4. How many vid ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?

I am nurturing about 4 vids ideas at the moment. I always love vidding the gag reel, so I'm waiting for that to come out to make a start on that (which it has, so yay!). I also have an idea for a vid that I'd like to have done by the 200th episode. There's also a Jody vid I'd love to do. Oh and an epic wincesty type vid that has been FOREVER brewing. I hope that will happen one day.

11. Is there a section of canon above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

It's got to be the "die for each other" epic love story of Sam and Dean. Their relationship is forever inspiring. Even when it's really bad (::koff:: S8/S9) I'm fascinating and obsessed with it. And pretty much the show itself. Even when I'm vidding other characters it's the epicness of the show that inspires me.

12. What's the best vidding advice you've ever come across?

My lovely beta [livejournal.com profile] _sharvie_ used to always give me great advice when I started out. Something that has always stuck with me is "have a clear idea what you want to say in the vid". I usually write down my objectives and keep coming back to them while I'm making the vid to make sure that by the end it's not a mess of ideas. I'm sure I don't always achieve that, but it something that's always on my mind.

13. What's the worst vidding advice you've ever come across?

I can't say I've been given any bad advice but I've seen bad advice given to others. For me "don't worry about what people say, just vid for yourself" is not great advice. I mean, we all do what we do because we love it but if we are only doing it for ourselves then there's a danger of neglecting the audience. I don't think it's fair to neglect youraudience. I think by doing the very best you can, you are respecting the people who will be viewing it. If you are vidding (or making art or fic) purely for yourself then that essentially means you don't need to make it public. I suspect there will different views on this, but I'm sure most people create stuff hoping viewers/readers etc will like it - so make it the best you can do.

26. Share three of your favorite vidders and why you like them so much.

Ack! Oh noes, this is REALLY hard! I have so many vidders I love - and all for different reasons. Ok, I'll pick a few (plus some!) because I think they are great. I have such HUGE admiration for [livejournal.com profile] secretlytodream. The thing I love most about her vids is how innovative she always is. She always seems to do something different ahead of everyone else. She has an amazing eye for the way a vid looks and seems to constantly push the boundaries of how to make vids.

I have a lot of respect for [livejournal.com profile] counteragent. She doesn't make a huge amount of vids, but when she does they are always a powerhouse of visuals and meta. She an intelligent vidder who challenges the viewer and makes strong statements with her vids.

I adore [livejournal.com profile] el1ie's work because it's always so full of heart. She has a integrity that I always admire. And, because I have been privileged to be in on her thought processes while making a vid, I know how much thought she puts into them.

Others include: [livejournal.com profile] maichan who has probably been one of my biggest inspirations (yay crack!), [livejournal.com profile] starrylizard, who makes wonderful vids, full of energy and life. Every vid is refreshing and often quirky. Of course [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c always makes wonderfully entertaining vids. She's probably best known for those but there's one vid of her's (a tribute to Kim Manners), that is up there as one of my all time faves. It's stuck with me ever since I watched it. Oh and [livejournal.com profile] killabeez!

Argh. There's so many more. There's a few You Tube vidders I follow who I love (smokeyfizz for example) and then there's a cohort of vidders that I mostly admire and respect from afar - like luminosity, obsessive24, bradcpu, heresluck, giandjakiss. And many more!

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-vid.

I'm probably most comfortable vidding feel good or crack-ish vids. I love vidding to a good beat, so action vids s some of my favourite to vid also.

19. How many times do you usually revise your vid before posting?

Omg! So many times! Even after my beta has given it the thumbs up I go over and over it and tweak the tiniest thing. Things that no one would even notice. I get nervous after a vid has been finished so I procrastinate by tweaking bits of it until I'm totally sick of it.

15. Do you work mostly from start to finish, or do you vid sections out of order?

I'm a start to finish kind of vidder. I have rarely created a section later in a song and then worked up to it. I've tried doing that, but it makes me twitchy. I've also discovered that I HAVE to have the opening segment completed before I can really start. Even if it's just the opening titles. It seems to help me set the feel for the vid and is a good way to keep me focused on the type of vid it's going to be. I usually spend the most time on the beginning of a vid.

16. Do you use any tools, like clip notes or storyboards?

I used to be quite meticulous in my note taking prior to making a vid. I still do write quite a bit down before I start, but not nearly as much as I used to. I usually print out a copy of the lyrics with huge spaces between lines so I can write done ideas for clips. I sometimes write down my own interpretations of the lyrics - ones that will work for the vid, so I have an idea of what I'm trying to say. That's mostly for story vids, or character studies. I don't do that for action or crack vids usually - they just build up as I go. I usually like to have a solid idea of what I want to do with at least 70% of the song before I start it - I'll either just visualise it or write it down.

