Come on! You know you've heard a song or had an idea for a vid so why not leave it in a comment and see if a vidder might pick it up. You never know...
IDEA...
Now. Speaking of inspiration I need you all to TALK ME DOWN because I had this wee little (stupid) idea pop into my wee little (stupid) brain and even though I know this couldn't really work I need someone to confirm it for me. Otherwise it will fester and then somehow, actually happen...
I don't think I've ever seen this (for a damn good reason I suspect...)
But. You know how we have comment fic - people leave prompts and authors go away and write awesome stuff..weeeellll... could it ever happen that we have a comment vid meme. Where peeps leave prompts and vidders go away and make a vid...??
I am aware the problems (and hence stupid idea...) : vids take a long time to make, there aren't that many vidders around who would take on such a challenge etc. BUT! IF we had enough vidders show interest it could possibly, maybe work. (??) I'm pretty sure they'd be enough prompts but would there be the vidders to make them..?! It would be kinda cool to have a some vids around from fan prompts.
So tell me... (vidding flisters especially).....potential? Multi fandom? Vidlets? Or have I just had a glass too many tonight../o\

Hee... and I only want to be talked down if this is me have a ridiculous idea whilst somewhat tipsy..:)
I just don't know what the interest would be. If there were enough vidders saying "I'd be in"... then just maybe...

Wacky ideas off the top of my head to potentially increase participation. (They may be easily shot down, but hey - that's what brainstorming is all about!)
Feel free to ignore all those ideas! Just take it as a sign of enthusiasm! After all, look what happened with your "wee little idea" for

Date: 2011-07-21 12:43 pm (UTC)And that's how I am. I actually really love the idea but really have doubts about whether it would work. I know people have ideas for vids (same way they have ideas for fics) so it would be great to honour that. But it would only work if vidders came on board.
And you'd be so GOOD at picking up a prompt. If this ever goes ahead I am so going to tackle you to the ground to make one... :D

Date: 2011-07-21 12:51 pm (UTC)I like the idea of the vids being itty bitty vidlets as
Reason being the idea of tackling a short vid seems easier to attempt than a full length vid. Less pressure, theoretically should take less time to make.
And not many vidders make really short vids (that I have seen) so it may be something different to get people interested.
And shorter vids (to me) match the theme of a commentfic meme. Vidlets to comment!fic as vids are to Big Bang!

Date: 2011-07-21 01:04 pm (UTC)I love all this stuff (as you know). I really hadn't thought beyond.. "comment vid". So thank you for allowing me to tease out some ideas.
I can see that there would be a few ways it could go.
1. It could simply be like a comment fic (like blindfold) and ppl leave prompts and vidders get inspired and run with it. Make it when they can and then post.
Or
2. Vidders sign up in the first instance (then it's clear we have vidders who are interested). There's a call for prompts and then said vidders claim prompts. There's then a deadline to have a vid made by (I think this makes sure it gets made and pressure can mean good vids!) And then (maybe) dates for posting. (roughly)
Hmmm... in terms of the prompts. I think that could be open ended. For me, I prefer song prompts. But other vidders might prefer a scene, episode, quote or character prompt. So I think that might be open..
Those ideas:
1. Yes. If someone has seen a vid that fits the prompt that would be awesome. I love it when I leave a fic prompt and someone says.. this is here already.
2. Ooooh... that would be very cool. I already know where that info exists. And I am SO into helping/encouraging newbie vidders. They'd have to be able to find the post (there's a lot of newbies on YT for example...) but I do love that idea.
3. Mutli media is interesting. Concerns though that it would mostly attract art and not vids (maybe?) . There's a lot of outlets for art as it is (Big Bang and that awesome summer art challenge for example). I think my aim would be for it to be only vids.. probably..
4. The multi fandom would be do entice more vidders essentially. I don't have a finger in the mutli fandom pie but I might know enough to prompt it for MF if it came down to it.
THANK YOU sweetie. Just me typing all that stuff has helped me cement some thinking..

no subject
Date: 2011-07-21 01:36 pm (UTC)So in someways it would be exactly like a comment fic meme. Sometimes authors end up writing heaps and post it as a full fic, other times they write something that would fit in a comment.
Thanks for your input hun. <333

Re: \o/
Date: 2011-07-21 03:17 pm (UTC)But it's good to see other places to leave ideas.
It's tricky though isn't it? I think people always have these wonderful ideas, be it fic, art, vids, but then it's finding other people who have the time to make them...
That's why I wondered with a comment vid meme might work. A place to put all the ideas together and see if vidders might pick them up...

