Epic Bromance!

I have no idea how I didn't see this before (like last year when it was posted!).

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki's Epic Bromance. I know some don't like the term bromance, but I'm not one of them. *g* I can't think of a better way to describe a friendship that goes beyond just bestest buddies.

The cynical part of me sometimes thinks that they're "faking" it for the sake of the show, but really, there's just too much natural chemistry between them to think they could be simply acting the part. And having watched quite a lot of con footage (when making the last J2 vid), there's a genuine protectiveness of each other (especially Jensen for Jared. Jensen gets damn FIERCE when anyone says something to Jared that he thinks is uncalled for). I mostly find con footage (and even interviews) hard to watch because there's a squick factor that I can't get past (mostly the questions!).

Also, those lovely little moments in the gag reel? Priceless (I sincerely hope there's more to the the S9 gag reel than this. It's just so damn short! 23 eps and only 3 mins of bloopers?! Nope).

At the moment the Js are my happy place. Sam and Dean used to be my happy place, but they are increasingly becoming characters that don't exactly bring me joy (it's probably not helping that I am clipping for a Kevin vid and boy, they neglected him and it makes me mad at them!).

Those two together always make me smile - I love that they are constant and that they aren't afraid to say out loud how much they love and respect each other. I don't know if their friendship is unusual but it is unusual for blokes to TALK about it. (Sam and Dean anybody? LOL)

And yes, that gag reel better be at least 10 minute longer than that clip!

I know what you mean about some of the con questions - I loved JIB this year because they had a new strict system for vetting people's questions while we were in line and I think it actually worked to weed out some of the more inane, boring stuff.

So..this vetting system. Couldn't you just "say" you're going to ask a certain question and then change your mind and ask something different? Though - yeah, I'm sure they could say "that's been asked a million times...can you ask something else?"

Apparently a couple of people who thought to do that - write down their question and then ask something totally different - got ejected from the convention. One of my friends jokingly asked Misha to film her asking Jared her question and very nearly got chucked out afterwards. They were being really strict - and wouldn't let anyone ask anything personal about guests' families or children. We still had some silly questions but overall I thought the standard was pretty high!

I can relate to that. :-/ I've been meaning to ask you whether it's a good idea after all for me to write you a Sam/Dean fic for the auction thing. Is there any secondary character you like - especially among the women? Someone else you might like reading fic about?

Hey! No no...I actually love reading Sam and Dean stuff because it helps me work things out. Fanfic Sam 'n Dean (or Sam/Dean) is a much happier place for me than canon Sam 'n Dean at the moment. Fic that either visits a happier time or uses current canon and resolves it all (*koff* with lots of healthy sex) is a happy place. I still adore the actual characters - it's just Carver's interpretations of them that leave me a little bit sad (or rather, what he has them doing...).

That said, I adore Jody (and Sam 'n Jody - and even Sam/Jody) would be totally awesome too!

I've wondered, fleetingly, if they just fake it for the camera- mostly because people allege that and it makes you pull back and look at the two of them with a slightly more cynical eye.

But I just can't get with that idea. I mean, just in the way they look at each other. And you can see their chemistry coming through their characters.

Also, interesting to note is the way they prank people. It's rarely them pranking each other, it's them as a team pranking their costars. I think that says a lot.

yeah - it's tricky isn't it? I know that you can created a very deep bond with someone you act with (I've experienced that) - because you are exposing yourself on a level you wouldn't normally expose. There's a deep level of trust and I think they definitely share that. I keep thinking if they actually didn't get along we'd feel a sense of that. And I can't help thinking that they wouldn't have shared a house if they didn't actually like each other.

And yeah - those looks. There's respect, admiration and a level of familiarity that's endearing.

I have no doubt what so ever that these two are as genuine as they come and the fact that they do adore each other, and each other's families, as much as they do fills me with a strange sense of pride. So many times you see a show where the main actors cannot stand each other and only sit together at cons for the sake of ratings, but these two men, and all their extended families, because I think that's what they've become now, truly do love each other.

A lot of what I love so hard about the spn fandom rolls down hill from these two. They adore each other, so we all do the same, it's a family, and they have shown us how to make friends into loved ones :)

Yes. I agree. I'm feels so genuine. There was a moment in some con footage that really spoke to me...

a little gif (http://ash48.tumblr.com/post/48825028287/vancon-breakfast-i-love-the-way-jensen-looks-back) that shows a candid moment when Jensen looks back to see what Jared is doing. It's "off screen", so speaks volumes about their relationship.

They adore each other, so we all do the same, it's a family, and they have shown us how to make friends into loved ones :)

J2 always. I also love that they choose to spend time together, even when they aren't filming -- Jensen visiting Austin over hiatus, for example. Or being groomsmen in each other's weddings. Or Thomas requesting a video of Uncle Jensen because he missed him so much. ALL OF IT. ALL THE TIME!

Yes! You'd think they might have had enough of each other spending so much time together! But you have to imagine that they trust each other so much and know each other so well, that being together is so very comfortable and easy. A match made in heaven.

I think I'm mostly sticking with the show because of the Js now and my LJ flist. I'm more interested in how Jensen does the directing of his ep than the actual episode plot and I think that says a lot. If it weren't for my attachment to the two of them (and the amazing antics of one Osric Chau who isn't even on anymore) I don't think I'd be back this season. I think what you see from the two of them is pretty genuine even if they do amp it up a bit for the fans. Over and over, actors and crew have commented on what a great working environment the SPN set is and I think the Js and the way they are with each other has everything to do with that. But they're just so hard to look at, you know?.....all that blindingly gorgeous glory.

