Day Nine: Favourite overall villain

So many awesome baddies! I've already listed Lucifer as a favourite character (well, angel) so I'm going to chose a few next favourites. I'm thinking "overall" means a major myth arc type villain. I loved the YED in season 1 and 2 because he really drove the plot in those seasons. Ruby ended up being amazing - she had this wonderful endgame that kept us guessing. Alistair was as creepy as HELL. Meg was all sorts of interesting (loved her in Shadow!). I also loved the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (especially Death and Famine) and I loved Dick Roman.

Ack! Pick one, pick one...as I probably can't pick Gordon (can I? I'd pick him if I could because he was FABULOUS!) I'll go....(as second fav, cause Lucifer would be my first)...um....probably an unpopular fandom choice and say DICK! Dick was so deliciously WRONG! I loved the way he represented corporate America (and the world really). He was smarmy and charismatic. I particularly loved scenes between him and Crowley. He was on of the few characters that could put Crowley in his place. :)

I gotta learn to write one word answers. /o\

(and I know I have some comments to respond to from the last post -I'll get there. Thanks to everyone for being so...um..civil. :))

Ah, interesting. I loved Dick Roman, too, mainly because he represented a completely different type of villain in the show. He was a modern villain, for a lack of a better term, less concerned with ancient prophecies and more with adapting to the modern world he found when he escaped purgatory. Plus, he was fun, as all good villains are. *g*

My absolutely favourite villain, however, is the YED. He is the only villain of the show I found truly menacing (the only one coming close is Lucifer). The YED had such a distinct personality that, even though he was played by several different actors, he was always instantly recognisable.

Yes, yes - a modern villain. I like that they attempted to do something different with that season's Big Bad. Not sure it entirely worked, but the idea was great.

And yes - got to agree the YED was excellent. Such a looming presence.

I think you could pick Gordon if you really wanted to. He made an alarmingly good vampire. :)

I can see how that would be a complex question. I mean, I adore Meg, but I don't know that I'd call her my favourite villain – it isn't her villainy that stands out for me. And with actual Lucifer, I'm torn between appreciating his menace and just wanting to give him a clip over the ear and tell him to grow up. But Lucifer-as-Sam's-hallucination? Pure brilliance.

Dick Roman's an excellent choice, though. I do think the conclusion of the leviathan plot was a bit rushed, so they weren't all they could have been, but the Lovecraftian elder gods reborn as a corporate baby-eating menace was wonderful anyway, and Dick always sounded like the worst amalgamation of millionaire businessmen.

I've a soft spot for Ruby, myself, though. Just because by the end of season four I always feel like giving her a round of applause. :)

I pick Gordon then! Hee...I feel like I need to pick a bigger big bad than him - but I loved the way Gordon was portrayed. A baddie with a great backstory and reason for being the way he was. I also love how motivated he was.

Just because by the end of season four I always feel like giving her a round of applause.

Oh I did too. She won! She was the best (shame for her it was the Winchesters she was up against or she maybe Lucifer's right hand demon now...)

Dick was so deliciously WRONG!

This, right here. That man was all SORTS of wrong, yet so right in the role. Excellent choice! Dick Roman was definitely a runner-up for me. What a fun character!

You could've chosen Gordon, though, as he was one of the Winchesters's best adversaries. He was more "twisted" than "evil," but still. ;)

Yeah - Dick had a quality that was great fun to watch. And Gordon was wonderfully twisted. I had always hoped to see Gordon again (shame we didn't see him in Purgatory).

Galathea_Snb beat me to the chase when she said that Azazel was a favourite villain. My reasons for that is pretty similar to hers, I love how distinctive he was with any actor playing him <3 and he was such a driving force behind how the Winchesters life turned out, which made him such a personal enemy for the boys <3

Honourable Mentions: Alastair (He was such a chilling villain and seeing Dean legitimately scared of him gave him a chilling aura that Lilith never had), Ruby (she was the cleverest villain we've ever seen) and Lucifer.

Azazel was wonderful. I love the personal connection he had with the boys and how he's essentially been in their even before Sam was born.

And *nods* to all the runners up. I particularly love how clever Ruby was.
