So. For a change, I thought I'd talk about Supernatural - because, you know, I CAN'T HELP MYSELF!

I've been checking out all the spoilers because I NEEDS to know stuff!

To be honest there hasn't really been anything that earth shattering or (too!) controversial. Nothing quite like last year's..."Sam doesn't look for Dean because...you know...he finally had a chance at a normal life..." (whaaaaaa!!!)

Instead we've got...

Confirmation that the boys will be on the same page - that they'll be working together. The brothers chose each other at the end of S8 and that's where it'll be picked up. But not without serious consequences.

I gotta say I'm pretty happy about this - mostly that we won't be leaping ahead 4 months (or a year!) and we see that Sam somehow is healed and the trials (the effect they had on Sam and that the Winchesters failed to do something that would have potentially benefitted the world) meant nothing. Instead it'll not only mean something it will be driving the beginning of the season. \o/

Something that did create a bit of a stir (from what I've seen) is the reveal that Dean will be keeping a secret from Sam. It seems like it will be a pretty big secret and one that may cause issues down the track for them.

I'm not worried about this I have to say. There's always been something going on between them. I know "secrets" can be a little frustrating and surely the brothers have learned that it's not a good idea to keep them - but they usually exist because one is protecting the other in some way. Or one doesn't what the other to know their true feelings - it would mean exposing a weakness. Until we actually know what this secret is I don't think we can spend too much time complaining about it. I am so damn curious though! I hope it's awesome! (can it beat Dean having to kill Sam from S2?!)

I admit that the main reason I'm trolling spoilers is to know what they plan to do with Cas. I fluctuate between being a little bit excited about the possibilities of him being human and being terrified that I'm going to hate what they do with him.

I am working really (really!!) hard to just accept that he'll be around a lot in S9 (and probably until the end of the series) and trying to not let that get me down. I desperately want to like him and I know that so much of that will depend on what direction they'll take this season. From what I've heard I think he'll be the comic relief for a bit (discovering eating and toilets and washing etc) and that might be fun - as long as they don't drag the joke on for too long. I actually really love to see him develop into a solid 3 dimensional character - a strong, independent character who maybe starts to discover something in him that will one day make him a better angel.

No doubt the Winchesters will have a hand in helping him be human, but I hope that he doesn't end up following them around like a lost puppy. I dunno. TBH, I'm not sure exactly what I really want to see (except some more Sam and Cas moments would be kinda nice and maybe Cas discovering what it means to be love is. I really liked the Meg and Cas moments in the past so I think Cas finding earthly love would be interesting. And why do I think that Cas will reeeeaally like sex?! ;) (do we have issues with Jimmy being trapped inside Cas? If Cas has sex is that non consensual use of Jimmy's body?...*sore head*)

I read that it will be more character driven this season. That's both good and...er worrying. I really don't watch the show for major character story lines (I has enough of the soap at the beginning of last season). I like that it's a genre show and I want it to continue to be driven by MoTW stories. I still want action, mysteries and adventure (and blood splatters!), interwoven with some small (but strong!) character scenes.

That's not to say that I don't want strong character arcs (and not just from Sam and Dean) that carry through the whole season. I want something that they do in the beginning of the season to mean something by the end (compared to S8 where we had two separate halves). I wants lessons to be learned and discoveries to be made, but not at the expense of good story telling.

We'll learn more about the Men of Letters (yay!) and see some old characters return.

The return of Bobby puzzles me I have to admit. I'm not unhappy about it, but it feels like some sort of reset. A bit like...ooh, we really didn't mean (or want) to get rid of Bobby, we only did that for the emotional drama. We did that, so now let's bring him back. Seems strange so I hope they do it well.

Everybody interviewed seems pretty pumped and excited about the season - Jared particularly. He was practically jumping out of his seat wanting to give us information about what's going on with Sam. He keeps saying the fans are going to love it. This will either mean Jared knows what fans love (and I have no idea how, considering how different we all are!) or he only thinks he knows what we like seeing (not Sam as "other" pleeeasse...).

The only other thing I'm hoping for is something interesting to be happening for (or to) Dean. Perhaps something outside Cas or Sam. I'm not sure what, but just something. Something that tests Dean (and Jensen!).

Only 2 more months to wait! The fact that that seems like a long time means I still damn invested in this damn show.

Hiya!

