I've just found out that SVS (Supernatural Video Station). is closing.

This has left me in a bit shocked and a little teary. It's such sad news.

I mean, I totally get it. The lovely [livejournal.com profile] dazzelbug has been running it for all these years and I suppose a time would always come she would no longer want to maintain and run it. It takes a lot of work and dedication. She's done an amazing job, along with [livejournal.com profile] loner_sock and the moderators over the years.

It's sad because this is the place my vidding grew up with. I remember posting one of my very first vids there and receiving helpful concrit. It gave me the confidence to continue vidding. I remember how I felt when I got my first Gold Award and won my first challenge. I remember being asked to become a Moderator and how nice that felt. I learned such a lot by being a mod. Stuff I will never forget.

And I'll never forget the great time I had.

I also made some very dear friends there. I know they aren't gone (in fact so many of them are here *hugs them*), but it feels like saying goodbye to a friend.

*sniff*

So long SVS. Thanks so much for EVERYTHING. You were are a big part of my vidding life. :(

I'd heard of the site but I don't know as I'd ever been by there. I remember though that early on in the Buffy fandom I came across their video database, which is how I came across a ton of vids. It closed after a while and then took some time to reopen at a new address. I had been really sad about that as it seemed to me to be such an important site for the fandom's history. It was a thankless job, I think, as vid links expire so quickly (and this was before streaming) but just knowing what had been made and all the contributors had been useful.

One consideration is asking the Internet Archive to back up the site. That way useful files and discussions might still be able to be searched.

an important site for the fandom's history.

I think this is why it's become quite emotional for me. I might just be being a bit sentimental. But it's the memories of the place as well as the info and history that's important.

One consideration is asking the Internet Archive to back up the site.

I think they might be doing that. There was mention that if we needed anything off it we could ask. I sincerely hope it just isn't all deleted. I suspect it hold a lot memories and info for Kayla (the owner).

Thanks hun. I suppose with anything fandom it is somewhat transient.
