Seven Day of Self Promotion - Day 2

The Days:
1. Something old

7. Something you're just really proud of

I'm not sure if "new" means something recent or something currently being worked on. So, I've gone for both.

My most recent work was We're Never (always!) Getting Back Together. It's kind of weird because whereas the reaction on LJ was positive (and wonderful! thank you), it's really struggling with views on You Tube. Not that I worry about view count, but it seems strange in comparison. And it's also weird that I made that because I KNEW at some point the brothers would get back together, but I didn't count on it being the way that it happened (or...*head scratch* didn't happen). So I'm still holding out for them really getting back together. :))



I really can't settle on the thing to do next (and it's making me feel restless for some reason).

I really want to make a S9 vid and I wondered about this song (Sweet Dreams)?. I like the idea of exploring the theme of abuse and use in S9 (because the more I think about it the more that theme seems to apply to nearly all the characters featured during that season), but I'm concerned the song is a little...um...twee.

I also want to make a Jody vid. I have the song and I'm think that's probably the one I'll do first. *hearts* Jody.

Oh and I have two fandomaid vids I need to make (though I haven't been able to contact the bidder for one of them so I'm not sure what to do about that).

I ALSO have this idea for a vid that I can PICTURE IN MY HEAD but I have no idea how to do it. It would require heaps of mashing up of music and dialogue and it feature all the classic quotes and moments. I really want to work out how to make it because I don't think it's something that's been done before (well, that I've seen anyway).

And I want to do the S8 motels. I'm not sure whether to just to the Wiki update or actually create a LJ post. The posts are a huge amount of work (which, I actually enjoy), but I just might not have the time to do it and I'm not sure there's that much interest in them.



So yeah. Lots of new things I'd like to do. Just gotta work out which one do to first...

As for your next work, they all sound great and they're so varied, no wonder it's making you restless!

If I had to pick, I'd go for your season 9 vid. I think the song is actually quite haunting and will be a great choice for your subject material. Twee? No, I don't think so, this version is unfamiliar to me, and it could just add an eerie sense of the Uncanny.

And yes - I really love the haunting quality of the song. I seem to be drawn to sweet girl voices and I know it can clash with the style of the show (hee - which hasn't stopped me in the past from using them...;D).

If you absolutely cannont decide, I'd vote for the Jody vid, because there aren't (m)any around, and there is much to say about her. Also the dialogue & music mash-up vid, that sounds very intriguing, and, if done right, could be totally amaizingsocks....

Yeah, Jody is at the top of my list at the moment. She has a strong character arc (and character) and I've been itching to vid her.

It SO could! I know exactly what I want it to do but when I started playing with it I realised how tricky it's going to be. I saw exactly the thing I want to do on an Australian show I was watching recently but I can't find a copy of it anywhere - which is a shame because I know that would help me. I'm definitely going to keep it in mind though.

Ahhh, I loved that vid!!! I always like your ideas, and would love to see an S9 vid from you now that the season is over.

I keep wishing for an upbeat Winchesters in the Impala vid to "Run Them Red Lights" or whatever it's called. I can't help but visualize it as Sam and Dean saying screw it, we don't care what anyone else thinks, and racing off into the sunset... That song makes me smile every time I hear it because that's all I'm thinking about :)

And yes yes - that song has great lyrics for the Winchesters. The desire to just run away and leave it all behind - just the two of them, on the road...*happy sigh*. I'll keep it in mind if I have the time to something with it. Happy Winchester vids are always fun to do (because we neeeeeeeds happy boyssss!)

Yes, yes, yes, please make a vid using Sweet Dreams! It's the perfect song!!
I have always wanted to make a vid using this song, Breathe Me by Sia, but I have no vid making skills. If you ever used this I would forever grovel at your feet. It's my favourite song ever and I think it'd fit SPN really well.

I'm just working on my recs for the newsletter now. One of them is a fic I'm not quite finished reading yet which is incredible (and almost 300,000 words in length). I'll have the recs to you tomorrow :)

Oh wow, that video is amazing! It was beautiful. I had a vision in my head of it fitting Dean with the whole Gadreel possession and the fallout from it, but that was stunning and it fit Sam's situation so well. I absolutely think it should be in the newsletter. I'm going to have to check out more of their work.

And of course it's really cool that the song is by an Aussie artist :)

Holy cow, the visuals in that video are stunning - probably some of the best I've seen in a fanvid! They're incredibly creative.

I was hoping I could finish the story I'm reading before the newsletter goes out but I'm only half way through. Usually I can knock over a super long story relatively quickly but I've got a bunch of RL stuff taking a lot of my time and focus. I don't think it matters though, I've read enough to know it's a fantastic story to rec with a huge amount of Sam whump. Even though the story is pretty much entirely Dean's POV and Sam isn't in it as much as Dean, and even when there are entire chapters with no Sam, he's pretty much the focus. I think he's going to go darkside in it soon but it still won't take away from the Sam whump which is pretty much never ending - kind of like the show. Poor guy, literally nothing in this is his fault and everything goes so badly wrong.

The fic was originally on FF.net and got a reasonably good number of reviews but over on AO3 it's been pretty much ignored - only one comment and eleven kudos which must be heartbreaking after the effort she's put into it. I have no idea if it's because of the length, because it's a Gen story, or if the new summary she wrote for it turned people off but it really deserves to be read. I was astonished when I looked at her profile and found out her age. When she began the story she was only 18 and, except for a few spelling and grammatical errors (and not a large amount), it's incredibly well written.

This month I had to dig for fics to rec for the newsletter because a lot of what I've read has been protective!Sam or dark!Sam for a change :)

I love the motel posts. I'm really enjoying the motels/places they squat in as I do my rewatch. There are some crackers!

Um, question. Have you seen any friending memes of late? I feel like my entire flist is (a) not watching SPN any more and (b) not very active (rather like me most of the time, but still) or (c) just posting about real life (which is completely fine, me again). But it would be nice to make a few new friends who are still on LJ and still having fun here in fandom. It might inspire me to be fandom-y again, ya know. :)

This is a thing! I am a couple of days behind because of weekend busy-ness. But it's a good way to look back on past works! You should do it!

I think I'm definitely going to do Sweet Dreams. I've been thinking a lot about it so will try and tackle it.

Yay motels! I'm such a geek when it comes to them.

I don't know of any current memes. I can certainly rec you some active peeps on LJ if you'd like. I still follow quite a few active SPN fans. It's a little slower while the show isn't on, but there are still some making regular posts.

Showing my age here but I much prefer Eurythmics' version of Sweet Dreams...it has much more punch.

Well, my initial thought was to look at how many of the characters were "used" and some abused over the season. Not just Sam (though yeah, that would certainly be one aspect). I think Dean was used by Crowley and Cain (and attempted abuse by Abaddon), Gadreel was used by Metatron, Cas ended up being used by his followers (that one is a little more tenuous - but I think Cas fits in there somewhere). Kevin absurd (oh man, on so many levels - not just this season). Even some of the OCs - like Alexis (used/abused by the vamps).

It would be my way of working through the season. Looking at how Sam wasn't the only one to be used (and abused). How, by the end of the season, all the characters suffered in their own way.

So yep. Nothing cheery about this one. But I think I need to do it to help me feel better about the season.

Oh ok, I see what you mean. And I do think that Cas was abused by his followers. Being told to kill Dean to prove his loyalty... that was abuse. And they seemed to forget that Metatron used and abused them... they were very quick to give up on Castiel and give their loyalty to Metatron, instead.
