...I have the perfect opportunity to vid but just can't face it.. *sigh* (Yes, I am pathetic when I am sick).

Anyway, speaking of vidding...

I've shelved another completed vid. Which is a little bit of a bummer but I'd rather that then post something that needs a lot more work and something that I would be unhappy with. Not that it was meant to be any great shakes, more a visual essay, but *meh* didn't really work.

But, all wasn't lost I suppose because something nice happened. To start the tale I need to mentioned that in a previous post about the music in the final moments in the final episode, [livejournal.com profile] zimshan linked me to her post on the music they often play for Dean's more tragic moments in the show. The ones where they want to tug on your heart strings just that bit more. "Dean's Theme" as it were. Annnnyway. I decided that I'd like to use that piece of music for the vid. And went searching. And searching. I thought maybe a score might exist for the show. Well, if it does I couldn't find it. I was on the verge of giving up when I thought I'd try You Tube. I typed in "dean's theme" and would you believe someone had actually arranged the music, recorded it and posted it.

I contacted the owner and asked if she'd mind me using it for a vid and she was more than happy to (and yes, I know she doesn't hold the copyright, but I thought it was polite to ask as it was her playing it).

I made the vid but then informed her that I wasn't going to post it, which saddened her but then she said "If you ever what to use it please feel free. I can even do another arrangement for you if you'd like it done differently".. !!!! How awesome is that?! Now I want to make a vid JUST so I can take her up on the offer. :D

People are nice. Well, mostly. My curiosity got the better of me and I checked out that anon (hate) meme thread that seems to do so much harm. Honestly, the flisters I see being hurt by that just makes me want to shake something. I get that peeps might want to say something anonymously about the show. But to pick on actual fans?! *sigh* It makes no sense to spend that kind of energy bitching about someone. I suppose they see it as entertaining. :(((

Now, on a positive note. I've mentioned listening to podfic before. I love 'em. It's kinda the busy persons way to read. I've just listened to [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck read her own fic and WOW! Not only awesome story writing, but her voice. *guh* Amazing how well her voice suits her style of fic. Fantastic.

If you are at all interested in having a go at podfic, here's a great site: audiofic. You can search by pairings, fandom, reader - all sorts. There are links back to the original fic, so you can check out the ratings, summary etc. Also, links to leave comments to the reader and the author.

Readers I recommend: [livejournal.com profile] emeraldsedei, [livejournal.com profile] chemm80, [livejournal.com profile] pandarus (FayJay) and of course [livejournal.com profile] candle_beck and I almost forgot [livejournal.com profile] sadcypress She's amazing too.

There's nothing quite like listening to filthy hot porn on a plane and then (and this happened flying both ways) the person next to you takes out the bible and starts reading. Hmmm.

Now I think I'll just curl up and die. Argh. I hate being achy and sick.

Oh damn for shelving the video, but as I told you before it's really good that you *know* when you have to do that, instead of producing stuff you are not happy with. Maybe you'll pick it up eventually!

C_B's podfic was the ONLY one I ever downloaded and listened to, as I don't like listening to fic...clearly I had to make an exception with her 'cause I have a big crush. I think her voice is very fitting to what she writes indeed, but I only listened to one minute or so. :)

Oh so that's Dean's theme? I like it too, I think in the show it's always played at the piano right? I wanted to try it out on my piano too, because it's pretty simple but very pretty.

The sad part is I didn't really recognise that it wasn't working. I needed my betas to tell me./o\ Usually I then work on the vid to iron out the kinks, but I suppose my heart just isn't in it. So yeah, I can't post it when I've been told it's not really working. (though 2 said it was and 2 said it wasn't - strange how I take more notice of the 2 that said it wasn't...).

I think I may have fallen in love with C_B's voice! I mean I've listened to a lot of podfics now and each reader brings something to the text. There's only been one reader that I couldn't actually listen to. Which was a shame, because I really wanted to listen to the story. But yeah, it took a little getting used to but I'm totally hooked on them now.. :D

Oh so that's Dean's theme?
Yeah. I recognised that piece of music in the finale but didn't realise how many times it had actually been used. I think it is usually played on the piano. Not sure, I think I'd have to listen again. Zimhan has dl's available.

*huggles*

OH, honey, I'm sorry to hear you're under the weather!

Thought a few times about the audiofic you'd mentioned. Shoulda known it was CandleBeck! Any story in particular?

There's one called Queensguard by Aramuin which I just love to death! It's J2, but I always substitute Dean and Sam in my mind, 'cos Real Person makes me squirm a bit. Anyway, this story is bloody brilliant! It's AU, with touches of realness. Have you listened to The Incestuous Courtship of the AntiChrist's Bride by Fleshflutter? Writing is sublime!

Be better!

Yeah - being sick sucks. Been to the doc today and he said it's part of the flu strain. The only symptom is a deep, deep ache and bone weariness. Unghhh.

The first one I listened to was Welcome to Fog City. I'm just listening so some others now. Any would be awesome I reckon.

