Once, in 6.02. You should watch the clips, though, it's at the start of the episode. I remember he threw the wrapper in the bin in a hurry but I don't rememeber if he was eating it. Also, in 6.06 when Dean is over the phone with Bobby telling him that he can barely get into the car with Sam (sorry, it makes me lol so much), Sam is at the stand buying hotdogs -- I think.

I can't be your beta, bb, unfortunately. I need to go now. But I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Ah, well there goes that theory. I may have done a little jig if he hadn't slept OR eaten so far this season.

And I'm not even sure WHAT it is I've come up with. Pretty damn silly is all I know..

Yes, he was eating while on the phone to Bobby? I think it was...he turns and chucks the papers/remains in the trash? It's somewhere anyway.

How he gets out of ropes that Dean tied though, when he couldn't get out of those Veritas put around him, I'm very puzzled...actually to tell the truth, I'm just confuzzled as hell all around with the no sleeping and the soul and the body and mothers in general and exactly who did or did not open the cage...

Yeah, apparently he was. I can't check at the moment, which is a shame because it might have been interesting if he hasn't been sleeping OR eating. So there goes that theory.

Hee! Yes the whole thing has been deliberately misleading it think. Getting out of the ropes is so weird. Why then and not as you say with veritas? I would say so dean doesn't find out but then he does it in front of dean anyway. Maybe he genuinely just got himself free.

If I go ahead with this rather silly post I might include that though. (I am trying to look for evidence that Sam is on the up and up. I admit to be having some trouble with that).

Oh, I look forward to it as I admit there's too much going on and perhaps so far too little information for me.

So far I'm going with Crowley bluffing and Sam's soul still in the cage. Samuel wasn't in Heaven but Purgatory and whoever is in charge over there - (Mother Nature??) brought Samuel back.

But you know what they say about my theories and buses don't you? There'll be another along any minute now!

Ahhh - so Crowley is just saying that eh? I can absolutely believe that - but I do wonder if Sam's soul is actually in the cage. I mean, there's nothing much to suggest it isn't but man -- that's a hell of a long time to be down there. If his soul is retrived from there that will be a Sam that's even more messed up that he is now. Ack! I don't think I could cope. (Though at least it would be all Sam!)

Hm... Mother Nature?? Not heard that one yet. Mothers have been mentioned a lot, so could well have something to do with it.

Unless of course it's God and God is a woman. Hee! That would add a new spin to things...

Hee, I've been thinking again haven't I? Always a bad idea.

But yeah, Crowley only died in the 16th century, a baby as far as a lot of demons must go, so I'm thinking he's bluffing about being king AND about having Sam's soul which is still in the cage, hopefully as Castiel say's Michael is still in there too, then maybe, just maybe Michael can somehow protect Sam? OR, maybe a human soul can't be put back into a body, maybe it has to be nurtured back to life?

I've no problem with Crowley having the juice to re-animate Sam's body, which fell through the cage as it's not designed for bodies, I think that's well within his power, but I am re-thinking Samuel. If purgatory is up for grabs, maybe an angel on one side of the civil war has the same idea? Balthazaa was collecting souls, maybe the price of purgatory has something to do with that and he put Samuel back down on earth to keep an eye on Crowley and Sam?

God IS a woman though isn't she? Mankind's just always got the pronouns all befuddled...

Yeah - the heavenly war going on plays a huge part in all this. And no way Crowley would have the juice - I think him working for an archangel is plausible - and given the war and everything highly likely.

Sam might well be a pawn in all this. (goes against what I'm about to put forward in my next post mind you... /o\)

I mused in a post a bit back that it would be interesting if a soul could be nurtured back. Re-born as it were. It would take some doing though. Take a lot of time I image. But if anyone could do it for Sam it will be Dean.

It's mild Sam/Dean (not sure if you're into that) but it's gorgeous. Might even be another possibility.

Above all I would love it if Dean is the one to get Sam's soul back. Sam wasn't allowed to be the one to rescue Dean from hell, but maybe Dean will be allowed to rescue Sam from there. Or where ever he is...

Thanks for the rec, I've not been reading much at all lately and although I usually stick to gen, I love the idea of Sam/Dean and some authors can really convince me and others don't - it's a very fine line with me, that push that tips them utterly over the edge, but recs are always nice to have and I'll definitely try it.

One of these days I'm going to have to try my hand at a slash vid, I skirt around the issue, I have the song and everything, just not sure I have the conviction in my heart to transcribe it to visual - but you never know, one of these days...

Maybe the thing with the ropes was just to show that Sam was cooperating with Dean voluntarily, as opposed to against his will. I'm not sure I saw it as a sign of super-human strength or anything like that.

Yeah. It was just weird the way the films those ropes falling away. I mean, he was working on them, so it makes sense that he could have just freed himself.

And yes, apparently he has been seen eating. (boohoo, I thought I was on to a winner there!! *heh*)

Also... have you read any posts that support Sam being simply Sam without a soul? As in - it all makes sense now because if Sam has no soul it explains the way he has been.

(Sorry to ask that of you. I'm on the hunt for just such posts...)

Hmm... I have to think about that. I've been avoiding certain topics in meta because I'm finishing up a story and didn't want to be unduly influenced by other people's ideas.

I was home sick today, so I did re-watch all the episodes this season (skimming through the boring/disgusting parts) and Sam's character is much more consistent than I thought he would have been. Jared is rocking this soulless thing, in my opinion. :)

I'm really happy to hear that on rewatch it's consistent. I haven't rewatched it as such, but I felt that it has been pretty consistent. Mysterious though..and that's what I'm kinda playing with.

THAT is the crazy pickle in all this. Haven't we like NEVER actually seen Sam take an actual bite of food in his mouth for five full seasons? With food yes, but never actually the process of eating like Dean. And now in 7 eps, already at least 3 or 4??? I DO NOT GET IT.

Well it's a conspiracy I tell you!! I was all ready to claim Not-Human-Sam because he hasn't eaten or slept this season and wham! Seems like he's eaten more than before... ^sheesh*

They need to give us more to go on here...

He definitely took a big bite of that sandwich (Dean style) then tossed the rest in the trash when he was ready to go on a lead Samuel just gave him.

As for the ropes, he had a knife with Veritas so why bother untying. I also think he got out of the ropes tied by Dean because they loosened as he was pulling against Cas's probing.
