Day Six: Favourite SPN Actor/Actress



I simply cannot split the boys (er..men) in this category. I have to go with Jared and Jensen because, quite frankly, they are both my favourites. That's not to say I don't LOVE and admire many many other actors in the show, it's just that these two own my heart and are basically the reason why I watch it.

I can't pick one over the other because both have qualities that make this show work. I mean, I am completely drawn to Jared's personality (and his hair...and legs...and chest...<3), but I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Jensen. Both can give varied performances - from absolutely A-MAZING to occasionally phoned-in (*ducks* don't hit me...). And I honestly do not believe one acts better than the other - or does a better job than the other. They are two parts of a whole and so it's gotta be both the Js for me. :)

They are just like Sam and Dean really, it's the sum of their parts that makes them so good. I agree 100% - they can both knock it out of the park while occasionally (which isn't as often as it might be considering they've played the same characters for 8 years!) looking like they didn't really turn up that day.

Maybe this question should have been which actor/actress (apart from the Js)...

Might have to be Mark P or Julian R...(I'm thinking more for their acting abilities). Fav personality....ack! I don't know...

My actors would be:

Best Drama Actor: Jensen Ackles (If he was on one of the big four networks he'd have won an Emmy by now)

Best Comedy Actor: Misha Collins *hides from rocks*. (While I consider Jared and Jensen absolutely amazing actors in general. I've never been a big fan of their comedy moments.)

I also want to add just because I've acknowledged Misha and Jensen and don't want to leave Jared out (<3). I think some of Jared's finest moments on the show have been when he was playing characters other than normal Sam such as Lucifer!Sam or Soulless!Sam. Not because I think he is bad at playing normal Sam (hell no), but getting to see just how different and unique his general tone and mannerisms are while playing these characters really highlights what a fantastic actor Jared is! And the acting choices he makes while playing normal Sam.

Favourite Actress: Ah I can't really decide maybe because none of the females have had the same amount of screen time as the males. So here are a few Amy Gumenick (I recently rewatched S5 and her scene with the boys when Mary finds out they are her sons makes me cry. Her acting (and the Js) was absolutely superb), Katie Cassidy (She really played the ambiguous nature of Ruby perfectly in my opinion) and of course Samantha Ferris.

I certainly agree that Jensen can knock it out of the park. I have been so impressed with a lot of his performances. I think The End is one of his best - also any scene that requires real emotion. I think Jensen's best with a strong director - someone who'll push him and get those performances out of him.

Hee..and Misha! I actually agree he does comedy well - I think his ability to dead pan is my favourite thing about the way he does comedy. But Misha himself is very funny and I think it's a good thing he's been able to bring some of that to the character of Cas.

And *nods* re Jared. I think Jared has been very fortunate in being given the opportunity to play the variety of Sam's. As much as soulless!Sam troubled me - Jared's performance of him was fantastic. I also think he's improved over the years.

Yeah - I can't pick out a fav female actress - I think so many performances were excellent. I agree about Amy. I really love Katie (particularly in Arrow) and she did deliver an interesting performance for Ruby.

I am in complete agreement. The Js and their incredible chemistry are the reason why I am still as invested in the characters as I have ever been, even if my investment in the show as a whole is not what it used to be. Like you, I am immensely drawn to Jared's sunny personality (and stunning looks, not gonna lie) and Jensen's dry wit. I do think that Jensen was the stronger actor at the beginning of the show, but I think these past couple of years Jared really came into his own and now matches Jensen's skill. I think the Js and their easy companionship are a major factor in the show's success; their friendship really transports to the screen. As John Shiban said back in S1, their kind of chemistry cannot be manifactured. ♥

I think Jensen came in as the stronger actor also. He seems much more comfortable in the role and it took a little while for Jared to ease into I think. But mostly I think he grew once he was given other aspects of Sam to play. Born Under a Bad Sign gave him some new material to work with - which continued with soulless!Sam and Lucifer!Sam.

And the chemistry is definitely what makes it work. I think the trust they have in each other helps them deliver those killer performances when they have to.

Yes, I am the same. I love Jensen, I guess that's obvious but I adore Jared, and Sam and if I had to choose, I couldn't do it. I think both their acting ability has improved, and matured and I think it's because they spark off each other and raise each others game so much. So many of my favourite moments are between the brothers, and my favourite Dean moments are in some part due to Sam, and Sam's due to Dean.

I've never been a fan of the or when it comes to Sam and Dean and much in favour of and because for me, they are, they're Sam and Dean and I can't ever think of one without thinking of the other and those who say Jensen is a better actor, well, I'd direct them to all of Jared's scenes in "Sacrifice" and ask them, "Are you so sure?"

I used to think Jensen was the stronger actor but now, I think Jared has raised the bar so much and is just as strong. I just heart them both so much :)

I have loved watching Jared develop as an actor. I think he did come in as the weaker actor, but there's no way he isn't a match for Jensen now. They have both given stellar performances and I think they've been able to do that because of each other. Jensen baring his soul when he broke down when talking about his experiences in hell (*guh* amazing performance) and Jared in Sacrifice are performances that could happen because they trusted the other so much.

From jump, I was stunned by Jensen's acting (and okay, sure, appearance). I put up with Sam because if Dean loved him, there had to be a reason. Early press with Jared made me fall utterly in love with him, and gradually I came to love Sam, too. In a book I read long ago, the author asked, "How can I really know X without seeing how he is with Y? And how would I know Y if I didn't see how X affects her behavior?"

And so it is with Dean and Sam, and Jensen and Jared. They are separate and unique men, and characters. Still, the way they are in each other's company, the way the characters mold and flow to fit and work together--I can't separate them. They're a unit, both in character and out.
