I'm preparing to post my new vid and was just wondering...

Anyone found a good streaming site other than YT and iMeem?? I thought File Front did but sometimes it gives me a streaming option and other times not (?).

And damn it if YT hasn't taken down 500 Miles and now taken the sound out of Channel Hopping. :(

Time to investigate a website. (though I wonder what the copyright issues are on that!)

Thanks if any of you have some suggestions.

OMG! I'm just uploading to a new site now! *lol* Didn't I say we were mind melded.

I decided to try out Vimeo but Megavideo also looks good.
Check out this article: http://www.thegermz.com/helpful-websites/youtube-alternatives-to-help-you-out

And these posts about Vimeo: http://mranderson71.livejournal.com/9050.html

With the current discussion at Vidding Elite: http://community.livejournal.com/vidding_elite/11731.html

I'm currently planning to go the password protected Vimeo way but if you find something better let me know!

Hee! Mind meld.... we're getting good at that!

Love all this info. I'm giving Megavideo a shot - though Vimeo is looking good too!

It's already up on YT but as usual the quality is pretty crap so I want to see what some of the other ones come up with. iMeem quality is pretty good, but those damn ads are just friggin' annoying.

I love File Front though because it doesn't delete vids. I have nearly all of mine on there now - just for back up and archiving. Sometimes it streams and other times .... I just can't figure that one out.

Looks like I need to join Vidding Elite to read that. Will do if they have interesting stuff.

Cheers darlin'!

Doh! *smacks self* I keep forgetting about that whole 'elite' thing. I hope think it's primarily for protection cause they seem pretty cool. It was started after a bunch of people got fed up of the deletions.

Anyway, it mainly talked about how Vimeo deletes videos like our fanvids and accounts of people who have them. So yeah, they are pretty strict there, which is why everyone is talking about passwords and protections.

Yeah - looks like the way to go. Fair enough too!

I'm uploading to Vimeo at the moment to see how it looks. :D

Oh yes. I forgot that one. I think I might even have an account with them. Not sure which way to turn on this one. Nothing beats the "community" at YT at the moment - but that may become a thing of the past as they are all clamping down on copyright.

Filefront is good for archiving though. They don't delete! :D

Thanks hun! :D

PS: Hope things are looking up for ya sweetie. *smish*

4shared don't delete without warning either - all my vids which I have listed at [livejournal.com profile] paper_packages are hosted on 4shared.

I checked out that site on your suggestion and it looks really cool! The only problem I have is that 30 day cut off. I know myself well enough to know that I'd go looking for my account on day 31. Do they really just gut everything or is there an easy way back? Cause again, that site really did look nice. I loved how the download link was right there for everyone!

All my vids have been uploaded there for months and months and not one has been deleted - nor have I had any reminder recently actually that a deletion period is imminent - and I just went and checked a random couple of vids to be sure and yep, they're still there! Myabe it's because i set up an account? Don't know, but it's always worked really well for me =)

I love that you can choose to either watch the vid there and then or download it - and it's so easy to use.

I gotta say gals this ain't happening for me tonight. Megavideo hates me - tells me I've uploaded then disappears when I click on it. Vimeo is ok, but small! (hee! I used to YT size now!) I'm trying 4shared 'cause that option of watch and DL sounds good - though filefront can do that too when it chooses too. *sigh* Might just have to go the usual until I work something out!

Thanks for your input ladies. *hugs*

That bizarre looking star thing in the bottom right is the full screen for vimeo. Or do you mean file size? When I tried to upload my xvid version it didn't like it, but it took the smaller divx one just fine.

Why ,oh why, does vidding have to be so complicated? *growls*

Bloody complicated!!!

I've ended up posting it with what I have - I've kinda rushed it because I'm getting the .."you've been on there too long vib".

I'll explore all this more when I have some extra time.

Thanks darling. *sigh* vidding - damn shame I love it so much!

Did they give you the chance to argue that the videos were improperly taken down? The Switching Channels one, especially, has such a range of audio sources that you should be able to make the argument that it's transformative of the audio, as well as of the visuals - and a parody, to boot. I went through this about a month ago with my Black Parade video, and argued that it was transformative - youtube never actually got back to me about it, but the audio was restored to the vid!

Understandably, some vidders think that the transformative works argument is false or mis-applied especially when there's a sole audio track, but I think there's no downside in making the argument if you think your video is transformative of both the audio and video sides.

In case you want to borrow it, the language I use is this:
The use of the copyrighted material is justified as fair use under 17
USC 107 because it is (a) trasnformative and (b) does not adversely
affect the market or potential market of the original work or
derivative works. The central purpose of this investigation [into
purpose and character of use] is to see ... whether the new work
merely "supersede[s] the objects" of the original creation, or instead
adds something new, with a further purpose or different character,
altering the first with new expression, meaning, or message; it asks,
in other words, whether and to what extent the new work is
"transformative." Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, Inc., 510 U.S. 569,
579, 114 S.Ct. 1164, 127 L.Ed.2d 500 (1994), Zomba Enterprises, Inc.;
Zomba Songs, Inc., Plaintiffs-Appellees, v. Panorama Records, Inc.,
Defendant-Appellant., 491 F.3d 574 (6th Cir. 2007)

This is wonderful, thank you.

I've never taken YT to task. I've just let it ride - but I'll give this a go - can't hurt I suppose.

I can fully understand artists rights to earn money from their music - but it seems to me that we are promoting their music and in fact I've actually bought music after listening to music made to fanvids.

Thanks again. This is very helpful.

A little update: I've put in a dispute. They've claimed copyright on the song "I'll be there for you" ... so we'll see how it goes. I'll owe you one BIG TIME if they restore it!

*hugs*