Date: 2011-07-21 04:26 pm (UTC)I like the open or multi-fandom myself - but it could work with just SPN, too. Allowing for responses to be vidlets (maybe even shorter?) would certainly be a bonus. Here are some examples of 10-20 second vid-responses to prompts - a different fandom, but I thought it was a creative way to fill a prompt. Like a teaser or something?

Date: 2011-07-21 07:18 pm (UTC)I love that idea. I really like festivids, and this sounds similar to that, but minus the (stress inducing) deadlines, and without commitment up front. I would be most interested in something that pretty much follows the comment fic format, where people post prompts and anybody can leave a vid comment. I think aiming for vidlets/short vids would encourage participation, rather than expecting everybody to do full 3-4 minute songs. I also would prefer multi-fandom prompts, just to get as many people as possible involved, but also because I get bored vidding/watching vids for the same show. (Yes, even if it's hurt!Dean vids)...
The idea to tie it in with n00b support/tutorials is interesting, too.
Keep drinking, sweetie, clearly alcohol gives you genius ideas!

Date: 2011-07-21 10:13 pm (UTC)well, I`m filling promts for (graphics and ) vids right now anyway, at hoodie_time and spn_rambleon (not to mention the vid_the_grid table I bagged just recently), almost one after the other, so of course I`d be in, tehe.
For me it would be *easy* (or not *yikes*) to fill a promt if I had a song promt (best case a song promt which includes an idea for the main topic), instead of only an idea/theme promt thrown at me. I have more than enough ideas myself, but I`m missing the perfect song to go with these ideas most of the time.
and multifandom? hell yeah, that would be awesome. I`m a multifandom vidder on a regular base, and I`m sure I`m not the only one who`s vidding multifandom.
SPN is, for sure, still my no.1 vid fandom. But from time to time some of my other fandoms (especially BSG *cough*) are taking over my vidding brain.
If asked, I`d say a vidlet is just fine, but don`t limit it to vidlets only. I don`t do vidlets, I prefer to vid loooong (because sometimes longer is better ;D)
And, I`d have no promblems working with a deadline. I do so right now with the (vid and graphic) promts I`ve offered to fill. The close to 2 month deadline the other 2 comms have in place is more than okay for me.
This kind of deadline adds just the right amount of preasure needed to get it done in a certain amount of time, but still it can be done in a decent way.
less than 2 month might be a problem, but 2 month (or more) can be done, imo.
ah well, I guess I wrote way too much, especially since I only wanted to let you know that I`d be game.

Date: 2011-07-22 02:27 am (UTC)Perhaps the length could be open to the vidder. Maybe there don't need to be rules about how long or short it has to be...
The teaser idea is interesting also. Thanks so much for your suggestions. I'll probably mull over this for a little bit..

Date: 2011-07-22 07:32 am (UTC)Yeah. I was thinking this is definitely one way to go. It would be more formal but it would mean we'd know how many vidders were interested before prompts started.
Hmmm.. then I'd really have to think about all those other options. Whether to close off prompts once a vidder has claimed etc.
I'm thinking I might form a little discussion group about this (filtered for those interested) to see if there's a good way to go about it. :)
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

Date: 2011-07-22 07:38 am (UTC)Though the more I ponder this the more I could see it (maybe) working.
Though the format it takes seems to be the issue. Most comments have been making it more "formal" - sign up period, deadline etc. But you are advocating something less stressful. Which I can totally understand.
I think my concern about that is not getting the commitment. Or vidders claiming prompts and then just not doing them because there's no time constraint.
The vidlet idea seems propular. I think vids are less daunting if they can be short. I also love watching short vids. Though it might be up to the individual vidder. Sometimes and idea is so good you want to run with it.
I'm thinking I might form a brainstorming group and see where discussions go. I think it has potential - it's just what format it should/could take.
Thanks so much for your input honey. And the hug!<333