*nods* and *nods* I'm pretty scared for S10 (and I'm not sure yet if that's in a good way or not), but I'll always want to watch because of the two of them. I mean, I know that are so hard to look at, but I am prepared to make sacrifices. I'm dedicated liked that. :)

I am really looking forward to seeing what Jensen does. I would say he will have grown as a director (though I really did love the first ep he directed. I thought he did a great job of that).

There's definitely too much chemistry between them for it to be an act! :D It's the little things that confirm that it's not just them faking it, like the way they're instantly in on each other's jokes. And faking it for nine years would be pretty Oscar-worthy.

The previous gag reels have been quite long (like 7-9 minutes?), and I don't think they've ever been shown in full in Comiccon. *is totally an optimist*

I SO SO hope we get some more. What we've got is awesome - but we NEEDS MORE!!! There's all the pie in the face stuff, so that's gotta be on there somewhere I would have thought. *fingers crossed*

I've said this a lot recently. While I will always love the show, it's evolution is not my happy place. I'm so engaged with this show because of the Js. Both individually and as a pair. I've loved other shows, but *never* been swept in like this before. Simply put, the two are magic together. And after reading about them from multiple sources and seeing them together in RL, I'm a firm believer in the bromance and the chemistry. Even my husband *gets* it now after having "met/seen" them together at the last Vegas con.

Just looking back over the past 9 years and the way this show's fandom has grown and spread and the proliferation of conventions that are focused *only* on this show is evidence enough.

There is *nothing* that will cheer me up then watching a J2 fanvid or interview.

I said this on Twitter the other day, I'm in love with their friendship.

Yes, their friendship is easy to be in love with. :)) And I would say it's plays so much into the success of the show. Not just as Sam and Dean, but their off screen chemistry is magic to watch also. I sometimes wonder if I'd still be around if they were douche bags. Though, I suspect the show wouldn't be around still if they were.

It's my dream to actually meet them one day. Probs won't even happen. But a gal can dream!

There is a fic I read, and no, I can't remember the title, damn it, but when I read this part of your post it came instantly to mind. Beautifully written, it tells the story of the boys from the beginning of Supernatural, using the premise that the guys hated each other on sight and were warned to act like they liked each other. I think Jared dumped Jen's sister and that's what spurred Jen's hatred. There's lots of fights on and off set, Jen fighting his growing fantasies. It's a happy ending but I love the journey getting there. And now, I have to hunt this down, LOL! I'll let you know if I find it.

Oh that fic sounds interesting! Did you manage to find it? I can't imagine the two of them really fighting. I suppose they have disagreements every now and then, but I also think they'd work hard at staying positive and supportive of each other.

I'm a cynic, but even for me it's hard to imagine the Js could fake friendship so well for so long, or that they gain enough by it that it would still be worth the effort after nine seasons.

A few years ago I had a friend here on LJ who was positive that the guys were faking their actions at every convention. She told me she was sure they said and did everything from a pre-approved script to keep the fans happy. Needless to say, she didn't remain my friend for long! WTH???

Even before I went to my first con, I could tell they weren't faking their friendship and then when I actually saw them in person, I knew it was real. Everything they do points to the bond they formed so quickly 10 years ago. They've been in each other's weddings for goodness sakes! And just watching them you can tell they truly enjoy each other's company.

And I'm pretty sure if they weren't such great friends? SPN would not have stayed on the air as long as it has. ;)

that's lovely they're Epic Bromance. i am dreading season 10 or i was until i was convinced not to anymore and wait and see. i really, really hope season 10 can make up for the past 2 years of hell we went through with Sam and Dean and i can feel this show emotionally again. otherwise :(. i am holding on to my last thread of hope that 1. Sam saves hs brother, 2. Sam gets a pov, 3. they resolve their issues, and finally 4. they hug. if none of these things happen in the fall, i will be crushed. until then, i have occupied myself with listening to my spotify playlist. im still here for J2. if i see some semblance of the characters (strangers) i used to know.

This makes me think of some of the stuff I see on tumblr. People getting mad at Sam and/or Dean for things they have done... sometimes to the point where they don't like the characters anymore. And they talk about it back and forth, doing all they can to "prove" just how bad/wrong the character is. To me, both boys are flawed, they've both done things I don't "like" and they've both done many wonderful things that I love them for. My feelings for them don't change, based on what they've done "wrong."

So - sorry its so late!

And I am ABSOLUTELY sure they're not faking it now. Considering they are now living nearly next door to each other (and have spent time together last weekend!).

And yes - I know we can always find things that annoy us about the character actions. As I think I've said before, I love their flaws and I think their neglect of Kevin works as a "flaw" but it also serves to show us how strong Kevin is. Even after how they treated him, he still had it in him to forgive them. And if they can realise their flaws then it all becomes about character growth (and I actually enjoy those tumblr back and forth discussions. Even though they never really solve anything, I like seeing how other people view the characters and their actions. I haven't been on tumblr for a while so haven't seen what people are saying at the moment. Might be a good thing!).

I'm excited for S10! (the hiatus has been good for me I think. *g*)

Yes, there's no doubt that their friendship is genuine. I'm glad you see it that way now.

So many of the discussions I've seen on tumblr (and on LJ too) are geared toward spreading negativity toward certain characters, or toward the show itself. It becomes more about hating on a character, rather than discussing their flaws.

I'm glad you're excited for S10! I hope you can keep this feeling alive, and not let the negativity bring you down.
