Spoilers! Sort of...

So I'm home sick today. Well, more like I'm just poorly with a cold. I'm snuggled up in bed with hot tea and my computer and I suddenly had the urge to play "speculation".

There's been so many spoilery comments from the actors and crew around - especially on twitter or tumblr. They've left me very perplexed (and excited actually). They don't say "this is what actually happens"- they're more like....



They're more like actors saying things about the last 5 minutes like "the end made me cry", "they actually went there", "fans are going to freak out, it's chilling and disturbing","it changes the SPN landscape" and Jensen's: “The moment the screen goes to black. The last second. There are multiple characters involved. There’s a predicament now.” and Misha's: "I was definitely shocked. I thought, ‘Can they do this?’". I've also read there's a intense brother moment also.

I can't even with all that information! Mostly, I just can't imagine anything happening that will measure that level of "shocked and disturbing" (well, maybe if they do decide to of go the Wincest route. I figure that would be pretty shocking (and surprising!) and I'm sure some would consider it disturbing also. But nah, there's no way they'd go there).

I've always thought that one brother will kill the other. It makes sense of the story line (Cain and Able) and possibly ties into the opening episode. I figured that in order to "save" Dean, Sam will have to kill him. Or that Dean is so possessed that he kills Sam.

But that all seems to obvious and not nearly "landscape changing" enough. Death of a Winchester is almost formula for a season ender, so I don't think it fits the "we've never seen this before" comment from Jared.

We've already been to Heaven, Hell and Purgatory so them all being transported to a new dimension seems off the cards also.

I can't think of who could be introduced as a new big bad. Not sure what could top Lucifer rising. Though of course God making an appearance would probably top that (especially if he looked like John Winchester ;D).

Dean could turn demonic. But I don't think that would be a huge game changer. I mean, it would set up story lines for the beginning of S10, but ultimately he'd be back to Dean Dean so...yeah. Not sure what that would achieve (other than extra hot demon!Deanness).

That's really got me scratching my head.

I'm certainly more excited about the finale than I was - if only now to find out what on earth all those spoilery comments could be referring to.

Whatever happens it sounds like we're going to need to cling to each other.

Ooooh, I think your theory has real merit! I've heard unconfirmed whisperings that Dean's eyes turn red, which means a crossroads demon (ahem, Crowley!), and we know Jensen can do a bang-up British accent...

It kinda fits! Dean will learn what it feels like to be possessed. I do wonder if that means Crowley's meat suit is totally destroyed. :/ I hope not.

My only other qualm with your scenario is that it makes Sam seem like he'll still be doing a lot of ineffectual running around and worrying, vs. actually doing something proactive of real consequence.

*nods* I don't want Crowley's meat suit to be totally destroyed either :/ I quite like the guy. Unless he does something to Dean like he did with Sam in 9x09 (or was it 9x10?) where he gets inside him for some reason? Maybe if Metatron gets him banged up badly, Crowley wants him to live so he can do his bidding, so he quick possesses him to rally him to kill Metatron with the strength he has from the Mark? I'm just thinking out loud...

Yeah, I thought about that too. The other theory I've heard is that Dean convinces Sam to kill him, that he somehow breaks through of the Mark's influence (maybe Sam actually talks him down - that would totally be doing something proactive :D) and says he doesn't want to kill/hurt anyone, so the only way is that Sam has to shoot him. And then things continue from there. Either way if Sam got through to him to break him of the Mark's influence, it'd be a cool mirror to the way Dean broke through to Sam when he was Samifer in Swan Song. I'd love to see that, but I don't know if I have confidence in TPTB to do there. Would be nice, though.

I've heard the Dean-convinces-Sam-to-kill-him theory floating around too, and it's quite likely. It fits on different levels. It will prove that Sam truly believes we have dominion over our own bodies, and he will respect that by fulfilling Dean's wishes. Also, as you pointed out, if Sam can talk Dean down from the Mark, it'll mirror Swan Song almost directly.

Sam will garner all kinds of hate from that scenario ("See what you caused with your mean words, Sam? Get what you wanted, Sam?") but that's gonna happen regardless.

I'm getting really excited for the finale, but nervous the writers won't live up to the hype in my braaaain...

Agreed. And yeah, it's the hate that Sam is likely to garner from that scenario (I have one or two extreme Dean/Destiel fangirls on my flist who I'm sure will have a meltdown - avoiding their LJs in advance to be safe, lol) that will bug me, but like you said, it'll happen regardless.

The Sam hate if he kills Dean, no matter what the circumstances, will be unbearable. So I really hope that it doesn't happen for that reason alone.
