To the podficcers on my flist
Apr. 14th, 2014 01:07 pmHelp?
So, just say I was considering making a podfic what recording program should I use? And how would I go editing it (because I know I'd make lots of mistakes). I have Audicity. Would that work?
Any advice (including tips!) would be most welcome. :)
(though I'll probably chicken out before posting anything, but I'm on holidays, with a little bit of extra time on my hands, so I thought I'd have a play).

Date: 2014-04-15 01:18 pm (UTC)I was thinking this actually. The couple of fics I want to read are ones that I think are great stories (which means I really don't want to stuff it up!).
I played a bit with Garage Band today and I couldn't figure out how to go back and edit. If you say you do it as you go it makes sense because I'm not sure you can go back and edit. Actually, editing as you go means you'd save a lot of work afterwards. Hmmm...I hadn't thought of that (the post edit was freaking me out a bit. I might try doing it as I go also).
Thanks! I had all sorts of trouble with producing something loud enough today. My in-built laptop mic seems to work better than my external mic (or I just need to work out how to adjust that).
I was listening to one of your recordings today - so I could get a feel for the pace. I'm sure I'm reading too fast atm. :)

Date: 2014-04-15 01:26 pm (UTC)ETA: what I understand is that some people record in garage band and edit in audacity? IDK.
There was one tip I found that I use all the time and I'm not sure if it improves the sound quality or if I just THINK it improves it, but on your audio track select Female Narrator Noisy and it seems to tamp down some external noises (I often have sirens as I live a few blocks from a major medical center). I don't know if that would improve the volume or not
I used my macbook mic for my first handful of podfics, and then bought a gaming headset with a mic and use that now.

Ah, ok. that's a good time. I can try that. :)
Thanks!
