I wasn't really taken with that episode I have to confess. I started writing up why and it sounded like sour grapes so I've decided to just say that even though it had some funny moments (Jensen and his physical comedy being a highlight) and a couple of cute bro moments (Sam ribbing Dean while watching the wrestling), overall it left me feeling pretty flat and disappointed (and a bit squicked tbh). It might be that I'm feeling flat today due to a cold, so I'll watching it again to get a better perspective (though I will have to skip the Lucifer & Crowley scenes and the torture scene *meep*)

Happy to discuss in comments if anyone wants to chat. :)

I always like flashbacks to their past. This was as heartbreaking as usual when they flash backed. Dean had "good" memories and Sam remembers a the reality of it. As much as I didn't like they way they then killed the not!john character (with that poor boy) it was a reminder that Dean didn't see any fault in John when he was young (and maybe even now?) but Sam saw the little signs that not everything was roses. I hadn't thought about that until now - that's a positive i can take away from that episode. :)

Thank you for clarifying. Now I may need to go back and rewatch this episode! I also loved Sam's sympathy for the kid. He's so good with young victims of tragedy, as of course he would be!

Also, didn't Dean wrestle in high school? I have a dim memory of his being on the wrestling team at that boys home in upstate New York.
