Hey lovely peoples. I feel like I'm falling behind and looking at stuff (I see there's a ton of art and fic around) but I am seriously short of time at the moment. My play is in its second week (going really well! We've had some great feedback) and I'm back at work (arghhhhh Year 3! Such a steep (re-learning) curve from teaching Year 7.

The conversation on the last episode has been epic! I'm making my way through all the awesome comments. Once again I thank everyone for being so awesome and respectful of other fans thoughts. It was a pretty divisive episode - I suppose the thing I'm hoping is that at least some people are beginning to see that there are two sides here. Once both sides can be seen it makes things a little easier to accept (maybe?). And even after reading all the stuff I am still feeling positive and excited for this direction. I know in my heart of hearts this isn't the end of their remarkable and amazing love for each other (can't rehash it all here - but it's expressed in much of the replies in the reaction post).

(Just did a small flist tidy. Mostly removing deleted journals, inactive comms etc. If I accidentally removed you (ack!) let me know…)
xx

Hey! Yeah, I'm doing David Williamson's "Brilliant Lies" at the Garrick (I've posted about it a few times *g*). Er…much easier to follow than the last one! And from the audience response it's been going pretty well. :D

Woo hoo!Trust a good time, a coherent time even, was had by all. Sorry I missed out, ... should probably pay more attention. Thinking I need to sort out the filter thing, too! Seem to miss a lot of stuff, when I actually get here. :o

Glad to hear the play is going so well! And you are a teacher? Crikey, that's hard work, hat's off to ye.
I keep pointing people to your Purge post (and doesn't that sound ... dirty?!) with the same hope that folk will find some balance there.

Yep! I'm a teacher. I was trained as a high school teacher but I've found myself in the primary school system. I've mostly been teaching upper school but this year they threw me a curve ball and put me in with the little ones. I feel well out of my depth.

And I hope people can find something balanced there. I know it's hard but even after I've done all the reading (and come to understand why Sam is being regarded so harshly) I am still feeling that there's something positive here. I've also been pointed in the direction of other positive posts which is great to see. Good to see some other fans seeing hope and appreciating the two sides story. :))

I think so - the world is unbalanced enough already without Fandom joining in...
cordelia_gray's pointed out this article which I liked, son't know if you saw it already http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/02/supernatural-episode-913-discussion.html

Hi,

I did she her post and I have been meaning to read that review (I have been so wary of reviews. Most seem to want to say that it's totally bad what's happening now). But I loved this. It was wonderfully balances and made a better case for Sam than I have been able to (i think *g*).

thanks. Gonna have to rec it myself now. ;)

Thanks for keeping me, even though I'm not exactly active at the moment! Thinking about SPN is kind of hurting my brain after that last episode, but thanks for all the positive reinforcement. Much appreciated. :-)

Good luck with the play - hope it continues to be great! <3

Hey! I didn't remove anyone who still has their journal live - just all the ones with crosses through it (of which there were a few actually). I very rarely de-friend any one - even those who don't post often. :D

So glad the play is going so well!

And I would be so intimidated teaching older kids! Year 3 and below is more my teaching style :)

Hi hun! The play has been fun.

And I seriously need to get the hang of Year 3s. I'm sure they will be fine - but wow, I forgot how much attention the need!

You are a rockstar for keeping your toe dipped in fandom when so swamped. I'm glad the play is going so well!

I mostly liked the episode, but was pretty sure that looking for fandom opinions was going to rock my boat in an unhappy way, so I have stayed away. Suffice it to say, I came away with a conviction that it's not A or B, but both. Dean saves Sam because he's selfish and doesn't want to live without him AND because he was given an impossible responsibility since the age of 4 to save his little brother, which he has done admirably, and he can't help it.

I've been visiting my sister and her husband all week and they are fans but not Fans. Right now we are marathoning season 9 together (they're up to 9.05) to get them current. And yet... they aren't *fans* who are so emotionally invested in the show that they angst and wring their hands and yell. I suspect that they represent the majority of viewers, really, who watch the show more superficially. It's been a bit of an eye-opener to see the show through their eyes.

Hee…I could never keep out of fandom completely. And even now when there's some pretty torrid stuff about I'm still happy to be hanging around (I just wish I had more time to see, read and watch all the stuff!).

Suffice it to say, I came away with a conviction that it's not A or B, but both. Yeah. It's pretty easy really, but wow, some fans just can't see that there could be possibly two sides.

I would love to watch the show with casual watchers. I often wonder how they take it all. I'm sure they'd come off an ep (like the last one) saying - oh, that's interesting - and that be it! None of the dissecting, angsting, arguing and hair pulling. The show gets about 2.5 million viewers per ep and I gotta think the majority of those are casual watchers (I would love to know how many hardcore fans there actually are).

It's been a bit of an eye-opener to see the show through their eyes.

Anything in particular? Or just how less wrapped up they are… ;)

It's mostly how inconceivable it would be that anything would upset them! Honestly, I feel like they are from another planet observing what the natives are doing, or like Greek gods up on Mt. Olympus or something. They are entertained, amused, shocked... but they aren't identifying with any one specific character over another and feeling his pain in that way. As you say, no hair-pulling! ;D

When I think about it, if I were watching some show that I like just fine and watch all the episodes but am not 'fannish' about, I can totally imagine seeing something that 'fans' would blow up over and it not bothering me at all.

Your journal has been my go-to this season for actual literate, passionate discussion of the show. I've pretty stopped doing that completely on my own journal or anywhere else lol. It's nice to have a safe outlet for it!

In bocca al lupo on your play!

Aw thanks hun. I'm blessed to have such interesting and articulate peeps on my flist - I love that they feel they can make their point and not worry about being shouted down. I hope that never changes. And thanks for your thoughts! I'm always curious to see how you're responding - considering how you are feeling about this season. And your sense of humour is always awesome …(I think if we can all manage to keep that then fandom can still be fun!).

Thanks hun! It't been great fun! (and I gotta say that I love it when my rl crosses with my fl (fandom life) and that meets my tl (theatre life). It happened tonight when friends I met here on LJ came to watch my play).

Break a leg, lovely! (And thank you for being such a balancing force I our 'vivid' fandom.)

Thanks sweetie! :)

Hee…and vivid is certainly one way to put it! It actually makes little sense to me that people can't speak respectfully even when they disagree. I really don't like using the phrase "it's just a tv show" (because clearly it's far more than that *g*), but to be so horrid over something we have absolutely no control over and for something that's essentially there to entertain us (even when it's killing us!) puzzles me. Though it's about the passion and whenever that's involved I suppose there's going to be high emotion.

Damn that there's 2 weeks until the next ep!