I saw Queensguard but I noticed it has a heap of different readers - I wasn't sure how that would be. But if you recommend it I'll give it a go. It took me a while to read J2 - but now I am so hooked. Mostly the stories are just great original fics, with the J's name. Because basically that can do what ever they like with the characters. Restraint is an amazing example of this.

Oooh and I'll check out the ff one. I have so many of her fics I want to read but just don't have the time. I'll def check it out if it's a podfic.

Thanks hun! :D :D

Hurrah! Oh, yay - delighted you're enjoying the podfics! Hope you like ICotAB and/or Queensguard if you try them - the latter is actually mostly me, but the format of the story included sections of 'found text' stuff at the start of each chapter, as world building - snippets of radio discussions, or text books, or interviews with witnesses, that kind of thing, so I rounded up a load of volunteers to read those sections. It was the most complicated thing I'd ever done, because generally I just edit as I go along, rather than having to mess around with cutting and pasting and adjusting volumes and all kinds of crazy. But I was really happy with the end product. Um. Although ymmv.

Er, sorry, sorry - we return you to your regularly scheduled LJ. (But yay! Delighted you're enjoying the podfic! Thank you!)

Oh hey, you're around...:D

I'm glad to have been rec'd Queensguard. Looks awesome. (I took a peek at the text). Having all those different readers makes sense now - what a great thing to do. I'm itching to get started on that one now...:) You know how much I love your readings. (cannot WAIT for Restraint to be ready to start listening to again. I've been tempted to read it but I think I would actually prefer to listen to you read it!)

I am SO sorry you're sick but very glad you have the day to curl up and hopefully not die. And I do hope you get back to that vid sometime when the inspiration overtakes you.

Thanks honey. Been to the doc and he reckons it's part of a flu strain. So more sick days. :(

It's unlikely I'll go back to that vid... though I wouldn't mind using the piece of music at some stage. I have plenty of other vid ideas to play with..:D (Damn, hopefully they will work!).

Thanks honey. Doc reckons it could be about 4 days... urgh! The upside is I get to catch up with some reading and maybe some vid watching. I've seen your recs and I've been wanting to check them out!

OMG! :D *dies of laughter*

Hee! And I know. The first time it happened it made me smile, the second time I wondered if they could actually hear what I was listening to! :D

OMFG! I have TOTALLY thought of doing this but didn't know that anyone else had! Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! heehee I usually like to lay in bed and read fanfic but my hubby complains that the glow of my ipod bothers him. Maybe I can just listen instead. Woot! *hugs*

Oh you definitely have to give them a go! It's such a good way to get through some fic. I usually listen to them when I'm in the car - or waiting for something. And yes, I've listened to them in bed as well. Check out that site, because it gives you such a great way of searching for fic according to what you like.

Have fun! :D

I'm sorry to hear you shelved that project, but I'm sure you had good reasons.

Gah, I wish I had time to work on ANY project besides making my new place livable. I have that BB art draft deadline looming and I haven't even started on the second fic. EEEP!

Moving house is soooooo huge. There's always so much to do, so I don't envy you with having BB art on top of all that - and you're doing 2?!! *bows down* Good luck. <3333

Sorry the vid didn't turn out as you wanted, and that you're not feeling well. Though maybe the two things are connected. That's so amazing that someone's put together that theme. Fans are creatively awesome (socially, sometimes not so much).

Not only awesome story writing, but her voice. *guh* Amazing how well her voice suits her style of fic. Fantastic

I agree. As it happens the very first fic I ever read in SPN was by candle_beck. What luck, eh? I was hooked.

HA to the plane incident :D To each their own.

I know. I couldn't believe someone did that. I was loosing hope of ever finding the music. Shame the vid didn't work out because I would like to have shared it. But as I said, maybe one day.

Oh and candle_beck was your first SPN? Great way to start. I discovered her quite late. My first one was the Butch Cassidy homage... which was just amazing.

I believe I view the vids I make differently than many other vidders. I look at them as "pop songs" that go out the door, have a little fling with viewers, and then settle down for an occasional viewing in the future.

I've never gotten too attached to anything I've done. it's always on to the next one.

This definitely sounds different than how you're feeling about your shelved vid.

Date: 2010-05-27 05:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com
Yeah. I have to be 100% sure about a vid before I post it. I mean, when I started out I didn't mind so much because I knew I was starting out but now...um.... I don't know. I suppose because I have a few people who regularly watch my vids I don't want to let them down or something. Also, I work with betas and really it's them that tell me whether something is working or not. I trust them. It's why I use them. I figure if they give me feedback that says "this really isn't working" then I should listen to that. Otherwise they'd be no point using them.

And basically, yeah, I get very attached to my vids. If I feel like I've done the best I can, then I'm much happier when I post it.

Oooh - blabbed a bit there. Vidding talk... can't help myself! :D

I can't wait to get back into it. Work ramps up every spring to a degree of not having time to do much of anything else. I imagine I'll have a couple go out shortly after it's over just to release the tension...