8. Which vid was the hardest to make?

Hands down Violence and Sex is still the most difficult vid I've made. I had an idea of what I wanted but just never seemed to be able to pull it together like I wanted to. I worked on it FOREVER and still wasn't 100% happy with it. It is AU, wincest and had effects I hadn't used before. So yeah, hard.

5. Share one of your strengths.

Hmmm…probably my beat work? I particularly like matching in-clip movements on a beat.

6. Share one of your weaknesses.

I possibly think the beat work is a weakness also. I've looked back on vids and feel that sometimes there's just too much editing or movement on a beat. Sometimes I know I need to just let a few go so it slows down the action a bit. It can become too repetitive I think.

17. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?

My show! Seriously, the show is still my muse. Nothing makes me want to vid as much as it does. In fact, I worry that when the show no longer holds my interest (or I've grown out of it) I might not vid any more. I've already slowed down considerably - (which is probably a good thing!). Though I love editing so hopefully I'll find other things things that capture my imagination. :)

33. Talk about a comment or review that made your day.

All reviews make my day! Though reviews that pick up things in the vid I was hoping would come out is always nice. But I suppose the most amazing review I ever got was from [livejournal.com profile] crystalsc many many years ago. Remember when Supernatural Video Station was going strong? She left a review for Hurt there that blew me away. It was long and detailed and very complimentary. It made my day back then and the memory of it still does. :)

2. Is there a genre or style you've yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Hmmm, I suppose something I'd really like to try my hand as is meta. Fandom meta in particular. It feels like such a huge subject though and I also worry about where to even begin - but it's something I'd love to try. And I'd REALLY love to make a Lord King Bad vid. When made well (which is the irony of them really), they are hilarious. I'm sitting on "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "I Would Do Anything For Love" as a song choices. One day!

Your vids are always amazing and I really liked reading the answers to these questions. I don't know anything about vidding so even the idea of starting with what you want to say and that you write it out is cool to know. I like the idea of the lyrics with big spaces around them to write ideas by. That might come in handy for me to think about for other things. Do you usually have a song in mind first or an idea for what you want to do and then find music that fits? And The Wind Beneath My Wings just cries out for a crack vid with angels as well as the epicness of SamnDean.

I get my Dvd for the season this week and I'm holding out watching the gag reel and Misha's thing because that and the interviews they supposedly did with Jerry Wanek about the bunker are why I bothered to buy it this season. I'm hoping there will be some deleted scenes that might help with some of the eps too. I don't really think I'm going to watch too many of the episodes again. My kid loves the Oz one though so there is that. Just a few more weeks til S10 and I'm sort of /o\ and \o/ at the same time.

Hey hun. Thanks for reading. :)

Do you usually have a song in mind first or an idea for what you want to do and then find music that fits?

I love it best when I have a song first. I love hearing a song and just knowing the kind of vid I want to make with it. It's much harder for me to have an idea and then go looking for a song (like, I want to make a vid of the green cooler (of all things!), but I can't think of a suitable song. So, I'll wait until I hear I randomly one day…;D)

Good for you for holding out on the gag reel and Misha's thing! I would have busted by now! Misha's thing is one of my fave things ever to come out with the DVDs. A classic already me thinks. I will have to keep an eye out for it here - I'd like to listen to the interviews and any episode commentaries.

I liked the Oz one too I seem to remember. Actually, I'm thinking of doing my favourite Top Five episodes of S10 - so I can mentally go over past eps and remember what I did actually like. I know there was some stuff...

Songs for the Green Cooler sounds like required poetry reading for freshman lit class. I have no idea what to even suggest but that's a fun one to mull over.....It probably depends on whether the cooler is a metaphor for some form of permanence or loss of home and kitchen and parents or 'gee it's really hard to find good seating and keep your beer cold at the same time when you're fixing a car'. I was going to say that 'gee it's really hard to find good seating when you're squatting' but that just sounded really wrong......

You know, this is EXACTLY they style of song I was linking of. Something that would work with them in those situation with the cooler (by the side of the road manly). Now it would need to include the Impala as well, because this makes me think of all the times they are all together.

And hee - Little Green…:) Thanks hun! Might mean I'll do this one (time permitting!)
