Day 17: Favourite SPN Ship



I'm not sure, but there seems to be two types of shipping (if I understand the term "shipping" correctly) - canon ships and non canon ones. I'm going to split mine up.

My fav canon pairings would have to be - Sam/Jess, Sam/Sarah, Castiel/Meg, Dean/Lisa and John/Mary

My fav non-canon ship is definitely Sam/Dean. They are the only pairing I actively seek out in stories - though I have occasionally read some others - Dean/Benny, Sam/Cas, Sam/Kevin.

Though I have to add Dean/Impala after being delightfully persuaded by cassiopeia7's lovely post.

It's probably what confuses me a bit with shipping. Even though Sam and Sarah didn't have a long term relationship on the show, I figure it's a canon ship because there's evidence that they were romantic.

Generally when I think of 'canon' ships I think of actual romantic relationships which have been established on the show. For me Sam & Sarah definitely had a mutual attraction that could have grown into more, but it wasn't really a ship any more than we'd consider one of Dean's random one night stands. Of course the term has no set meaning really so I'm sure there are others who would count Sarah, one night stands etc as ships :)

Fanon ships on the other hand of course have no limits at all. They can range from Wincest and Destiel where the two characters involved have had lots of interaction for characters to interpret as they will right down to Samandriel where the two characters involved were in one scene together lol.

I suspect regaining any sort of trust after something like that (wiping her memory) would be pretty tough. That's not to say I wouldn't mind seeing her again. I'd love to see her brought back into a story line (not to kill her off though..)

I would be interested in seeing Lisa brought back and them exploring the consequences especially since one of my biggest annoyances with the show is how they let Dean do things like mind-rape Lisa, kill Benny and portray it as right. Yet any other character would be condemned for those same actions. // pet peeve alert.

Hee...and Dean/Castiel isn't controversial. :) (well, not to me...) I absolutely respect anyone's ship. I think it's wonderful that we can all find something we like - and like to ship - in the show. <333

Nice to know :) LJ seems to be the retreat of the moderate fans. I had to bow out of tumblr and avoid twitter because it seemed every page I went on was filled with people bitching about those evil "brother fans" or "Destiel" fans depending on where they stood. Ugh.
