First up... Yo dudes! I'm too cool for school! Yep! I'm vidding a rap song. Who'd a thought?! That's the joy of auction vids. Never know what ya gonna get. Fun... but holy crap, probably the fastest beat editing I've ever done... I might go a bit crazy in the process. *koff* well, more crazy.. :)
Episode reactions: I'm probably going to post regular reactions to SPN episodes this season. I started doing it last season and found that I enjoyed the interaction. Having said that I make a HUGE disclaimer that I may well change my mind to anything I might say as my immediate reaction because I'm completely open to having my mind changed by reading well thought out meta or any arguments or points any one else makes. That's what I love about fandom and my gorgeous flist. I love discussion. I can be talked around. I knew I couldn't make my mind up about that last episode and you all helped me see some things I didn't pick up on on first viewing (though there are some episodes that my mind cannot be turned around on *koff* swap meat *koff*.)
The last episode is a perfect example.
MY GOD! The meta on that episode has been awesome and I love that people can think in ways that I probably never will on any sort of immediate reaction. My immediate reaction was that I DID NOT WANT that to be really Sam. I wanted that to be possessed Sam, or something. But now. Now, I will be seriously disappointed if that wasn't Sam. It's makes so much sense that he would be like that. My love for Sam and that episode has increased 10 fold. And for Dean. God I love that man!
Art rec! by
mini_shadow There are three works of art here. They are all wonderful, but Western Winchesters get me every time. *guh*
Fic rec! by
standing_fic This. This is perfect and just so right. It's helped make sense of so much in the Supernatural universe over the lasy 5 seasons. *hearts* it so much. And John is perfect. <33
Meta rec!" by
bardicvoice. This was rec'd to me and I have to pass it on. It makes SO much sense of 6.01. And it's one of the reasons for my change of heart toward this episode. It's absolutely terrific.
Change of topic..
I have now watched 2 episodes of Hawaii Five-0. And I LIKE!! Especially as wee!Sam made an appearance in the last one. How awesome is that child?! I'm totally warming to these characters. I'm loving the dynamic. And who can knock back some eye candy?! *g* But wow, Hawaii would be such a dangerous place to visit... (bit like Midsommer..)
Last thing. Just finished 3 seasons of The Sentinel. \o/ Can anyone point me in the direction of some gen h/c fics by any chance?
*hugs* I'm on holiday \o/, so I'm likely to spam you a bit over the next week or so.

Date: 2010-09-30 09:49 am (UTC)A. Buying the very likely theory that his experience in the cage was different to Dean's Hell experience - ie vastly more psychologically scarring - the amount of time he spent in the cage would not remove that life long empathy he has for what it's like to live without your brother when you are a Winchester.
B. Given how firmly they've established over and over and over again how bad it is for them to be separated I'm struggling to believe Sam making this decision to not tell Dean. They also affirmed many times over that they cannot escape their lives as hunters - something always comes back. So why both Sam and Bobby thought for a second (however ridiculously optimistic it was of them) Dean could have that normal apple pie life is beyond me.
C. Irrespective of his time in Hell Sam cannot just sit there and state "I wouldn't have." when it comes to killing monsters and saving people. Not even as an automaton in Mystery Spot would he have thought about the risk to his own neck before trying to kill a monster and maybe save some civillians. This point for me is the most disheartening when I think about the premiere. I can handle the rest - I'm seeing the round about rationale for not telling Dean - it is a story telling device regardless - but the whole Sam being cautious about risking his neck for others is completely untenable and I'm not buying it for one second. Gamble better fix this quick!
All that said I am indeed looking forward to the next one. And if there is still not a single tiny little sign of Sammy I'm writing a letter! Just to say I did. *g*
Happy Holidays!

Date: 2010-09-30 01:17 pm (UTC)And Sam saying he wouldn't risk his own neck is indeed quite ridiculous, because he has never been like that. But for me this is such a clear indication of how out of sorts he is. I like bardicvoice's take on this. The idea of a loss of memory to a time when he was like that. He just doesn't see himself like that any more. Doesn't mean he isn't, he just doesn't believe that of himself. SO sad. He is so far away from the Sam that we know, I just hope we do get the explanation for this at some stage. And once he starts to acknowledge is (which he will because Dean will help him *g*), we will see a slow return to the Sam we know and love.
(and I'll co-sign the letter if we don't begin to get a glimmer of Sammy soon...!!)
Thanks hun. I am still extremely nervous for the next episode. As much as I can appreciate why Sam might be the way he was in that episode, I will be hoping to get more about it in the next one.
*hugs*

Date: 2010-09-30 02:15 pm (UTC)I totally am with you on reserving your right to change your mind about episodes. I've done that a few times myself. And definitely with this last episode. Reading others' metas on episodes can definitely cause me to think about an ep in a new way.
And I loved seeing Colin Ford in H5-0. Enjoying enjoying the character dynamics overall as well. (And well, eye candy.)

Date: 2010-10-01 12:04 am (UTC)In the past writing reactions worried me because I was sure I would probably change my mind after getting some further insights, but I figure that's ok now. SPN is a show that's not usually clear cut and sometimes takes some thinking about. :)
And Colin is awesome. I'm really looking forward to watching his career unfold. He's already done quite a lot of stuff and with a face like that (I swear I see puppy eyes every time I see him) he'll go far.

Date: 2010-09-30 05:00 pm (UTC)Take a look at K.Ryn's fic. She's a gen writer and usually a little h/c creeps in. Start with Judgments and work your way down from there. http://www.brothersinarmsfiction.com/kryn/index.html
I'm go glad you like those two!

Date: 2010-10-01 12:08 am (UTC)Oh and thanks for the link! That's awesome.
(And yay Jim saving Blair after he died!) Oh those 2 are just gorgeous. They just need to stop attempting to get it on with other women (as it always fails) and just be happy with each other...;)

Holiday sounds great!! \o/ spam away...

Holidays are MADE OF WIN!! I was going to do some photo spamming, but they didn't turn out so well.
Oh well. Just have to find something to blather about. Actually I want to host a vidding discussion about vid content, viewer hits and comments etc but I'm struggling to work out how to word it all. If I can get that together that'll be next. :)

Could you bottle that opinion and distribute in widely? Because MORE people need to be rational like that. Drives me nuts how in some fandom places a "I hate it because I hate it and therefore it's horrible and if you can not see how horrible and hateworthy it is I will sincerly doubt your sanity" attitude prevails.

Hee. But yeah, I get a bit disheartened when I read "I hate this and no matter what anyone else says I won't be moved on it". I get that we are passionate. I certainly am, but I also like to take into consideration what other people are saying because new perspectives can be refreshing. I especially like it if I've hated an episode or hated something that they did on it (like make Sam so cold and distant) and the reading has helped turn me around. Because really, I much rather love and enjoy the show than hate it.
Ooops.../ranted. :)
Thanks. :)

(Pardon my bad English. I'm pretty outside from all 'social networking' things and still haven't got the hang of how to chat on LJ either. But I know what a rec is! *can't help but blush* )
