Jared and the promos...

No ground breaking observations here, but I am fascinated by their choices in this poster. Also...Jared and that tee! (potential spoilers)





Another photoshop effort from the graphics department. I rather like it (much more than last year's!). It's atmospheric and seems to have a narrative of some sort. In most promo posters Sam is strong and looking forward. Here he is the only one looking down and not engaging the viewer. I suspect it reflects his state going into S9 but I have to assume he's not going to remain this wrecked for long. It makes me curious why they chose to show Sam like this. Maybe it's purely based on the first episode. I love how strong and determined Dean looks - Crowley and Cas do too for that matter. Also, Sam has metal bands on his wrists. I assume one is his watch. What's the other one I wonder? A bracelet? Since when?

And that tee! *guh* He's seen in much of the promo stuff in this t-shirt. I figure it's about making him look stripped back - almost vulnerable. I dunno! Maybe they've dressed him in this simply because he looks damn hot in it - but all these things are taken into consideration when preparing for a promo shoot so dressing him in a clingy, grey t-shirt has to mean something. Doesn't it?! (ok...so it's just so we can see more of his arms...I'M NOT COMPLAINING!)







Aaaaanyway. All the promos have been pretty cool (and HOT!). It feels like there's quite a different feel going into S9. Less horror and more..I dunno..sexy intrigue? We shall see I suppose. TWO WEEKS PEOPLE!!

It seems the picture is of Jensen, Jared, Cas and Crowley. Seeing as that the first two are not in costume and the latter two are.

LOL the promo shots all hit the wrong note for me. I like the poster OK but I just think all the promo shots look...goofy.

I think, looking at all the promo stuff there's a strange mix of..um...messages. I'm not sure what the green frame ones are all about. They are definitely goofy to me. I don't mind the others because...well, I'm damn superficial and they look rather beautiful...;)

While I really like the dark and atmospheric feel of the promo piece, I've got to agree with linvro21 above. No matter how much we'd like it to be true, Sam and Dean never dress that way. While Crowley and Castiel always do. That is indeed Jared and Jensen, not Sam and Dean.

. . . which is kinda sloppy work on the promo department's part, if you ask me.

Unless, of course, S9 is giving us a "revamped" Sam and Dean, and the boys will be showing off more of their pretty skin and sexy curves physical assets this season? *hopes like mad*

Yes. I can see it now. *head scratch* They don't dress like that at all. It therefore makes no sense to me. Other than them using photos they all ready have and making a poster from them (damn!).

You'd think with all the promo dollars they seem to have they could take some pics of Sam and Dean (though - I felt like the pics by the window were Sam and Dean. I was thinking maybe we were going to be getting a slightly revamped look for the boys...(but probably not). Ack! I'm confused....

The bracelet is actually JARED's cuff with Thomas' birthdate on it. I find it odd that they included it in the promo shots.

Sam's pose definitely makes him seem very introspective. I doubt it means anything because LOLCWMARKETING but you never know lol!

But I really really wish they would just take a LITTLE more care with these promo posters - why waste all the lovely new photo shoot pics on a poorly put together poster? Why not let the SPN design guys do the artwork? Or like someone else suggested, have an open competition for fans to contribute? It would get them free designs and I guarantee hugely better quality, and the buzz in fandom for such a competition would be fierce.

Oh well too late now and this one does have some merit... LOL!

I agree!! We had that promo by the window with Cas (maybe Misha?) without the coat and then we have this one with the coat. We have the boys in suits (Sam and Dean I assume?) and then in the clothes they have above. And then jared in sexy pink!

What a mix. I totally agree there should be a fan competition. They would definitely to a better job than these guys I reckon. ;)

I don't mind the composition of this one - and the mood, but the costume choices are rather weird.

shackles? something to do with the trials and how Dean gets him off his death bed?

but then again, i would trust that the CW and Supernatural promo department would have to pass this by TPTB but considering that they didn't remember about the Grand Canyon, yeah, i don't know.

