Sometimes I miss posts. I'm not sure why but I'm wondering if it's because of the way I use LJ. I'm not sure about anyone else but I when I log on I scroll down my flist's posts until I come to the first one I can remember seeing. Then I stop there.

I know that posts are time dependent. If you work on a post and save it and post it the next day it will end up buried and the chances are no one will see it. So I figure the time something is posted needs to be absolutely current (I suspect even an hour later would make a difference to where it appears on other peoples flists).

I wonder if it's a time thing. Perhaps I should scroll down further maybe? Is there another way of "doing" LJ?

I nearly missed THIS AMAZING post re the last episode 7.16. If you love looking at the meaning of colours and FLOWERS and scenery and all that juicy stuff then you have to check out [livejournal.com profile] galwithglasses post. Looking at posts like this make you realise how damn clever our is.

I have officially cut my working hours down to 4 days a week. WOOT! I had my first day off today and it was brilliant. Sure, it mean less money but it also mean MORE SANITY. I'll take the latter any day. I know there are some excesses we can cut back on if we need to. But having a 3 day weekend is just what I needed.

Off to see This Means War at our local outdoor cinema tonight. I rather like the idea of watching a movie outside. With a picnic. With some (new *g*) friends.

SHOW TOMORROW! \o/ \o/

Concerning my flist I use LJ the exact same way. But I never save an entry to post it later- I didn't even know that LJ would put a different time stamp on it!

Congratulations on your new week schedule! Goooood decision. I work three days a week- and like you said, less money, but more time. Though I definitely wouldn't say more sanity- look what I am doing with my spare time... *gg* It's really stupid sometimes, I log in to check a certain something, and then I end up 4 hours later remembering I forgot to have breakfast. *sighs*

Hope your movie-experience was fun!

And yes, new episode. You still didn't see the trailer?

But I never save an entry to post it later-

Most of my vid posts (and definitely my picspam posts) I work on and save over time. It took a while to realise I needed to either make a new post (which I normally do) or manually change the date on the entry.

New work schedule is great. But YES! Possibly less sanity...often hours have gone by before I realise time....

The movie was a lot of fun! Great bromance. :D

I've seen the ep now... and I did resist watching the trailer (I'm glad I did!)

I used to always miss a lot of posts as well - because my friends page was so full of all the communities that i watch/join and they make a lot of posts so i would miss posts from friends.

Now, i have placed notifications so that i will always receive my friends entries in my inbox.

Thankyou for linking that post, i love knowing that there is so much stuff that goes into show -such as the background detail- that i don't notice. Show is awesome and clever.

Yay, congrats on cutting down your working hours and i'm glad it's much better for you \0/

Show tomorrow - can't wait!!!!!!

I've thought about setting up notifications on friends posts...maybe I'll do that...

Glad you liked the post. I love that kind of stuff.:)

It really has helped me keep track of my friends posts so if you do decide to set up notifications i hope they help.

LJ: Nope I do the same thing. Though its in my profile I skim through my flist - if I didn't I'd never be able to read/write anything else. I do use tracking more on friends than fic. Especially friends that don't post much just so I won't miss a post.

Personally (so far) I only use the time-stamp if I want to bury a fic (if I'm reposting something) just to spare my flist.

Yay for the extra day off- enjoy it, maybe you'll have time for that Leverage vid sometime in the near future =)

I don't use tracking much..only on comms I mod. I could use it on my flist, but I mostly hope to catch them as I scroll through.

I REALLY hope to make a Leverage vid someday. Maybe with the extra bit of time I'll get the chance...:)

See, I've noticed the exact same thing, and I browse my flist the same way you do. I've also tried making posts with changed timestamps and gotten some really funky results, so I'll be really interested in the comments made here by more informed (and more useful) responders to this post. For that matter, I'm kind of overall confused about how timestamps work on LJ anyway, regarding the time zone thing and the "local time" stamps that wind up on comments, etc.

tl;dr: Time...how does it work?

Time is really weird on LJ I suspect. I've had some funky results too. I've taken to just opening a new post and cutting and pasting anything I've been working on. I'm always curious about how others do stuff here..:)

If you have a paid account you can always use the 'filter' option at the top of the page, set it to 'friends' and just their posts will be shown, of course once you've caught up you go go back to your friends page which will include comm posts as well :D

Actually, even if you have a free account you can filter your Friends list. It's the small drop-down menu next to where it says "You are viewing your Friends page" on the upper navigation strip.

This is how I do it every night. First I filter by friends and make sure I'm not missing anything from anyone, then I filter by comms to see what's going on. If you follow many comms this is the easiest and most time effective way of doing it, IMO.

So you can filter even with an unpaid account, that's good to know as mine runs out in a month :D

I have a paid account, but my girlfriend does not. I checked her LJ right before I posted to make sure :-)

Oh cool. I didn't know this. I didn't think to filter friends separately to comms. I'll check that.

Thanks for pointing to my journal. I'm glad you liked it. They're a ton of fun to write.

Ach, the posting dates...I don't know what to do with them. It takes a couple of days to put together an entry on a show and I try to change the date to the current one when I finish but I never know how that works. Then there are the entries where I just ramble on about whatever and feel weird clogging up somebody's flist with that so I leave them dated whenever I start them and they get buried. It's so lame to be shy while posting something public under an LJ name but I'm used to trying not to be a bother in real life. Rolls eyes at self being a dork.

Ack! I hope I didn't link something you wanted hidden! (though a post like that needs to be shared because it's so COOL!*g*)

I've tried changing the time on a post that I've saved but I'm not sure it's that successful. Now I cut and paste what I've been working on to a new post.

Nope, everything's cool. The SPN stuff I hope people get to see. That's part of the fun of putting it together. The other stuff is fine too. I wouldn't make it public on here otherwise. I just don't want to clog up an flist with some of the other stuff so don't care if its post date stays older. I'm not sure that makes sense. I got up early to watch 7.17 so I'm sleepy. Way worth the early get up though.

The cut and paste idea is a good one. I'll have to remember that.

Hey ash

I'm just downloading and sitting here waiting in the middle of the night (it's 4.30am here - there's dedication for you) so I was perusing my flist and saw your post and trucked on over to galwithglasses. That is so interesting. I never see stuff like that unless someone else points it out. I'm too busy looking at Sam's hair, and mouth and... you get the picture.
I'd love to have that type of 'noticing-brain'.
Thanks so much for the rec to her journal - you are awesome, as always.

forgot to say -yeah for working four days a week. I work four days a week and have done for the last year or so and, although as you say there is an impact on the wallet, the benefits way outweight the negatives.
I get all my yukky housey stuff done on fridays like the clearning and the shopping and so on and then have all sat and sun to have fun, read and write (not doing much of that of late though).
It's made a massive difference to my quality and life and means weekends have become something more than just crashing out to recover so that I'm okay for mondays again.

four-day-a-weeking-rules!

hope you really enjoy it!

Benefits definitely outweigh the negatives! I worked part time for quite a few years after I had my daughter then I went back to full time. I MUCH prefer part time...

And yeah....mostly I like to get all that house worky stuff done...:0
