I was going to vid all these moments but it would have taken too long and I needed the therapy now, so I decided to play with caps instead. You might think between this post and the recent meta post I'm not keen on Benny and Amelia. It's not true at all. I like the introduction of them A LOT and I particularly love how each of them served to be a brother "substitute" while they were missing their other halves. And I know Dean is the bestest big brother EVER (\o/ <3), but this is about Sam being an awesome brother too. I needed to do this. ;)

This is great! And I seem to have something in my eye right now...

I really appreciate this reminder of the times Sam has been a wonderful brother, since it's easy to forget the nuances in the flood of information that's the result of more than seven years worth of canon.

I think sometimes we are reminded about all those times that Sam hasn't been the kind of brother Dean might have wanted in the show. But looking at everything (and it's not all here of course) we can see that he's not just the brother that Dean wanted but one that he also needed.

I have a friend who is a counselor, and who has told me that people are often assigned roles in dysfunctional families, and that even as years pass and people change, sometimes those roles continue to be how a family member is perceived by the others (especially when they're not around) in spite of their current actions - either positive or negative. I wonder if Show is perpetually playing with this idea with the Winchester family.

Sam was the person in the family who stirred the pot when he and Dean were younger, who John and Dean saw as causing trouble because he had a focus that extended beyond hunting. Even though I'm sure Dean consciously recognizes the good things Sam has done, I wonder if that overlay from their teen years is still an active part of Dean's subconscious reactions to Sam, and the reason that he says the things he says in Southern Comfort as well as other time.

Just a random thought, but I thought you might find it interesting.

I absolutely think this could be possible. I think the stuff possessed!Dean was saying was part of that deep subconscious - stuff he was holding onto from years and years ago (which is why I think we had one of the victims act on a jealousy that was years and years old in that episode). I actually don't believe Dean still holds those deep (deep!) feelings - he now knows from experience that it's not true.