Date: 2011-07-22 07:43 am (UTC)Thank you so much for your thoughts on this and your interest.
I think multi fandom definitely means more vidders and more prompts. More of a variety all round.
I think a 2 month deadline would be ideal also.
I am thinking though if something like this happened I wouldn't want it to clash with festivids. That starts up in September. So it would need to be either before or after. If it was after it would have to be next year. Which might be cool. Plenty of time to prepare....:D
Hmmmm..... I might do a little survey and see what the overall interest might be like. *ponders*
Thanks again. If there ends up being some interest I might form a little discussion group. Maybe you might be interested in joining in if that happens. :)

Date: 2011-07-22 12:33 pm (UTC)Those little vids are quite something aren't they? Very cool idea. And a lot less daunting then having to put together a full vid. Or even a minute one.
And festivids /o\ I couldn't even full fill my one vid promise. I'm not even going to sign up this year. I felt so bad for not making one. Especially as I received one.
And thanks hun. I'll see what they interest is. I might even end up making it very casual. Invite prompts and vidders can run with what ever they feel comfortable with.

Date: 2011-07-22 03:20 pm (UTC)Might be just me, but the difference of a comment vs fest - The only problem I see is with a comment meme is usually one doesn't claim it they just go forth and write or in this case vid, so there is a possibly of vidders being inspired by the same prompt of song/fandom and though 2 pov might be awesome 4 or 5 could be redundant.
With a fest, prompts are claimed so its not over kill. Also you don't have to have sign ups unless you really want to. I run a summer fest, and for 2 weeks have people throw out prompts. I then put the prompts on a separate post and let people claim. Each prompt is allow to be use twice then its out of play.
Hmm, writing that out I see the problem that a fest is more work & a comment-vid meme would be less. Maybe have the comment-vid style, but have vidders still claim that they're going to work on a particular prompt. This will also help vidders who don't like to repeat songs. I won a vidder in an auction and we ended up having a difficult time. She hated repetition, so if someone already used a song on UT regardless of fandom she couldn't use it- then again maybe it was her way of getting out of making a vid, as I never did get a vid from her. I stopped bidding on auctions because of that, I don't have $$ so my bids were under $50. After 5 auctions only had 1 vidder who fulfilled her commitment.
Anyhoo, I do love the idea. Of course I'm guilty that I have a ton of ideas for prompts =)
If I ever get my shit together and get the programs to rip source & learn how to vid, then I could play on the vidders side. Sigh, maybe next year ;)

Date: 2011-07-22 07:35 pm (UTC)And yes, of course I`d join a discussion group, if here is one at one point. Like said, I`m interested, and more or less in already ;D.
I really like the idea of a promt comm for vids. And since I`m doing it right now, I know filling a vid promt can be done if the idea/song fits.
oh, this would be good for lots of pretty vids *happy sigh*
About the date, this might be tricky. There`s not only festvids, but also the various BigBangs starting at one point. But I guess it wouldn`t hurt too much if it collides with one or the other. At the end, there`s only so much time during the year to do all of this.

Date: 2011-07-23 04:09 am (UTC)In the poll there was an overwhelming response to a more casual approach. Which surprised me a little but I can see that it would take the pressure off vidders.
My feeling would be that if a vidder saw a prompt and really wanted to vid it they could claim it. There could be a rule that no more than 2 claims per prompt. To be honest though, I would be surprised if people wanted to claim any that had already been snagged.
Hmm... ok. I think I'll open a filtered discussion post on this. That way this idea can been really honed and happening.
Oh and I hate hearing vidders haven't fulfilled their auction promises. It's one of my big concerns with these auctions. I've made 3 vids for auction winners - there's no way I couldn't fulfil that. In fact I feel restless until I do.
I'd really like to see this work so that people can have their prompts filled (without having to pay for it).
Thanks so much for your input. :)

Can you tell me if those 10-20 sec vids were part of a wider community of prompts? Or was it this girls way of filling a bingo card?
(Man...I love that idea so much. I just watched all those vidlets and even though I don't know the fandom I found each one engaging).
Cheers *I'm asking because I would like to link (with permission) to something like this as an example if I go ahead with the comment vid meme..)
