What are the chances.....?
Apr. 22nd, 2009 04:49 pmI'm trying to "reclaim" some of my earlier vids. I've been able to download some of them off of YT but the ones that have been disabled (which, sadly, is quite a few now) I have not been able to get.
There's one I'm hoping to get hold of and wondered is any of you, but any slim, slim, chance downloaded it and may still have it?? It's "Don't Worry, Be Happy". I know it's highly unlikely, but I had to check.
I've managed to salvage most of the others and even though they are not particularly good it would be nice to have them. (The back ups of my early vids were lost when we changed our back-up drive).
Not being able to post on You Tube is kinda sad. I know it has its faults but there is a lovely community of vid watchers there and it saddens me when I can't share vids with them. And yes, I'm being selfish too because I do love the comments I get from the viewers. Also YT works differently from LJ in that vids can be found months after you've posted them. It's so nice to get a comment on some older vids. With LJ it's pretty much lost after the day it's been posted unless it's rec'd at some point in the future. Though I have had peps check out some early vids after watching some later ones so maybe it's not entirely different.
I really wanted the vid I posted yesterday to take but alas neither YT or iMeem accepted it.
I get it you know. Artists should be paid for the work they do. I noticed that on one of my vids, Jailbreak, an ad popped up with a link to iTunes asking if the viewer wanted to download the song. That was pretty cool I thought. I have no problem with the idea of using a vid to promote a song, (no idea how they manage to do that mind you) and if it means I get to keep the vid up even better. I wonder if they would consider doing that for all song vids?!
I can't believe I even considered checking out the audio swap songs and pick one of those to vid to just to say Up Yours You Tube! But that's ridiculous. I suppose there is something in choosing a copyright free song though. I'm sure elevator music would make an awesome vid!
*sigh* New episode this week and I am chomping at the bit for it. That's sure to lift my spirits a bit. :)

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the copyright holder. Certain music companies will make YT remove vids entirely, whereas others will opt for making revenue off of ads placed on the vids.

Date: 2009-04-22 12:12 pm (UTC)Thanks hun. Some of them I don't really care about but that one was my first kinda "meta" vid and I was pretty happy with it for an early vid.

Yeah. I've never seen those ads before though - it was a real surprise. It makes sense I suppose. It all does. It's just a nuisance.
Have you had many vid taken down or knocked back?

Date: 2009-04-22 12:18 pm (UTC)My earlier account got bahleeted for too many copyright violations along with all the vids and over 1.2 million views :P

Date: 2009-04-22 12:58 pm (UTC)But crap! 1.2 million views!! Not fair. So they delete accounts for too many copyright violations?! Damn.

Date: 2009-04-22 07:22 pm (UTC)Also, I'm not sure if they're still suspending and deleting accounts as much. They were on a rampage for a while, but they seem to be a bit more lax at the moment (since their official policy on copyright violations seems to change daily :P) I knew one girl who got two different accounts deleted within the same month. The first account they deleted on account of one video, whereas the second one she got three notices before they removed it. I've never been able to figure out what the exact policy was since I got four notices before my account was suspended *shrug*

Date: 2009-04-27 09:27 pm (UTC)I know my first YT a/c got deleted after 3 violations for the Human Stain clips. I couldn't get to it in time to delete the rest because I was in LA. Then my 2nd for one miserly little promo ad that I'd uploaded.
I've had more luck keeping things up on DailyMotion.

I checked my files and didn't find the vid either. That must have been before we hooked up. Also, my emails were a bust too. :( Sorry.
I think I remember it though. Did filefront take it down?

Date: 2009-04-22 01:39 pm (UTC)HA! :)
Did filefront take it down?
This vid was before Filefront. I used to put them all on Sendspace before I realised that they took them off after a certain time. I thought they were safe on YT (and on the back up drive!), but alas no.
And yep - this was before we hooked up. Thanks for checking though hun. I think this one will be lost...... that's the way it goes I suppose.

Date: 2009-04-23 12:41 am (UTC)I did that with "I can be anything you like"... they took off the sound but I downloaded the vid and reapplied the soundtrack and I now have my copy back. :D It's not great. The quality is pretty bad and the sound doesn't seem to be matched exactly, but at least it's something.
So yes. If I can at least the picture back I can re-create the vid. :D
(You know this has all come about because someone has asked for copies of all my vids.....)
Thanks - I just love that you thought of that too!!! :D

Date: 2009-04-22 03:13 pm (UTC)I hadn't heard that YT was getting more strict. That bites, simply because it was nice to see a vid and decide if one wanted to dl it.
Your vids, however, I always know I'll love, so I'll be downloading whenever you post one. :D

Date: 2009-04-23 12:15 am (UTC)The only other ones I've lost are even earlier then "Don't Worry", so it would be highly unlikely anyone would have them. Also they were pretty ordinary so I'm not too concerned about them. I dl'd a couple off of YT that I had lost so that was cool. I didn't realise that was so easy to do.

Date: 2009-04-22 07:34 pm (UTC)Have you tried your old download links to see if they still work? Or was there not a download link for that one?
In any event I'm sorry you can't find your vid and that YT keeps disabling them D: That is so very sad.

Date: 2009-04-23 12:18 am (UTC)When I first started vidding I put them on either YT or Sendspace - not realising that Sendspace remove them after a certain time. So no, nothing from the old links unfortunately. (it's only my first 6 or so vids that I have lost).
I'm going to try disputing the ones they have taken down or removed the sound on in the hope that they will be restored then I might be able to dl them.
Thanks for your help.
