Something I'm curious about…(S11)
Feb. 20th, 2016 10:38 amI was going to tweet this, but then remembered twitter is awful for conversations. Or even just making a potentially controversial statement.
So I'll put it in my fave place to post stuff. :)
I'm seeing a lot comments around the place that having Lucifer out of the cage disregards (whitewashes, demeans, trivialises etc) Sam's story line in S5. That the current storyline means that everything Sam did back then was for nothing.
I'm not clear why this is the sentiment? Nothing changes about what happened in the past. That will always be part of his storyline - and he'll always be the character that did that.
Lucifer being out now is merely a current storyline for the show. I totally accept that people are not liking it (for many various reasons), but what's happening now seems to be in conjunction to what happened back then - not totally aside from it (?).
I'm not asking whether it's a "good" storyline (I know there will be a heap of different reactions to that kind of question *g*) but simply asking why Sam's past storyline has diminished because of the current one?
(Note: This shouldn't need to be stated - because I think you guys know me well enough by now - but I'm not asking this to pick a fight. I am genuinely curious. Perhaps I am missing something that many others are seeing?).

Date: 2016-02-21 11:33 am (UTC)I really do hope that it's Sam who defeats Amara. I'd love to see him save Dean (and the world again). And yes, there's always the possibility that Amara will squash the oh so arrogant Luci like a bug. After all, it took much more than him to lock her down in the first place.
I honestly think the second half of the season is going to focus a lot more on Dean and Amara and I'm cool with that. We've still only seen glimpses of her power, and of their bond, plus they've only hinted at her end game. I think the whole Dean and Amara thing is about to become far more prominent. I don't think we have to worry about Sam being shunted into the background though. Regardless of how they do things, Sam is going to have to play some sort of pivotal role in her demise as Dean can't. Yet again, it better not be friggin' Cas.

Date: 2016-02-21 02:14 pm (UTC)Hmm, I'll have to re-watch that bit. The feeling I got on first watch is that he couldn't believe what Cas did and then that Cas might not fight Lucifer because he knows they will need him to beat Amara (apparently! I still have no idea why they think he would definitely be able to defeat her. And at what cost?).
It would be wonderful if they could actually manage defeat the big bad and NOT jeapodise the world in doing so. But then, it wouldn't be SPN if that happened!
I would love to see Sam be the one to defeat Amara. I have no idea how that will happen mind you, but I really hope he has a major role. I have a feeling Crowley will be playing a part in getting rid of Lucifer. Again, not sure how, but I reckon he'll play a part.
