Thought I'd share this for those who may not have seen it. I know a few of you geek over the design of the show like I do. Thanks to growyourwings for giving me the heads up. <3 (I have a twitter, but there are days I'm not on and miss lots of good stuff...)

Jerry Wanek is the Production Designer on SPN. I think he might just be my all time hero - especially for the stunning work on The Batcave. (The Wincave? The Letters Library? The Bunker 'o Love?)

He tweeted this recently:



Isn't that great?! I'm sure he's speaking to me!! (hee...of course I don't but I am definitely one of those people he's referring to...;D)

And this is the wallpaper he's referring to (from 8.12 As Time Goes By)






Clever huh? I didn't pick the reference to time when I was watching but now I see it, it's obvious. Hour glasses is what seems to be going on here. Though maybe it's up to interpretation.

I'd love to know how they find their wallpapers.

And I'm sure that light shade has been used before...(which means I'll have to investigate of course ;D)

I love the clean simplicity of this room.

I'm not sure what I love more - the fact that the wallpapers and room dividers DO reference the episode (and it's not just us making wild speculation) or that Jerry tweeted to let us know what he's done.

I've been working on the S6 motel post today and I got a little side tracked by the wallpapers. I want to make a collection of all the ones that have flowers in them. I've made a good start but with homeofthenutty down it makes progress much slower...:(

I'm also collecting all the murals. I love the murals!!! I've found, er..5 so far.

I'm still on a high after that last ep. Well, the last three actually. It's also nice to see fans bouncing about the place. I wonder if it's enough to bring some fans back...

Interestingly enough, that wallpaper design appears on walls and dividers in sync with the appearance of one character every time: a certain supposedly-dead archangel of the lord. *ponders*

It appears at least four other times prior to this, spanning the seasons. I can't find the post I saw in tumblr that matches them all up, but in just about every instance you spot Gabriel (who just loves to fuck with the bros time-wise), that pattern has appeared in the ep somewhere - usually specifically on wallpaper or motel room/conference room deviders.

Indeed he didn't, so it might all just be an indication of general time-fuckery such as in that ep. But even in the episodes that didn't use time travel yet had Gabriel present it appeared. (Dammit, I wish I could find that post, grr.) Personally I love the little bastard and would love to see him back, but that's just me. :P

I just had to look into that this morning. The pattern appears in 5.19 (as growyourwings has posted below), but I can't for the life of me see it in the other eps. He appears in 5.08 (changing channels). The wallpaper in that is HUGE flowers (*loves*) but I can see that pattern on anything else. I'm sure it must be there if someone was able to make a post about it.

He also appeared in 2.15 and 3.11 and I couldn't see it there either. Of course, I was only scrubbing through footage so I might have missed it.

Hmm...I might check the other time travels eps and see if it appears there....

Yes, that one below is one of them. In changing channels I remember it's not on the gloriously garish wallpaper, but it is in the ep somewhere. *headdesk* I've spent a good hour or two this morning looking for the damn post and I've sent out some asks so hopefully someone has something!

I went out to Tumblr to see if I could find this post. Have had no luck. But I did find this.




Of course the hotel it that ep was also a mid-century design. So it might be more the fact that the pattern comes to mind for Wanek when thinking of 50s style wallpaper. But still. Very interesting.

(Man I would SO love it if Richard were to come back on the show, even for one ep. Hey time travel right? Anything's possible.)

My first thought when I saw the spoilers for their new home was ....*weep* no more motels. But I don't think that will happen because they will still need to travel across the country to investigate cases. I'm pretty sure we'll see more motels. ACK! I HOPE!!

Our gallery (her webspace, my caps XD) is mostly complete, save for one ep each in S1 and S2 and the whole of S4 as wel of S8 so far. The latter because I'm lazy. Ahem. XD I hope it'll help!

Oh how I love this Show and the way they love this fandom - so glad we have observant people like you who can figure this stuff out, otherwise the set dec folks wouldn't find it nearly as satisfying :)

I *love* this motel room. And I especially loved this perspective showing Henry lounging on the sofa. It's so Mad Men-esque. I'm on a mid-century modern kick right now. So this just is just <3 for me.

Sooo.....

Not to interfere with your process or anything....

Just a off-the-top-of-head suggestion/thought.

You could take a see-saw approach to your motel meta. Do the most current episode. Then do the oldest episode you've not yet done. Then do the newest episode you've not yet done. Etc. Eventually you'd get through them all, but since you are also getting to the newest ones closer to air time, you might remember.

Or.... Keep drafts-in-process for current episodes where you can jot down/draft out immediate thoughts and observations for later. I'm betting you already do this.

Never mind me. Occupational hazard, process improvement or die. lol. Seriously, it's your metas, your way. ;)

I'm actually not that far off doing S8. I've almost completed S6. By the time I've done S7, S8 should be finished and I'll be ready to start on that. I tag all my posts related to motels so each time I start a new one I check my tags and see what was said. I remember when I was watching S7 that they were all sort of cool rooms. I've kept all my pics and notes so HOPEFULLY I won't miss anything. :))

I completely missed that. That room is awesome and the light is so perfect. Maybe that's why the sands of time art is on the wall. Where do they find the wallpaper? It is spectacularly hideous. The silvery ovally spots have small leaves in them.

What cracks me up is that from the outside, this place is an absolute dump, even for Winchester standards and this room is pretty nice. I love all the geometric shapes that have been in the last couple of episodes.
