BB fic recs
Jul. 9th, 2010 10:24 amI just gotta rec this..
If you enjoy good old fashion Supernatural casefics then you should check out Cross Creek by
zoemathemata I started it and could not put it down. It has everything you need (well, everything I enjoy) in a casefic - intrigue, suspense, creepy goodness, two fabulous OC's, Sam and Dean as we see them in the show (and yay S2 S&D!) AND a spooky maze.. I mean really? What more could you want. :)
I left a rather lengthy comment and I got to wondering if there's protocol or some sort of etiquette in leaving spoilers for the fic in the comment? I am sometimes guilty of glancing through the comments before reading a fic and I often spoil myself by doing so. (yeah, yeah I know - don't go snooping but I can't help myself sometimes!). So I'm wondering if it's best to try and be spoiler free when commenting in consideration to others? Or not care - which is basically what I did. I left massive spoilers in fact. /o\
And also...
If you have a *koff* slave kink (like me *g*) you could well enjoy Things We Can't Untie" by
astrangerfate. She says "more porn than plot", but I found it quite plotty. I really like the universe and scenario she's created here.
Yay for holidays and actual reading time...\o/

Date: 2010-07-09 09:54 pm (UTC)Honestly, while the comments can serve as a resource to the readers I feel they are primarily for the author. Since I only write meta, all the content would be spoilery for any current episodes, although it can be an issue if people comment with future spoilers. I also feel that meta discussions are more geared towards conversation than fic comments, though maybe writers and vidders feel differently? So if someone chooses to read comments first, I think they take their chances. After all, if one wants to talk about a twist or some other development that was well done but would be spoilery they could email the author, but how many people make that effort?
I do like reading other comments myself, but only after the fact. I find it interesting to see what people respond to, especially when they have some insight about it that totally passed me by.
Spoilers are definitely an issue when people are reccing though. I've sometimes run into an issue where I don't know quite what to say about it without spoiling the whole thing, especially if I'm trying to get across what I liked the most in the story. I'm pretty sure I've seen recs that essentially had big spoilers in the description, though if it got me to read the story at all, maybe that doesn't matter? It's a tricky question.
I definitely prefer plotty porn, so I'll give the other rec a try, too.

I agree. If I choose to read comments first (and I might if I'm unsure whether I want to read the story) I realise I take the risk of being spoiled. As I was leaving my comment for the CC author I was aware of how much of the story I was giving away and thought if anyone read this it would be a give away. But yeah - that's their problem for reading ahead I suppose.
And the second story is certainly not all porn. It really built a solid foundation for it all which made it even hotter. In fact I think I got more out of what wasn't being said. I enjoyed the world she had created for the boys.
