. (It also makes me think that Don is the mystery person we see in episode one, spying on the house). But - the pov changes. If it's a person then he suddenly moves. It may just be a directorial decision to be "stylish" but I think it's there to set up a sense of them being watched - from all sides. I am reluctant to speculate (because I think that's led to a lot of my disappointment in this ep) but it leads me to suspect some thing, rather than some one watching.

The fact that this scene is also shot as though someone is watching (bushes obscuring the characters) makes me think that there's a link between the scenes. Of course, it could just be the director's style - a way of reminding the viewer that they are an outside observer to the action. Either way I like it a lot. (I also like the idea of the viewer being a type of stalker. I have this ridiculous idea that Sam has been stalking Amelia - totally ludicrous, but it's been in the back of my mind). A couple of other shots I loved: Fabulous overhead shot that, once again, makes it look like something is watching. I want to say angels, but I daren't speculate too much. With an angel like Naomi around though, it is feasible that they might keeping an eye on things. As a wonderful counter to the above shot we have this shot from under the water. The blood mixing with the water is fab. So. Hat's off to Nick Copus, first time director on Supernatural. Checking his IMDB profile he's is very experienced. It definitely showed.

I love those caps! I love how each of them are framed. There has been a lot of door framing this season. I'm not sure if it's deliberate (like so many other things this season) or whether I'm just noticing it now. The way they make us detached from what we are viewing is so interesting. I'd say it's definitely a running theme in this ep.

Dean says we'll cross that bridge when we come it and here they are.

WOOT! Man - I'm thinking there's enough there to have a "crack" at that meta...;DDD

I finally sat down and slogged my way through the episode this morning. I did better with it than I thought I would. Maybe going at it piecemeal helped. It's truly a thing of beauty from a filming standpoint. I did watch some if it on mute but not too much. I wish if it were going to be such a soap, I wish I felt like Sam has half the attachment to Amelia that he had for Ruby or even Madison. There isn't even any real physical chemistry there. Say what you want about Sera, but she would have had them naked and getting it on by the second scene they had together. Not likely, really, for someone who's head is wherever Sam's might be but it might make the relationship easier to buy. (Is shallow and wants to see Sam shirtless.) I think you're right about how a lot of this has been tell, not show. Oh well, it's been filmed very nicely for not showing much. Have I mentioned that I miss Bobby? 8-)
