I don't know why this still shocks me but it does.

This person (LezraGR) has not only posted a couple of my vids but has also put their own watermark on it. They have also blocked me (and probably others) from commenting so I can't even protest it. What the...? There's a heap of other vids there, which I'm sure are stolen also.

My two (I Go to Work and When You're Smiling) were posted over a year ago but there are some recent SPN ones that I'd place bets aren't his (edit...looks like the poster is a teenage boy (?)).

*head shake* It puzzles me what these people get out of doing this. I guess when you make something public like that anyone can grab it. But it's the same as stealing someone's story.

Anyway. Not much can be done I suppose, especially if he's blocked comments. What a loser.

ETA: ARGHHH!! I just found this also. My Woo Hoo vid The thing is... he has a facebook link. I don't have Facebook. But if anyone is able to contact him there it might be worth telling him stealing is not on.

This video is NOT yours. You did not make it, and yet you have the gall to post it with your own watermark added?? And I see it's not the only one. This was made by the talented vidder ash48, as were several others you 'claim'. You should acknowledge that, and you definitely should not have added your own watermark to them.

Blasted little cheat! Even watermarking it!

Yeah, it's blocked comments on some of the vids, so it knows what it's doing is wrong and not a mistake, but I managed to get one through on the Whoo Hoo one, I expect it will remove those comments soon too. Sorry, hon, don't have Facebook, although the bloody cheek of it using your work to get people to visit it's Facebook page is almost enough for me to open one and rip it a new one. **ugh** There is nocliptheft - not sure if they're still active. On YouTube there used to be the Wall of Shame channel that would help people get stolen vids taken down, always worth a try.

Oh and I just wanted to add - apart from the comment I also "disliked" the vid on it's channel - now I LOVE your vid, it's not about the vid, I mainly wanted to leave a red mark for when it takes down the "upsetting" comments it's getting...

Oh yes... I saw that Wall of Shame channel once. I'll see if I can find it.

I also tried to "dislike" it. I think it allowed me to do that. Just not comment. Purposefully being blocked makes it obvious that they know what they are doing is wrong.

I went through a phase of adding a little "E" to the corner of my vids, haven't done it lately as honestly I don't think any of mine are in danger of anything like this! However, I know watermarks annoy some viewers, so tried to keep it as small and inconspicuous as possible, but if you do that then idiots like this will still just cover it up with a huge one of their own.

Seems to me like the "Thief Wall of Shame" channel is no more - sorry about that, hope the constant messages will get it to take them down - there's really nothing else you can do.

Yeah.. I'm in two minds about the watermark. A small one I usually don't mind. I'd prefer a completely clean vid but I can understand why people have them.

The messages have been amazing. If nothing else I think he'll get annoyed! (I've since found out he's a 17 yo boy from Greece).

I'm thinking you might want to drop a word of warning to supernaturalvid so other vidders can know that this thing is around claiming work? Hah, it may be a little Greek boy with childish manners, but that doesn't excuse it, for not only slapping it's own watermark on your vid, but going the extra distance and editing OFF your credits! How creative of it. Cretin.

That's horrid! Is there some way you can report them through youtube itself? That site is so heavily obsessed with official copyright perhaps they might do something about individual plagarism?

Hmmm... reporting is tricky because essentially the material doesn't belong to me either. Just the editing. I'm not really sure where vidders stand on that.

I think it can be flagged as spam or something though - I'll check it out.

Ugh, that is horrible. It really pisses me off that people such as yourself put so much effort and hard work into making your amazing vids and people just steal them and tries to pass them off as their own.

He's been left some messages so at least he should get the message. (I think it also shows that SPN fans look out for each other and ripping of vids will get noticed).

I have considered watermarking my vids. I'd want it to be unobtrusive though. Maybe a tiny one...

I had a look at the FB page with the vids, and the personal page linked from it. If the picture is of them, it looks like a teenage boy from Greece. I can't see any way for a non-friend to post a comment there. I don't have a YT account, but see that a number of people have commented in protest!

I completely understand why vidders would want to use watermarks, but as a viewer, I avoid watermarked vids (and grumble internally about the CW logo on the show !). I find having a logo on the screen detracts a lot from the viewing experience.

Wow.. a boy from Greece eh? Thanks for the message. With the comments on the vid and your one I hope he gets the message. (below it's mentioned that he's now blocked comments to the vid. Which means... yeah. He got the message...)

And your comment re the logo is exactly why I've never put one on. But I get why vidders do. I'd rather not but I've had about 3 occasions where a similar thing has happened. I wish there was a way of labeling it and it not being obtrusive.

In the scheme of things these stolen vid posts don't seem to get that much attention anyway. Hmm... not sure what to do there. (Might put this question out there to the vidding community...)

Hmm, it's a tricky one, because you can't really inform Youtube about it as you yourself are infringing copyright by using clips from the show.

Hopefully they will take down the vids now they have been found out and called on it.

Yeah... it's always tricky. As vidders we claim "transformative works" under copyright so there is a legit way we can post vids. But it still doesn't mean we can claim someone as stolen something from us. And with so few view counts I'm sure YT wouldn't even care.

It's curious about the comment blocking. I think he's probably had a few negative comments in the past and started to block vids. Woo Hoo seems to have slipped through. - for the moment anyway.

And thanks honey. If for nothing else he'll realise that stealing SPN vids will mean that he'll be found out.

I left comments on the Woo Hoo one and commented to anyone who gave the vid praise and set them straight on who deserves that praise. You can still mark it as spam I believe, that would get the video taken down or report the user themselves.

I also looked at the options and nothing really fits. I'm surprised that they don't have a "but that's my vid" option considering how many vids must be posted that belong to other people. I suppose it's just too hard to police.

I don't either. I saw where someone had commented that they liked the vid and he said "thank you". I mean... how can you get satisfaction out of that. Knowing it's not your work they are commenting on.

I'm so sorry that happened. What a jerk! I had something similar happen to a few of my gen fics, so I know exactly how you feel.

You should watermark your vids too. Is there any other way to protect them? The clips might be from SPN, but the way they're combined is original and unique to you and tells a story too.