I'm a spoilerphobe but I've peeked a wee bit to assuage any fears of a s8 repeat. And I also wanted to tell you that I just finished s8 and I'm loving it again. I don't know if that's because the first half of s8 set the bar so low the second felt great by comparison, but whatever, I'll take it! :) I'm so happy to have my show back.

So I've seen an interview with Jensen and one with Jared from Comic Con, and read your spoiler summary here, and I LIKE IT! Jared does seem genuinely happy this time, which is very encouraging. (Last fall I felt like his positive attitude was forced, which turned out to be true. I just found out he later said he felt it was very OOC for Sam to not look for Dean and that the Amelia storyline was weak and didn't fit well with Sam's character. JOIN THE CLUB, JARED!)

I'm really happy to hear the brothers will be on the same page. Jared made a really great point in the interview I saw, that the brothers didn't just choose each other over Amelia and Benny, for the first time the brothers chose each other "over the job." They didn't go through with the mission of closing the gates of hell, they didn't make the sacrifice and let death separate them this time. And I really love that, and loved the awesome emotional scene at the end of the finale, and the twist that they didn't do what they were working for all season, they went another way at the last second, deciding to save themselves, and try to save the demons too. (I will give Carver props for this.)

As for Castiel, I find him highly entertaining when it comes to fish-out-of-water comedy, so I hope they use him for comic relief. I don't think they'll make the mistake of having him tag along in the backseat of the Impala all the time. If you look at s8, they used Cas judiciously (and they actually wrote him in character all season.) He came and went, and he had his own side stories. Like you, I want them to develop his relationship with Sam--I've been saying this for ages. If he is to be part of the show and the family, they he should be fully integrated with all of the show and all of the family, and not just a stuck-on appendage jutting out of Dean's half. It made sense in s4 and even in s5 for him to be the angel on Dean's shoulder, but we're four seasons passed that now. And I'm so pissed they so cavalierly killed off Meg!!!! I loved Megstiel, it had a cool Batman/Catwoman vibe. But yeah, it would be nice if Cas had a relationship, it would really help develop him more as his own character.

As for Bobby, I'd love to have him back. It's been long enough now that I've felt everything I was going to feel about the loss of Bobby, so I don't feel like bringing him back would take away from the emotional impact of his death.

On my wishlist for s9 is taking better care of the female characters, and not treating them like they're completely unimportant and disposable. They get points for bringing back Charlie for two episodes (one of them being my favourite of the season.) But Mama Tran started off awesome, then quickly became incompetently meddlesome, then was cavalierly killed off camera. They briefly brought back Meg, but then also cavalierly killed her off without showing any reaction whatsoever to her death from Cas, who had feelings for her, or from the boys, when they had a long history with her and she had actually helped them on several occasions. They finally brought back Jody, but then within a couple minutes just discarded her like a bloody tissue on the bathroom floor. They didn't even give us a quick shot to show us she had actually survived the attempt to kill her. And I'm not even going to get into the whole Amelia thing. So I hope they bring back Jody at least, and treat her better--and if Bobby is back too, then I'd love me some Jody/Bobby!

Only 2 more months to wait! The fact that that seems like a long time means I still damn invested in this damn show.

Ha, I thought seeing as it took me so long to watch the second half of s8, that I would've escaped the long wait of Hellatus. But then I finished it a couple days ago and went Yay, that was awesome! I'm back into it and want more! Then quickly went What?! There's still so long to wait for more?!?!! Noooo!

Hi!

It's great that you're back! The finale was pretty epic I thought and really did make up for the first half of the season. I did like that Carver gave us an awesome brother moment - I do feel confident that he's aware that the strength of the show comes from their relationship (even though he tore that apart in the first half of the season).

I'm not too keen on comic relief Cas myself - though if used well I don't mind it. ;)

And yes to all the female characters. I'm really disappointed with their treatment of Mama Tran. She started out so cool. I was sad to see Meg leave but at least they gave her a good writer for the episode she left. I thought Robbie Thompson did a good job of giving her character some depth before they killed her off.

Let's hope they bring Abdadon back - same actress. I thought she was pretty awesome. And Jody..and Charlie. :)

And I know! Soooo long to wait! BOO!

Oooh, that's right, Abbadon! Yeah, she was an awesome villainess, I hope they bring her back too--in the same meatsuit, that actor did a great job. And she fits in with the new Man of Letters thing.

As for Cas, I try not to worry about him, and enjoy what I can enjoy. I have more confidence now seeing as, like you said, the second half of the season did show Carver had a better understanding of the brothers' relationship.