The oddest things to me are that Sam seems to be wearing Jared's cuff. I'm pretty sure Sam has never worn such a thing, right? And Jensen's right leg looks.. weirdly photoshopped.

Promo shots are usually, to my observation, not 'in character' but impart the vibe of the show they're advertising. So these are the actors, styled in ways that showcase their good points, (Jensen's smoulder and hot jacket, Jared's ridiculous physique, and I do enjoy Mark and Misha in suits!) in a vaguely American creep-show setting.

The Photoshopping, while better than last year, still kinda sucks. Different POVs and lightsources, the scale is wonky, the falling angel bombs are way too perfect and organized ... criminy, there are so many decent artists who understand this stuff and are hungry for jobs: HIRE ME THEM.

That was the exact thing that crossed my mind when this came out...why do they engage fandom to make these?! I sometimes wonder if they are made deliberately..um...weird (our of proportion etc), to stylise them - to make them look other worldly. I dunno - it seems weird to me for someone to create this poster in PS and not attempt to get those things right.

And yeah - advertising. Good point about them using the actors styled in ways that showcase their good points. I have to say it did catch my eye and it's all curious enough to make me want to have a good look at it (or,well...that's probably just me ;D)

If I can find it on my dash, someone who is a graphic designer analyzed the promo poster and pointed out how horrendous of a design job it is. Not saying the boys don't look fab but whoever does promotional posters for the show (or cw I'm not sure who that falls on) is a horrible designer that likely shouldn't be employed.

I also heard a story from Dallas Con that Jared said he looks so small compared to Jensen because Jensen whines and complains about Jared being 'bigger' so they do these "tricks" to make Jensen appear bigger but as you can see it just looks silly half of the time. Although, that gave me a chuckle thinking of Jensen whining about being the 'short' one.

Yeah - I've seen some complaints about the graphic design of the piece. I think that it stands out so much that I wonder if it's deliberate to make it looks - um - stylised or something. I dunno. It seems weird that they do these. (though I'm not complaining! I actually don't mind it. Sam/Jared look suitably hurt...;D)

Hmmm...red carnation. I had to check out if that meant anything. Apparently it symbolises pure love... (not sure how that connects to Crowley...). The fact that it's burning...????

There are alot of things I like about this promo pic I think the background is beautiful with the church and the fallen angels...

But I have to say I really don't like the way they've presented the actors in this. Is it just me or are they highly photoshopped to the point where they all look like plastic dolls? :s. I'm normally really attracted to J2 and Misha, but in this I'm not in the slightest because they just look really doll like and fake to me :s.

I don't think it's just you. Definitely over photoshopped. I just can't tell if it's deliberate - so as to emphasis the unreal nature of their world - or just...um...overdone. I do love the background also. It has a lovely feel to it.

Yeah, I don't know but I hope that doesn't turn out to be the cover of the S9 DVD. The weird thing about the promos is the die-on-Tuesday one has Jared and Jensen introducing themselves as that but does Mark Sheppard ever give any other name besides Crowley? It's like this weird fourth wall smash. People who show up to watch based on Jared's pecs are going to be disappointed when Sam shows up in his 900 layers. The poster looks like American Gothic gone really wrong. However, that all really doesn't matter because BOOTS. With this show, it's the really simple pleasures you have to grab as they come by. I'm sure we'll be sobbing come Tuesday.

Them introducing themselves and Jared and Jensen and then later saying "we don't fist bump" (which felt like Sam and Dean to me) and then having Crowley - was indeed messing with the forth wall. Maybe we're in for another a Jared and Jensen episode...;)

I am continually mystified by most of the choices the network makes for promos (and just about everything else). This poster is interesting, but it looks so WEIRD. The boys look hot, but not quite right. And those green floating rectangles? Seriously?

I'm just gonna keep looking at how hot the boys look and wait excitedly for S9 to begin :)

Those green floating rectangles are completely mystifying. I wondered if it was part of a general CW promotion (all shows doing something similar for example...)

But the boys are looking damn fine...
