There's a poll re the recent FB/Twitter feature.

HERE

Will LJ listen? I suppose if enough people make their feelings known they might. They'd be wise to I reckon.

There's are lot of discontent being voiced on their announcement post also.

This link is also interesting. This shows how it could work.

Thanks for the poll, have filled it in.

It's the comments thing I'm against - if people want to cross post their own original posts then there nothing much I can do about it, but to actually cross post replies that are made in my journal or TO me in anyone else's journal or community that might include a quote by me and therefore spreading MY lj username all over Facebook and Twitter? NO.

I have asked, like nearly everyone else I know, that anyone posting in my journal does not cross post to Facebook and I totally trust my flist not to do that. But I'm not stepping foot in an open journal or community until this shit gets sorted.

Posted in the announcement post last night - I'm just so infuriated by this.

I think that poll and announcement gives a pretty good indication that it's not very popular.

And I equally have no issue if people want to cross post their own stuff to their social networking pages. I figure they probably do that anyway if they wanted to.

I just don't see LJ being anything like FB or Twitter. Each site has their own purposes. I have nothing against any of these sites. In fact I reckon they can be great fun, but I know a lot of peeps do stuff on LJ that they would prefer to keep hidden from their RL. And this just raises the potential of being found out. Plus... surely we need to have a say about where our comments should and should not be seen.

And good point about communities. This whole thing is a minefield I think.

Communities do bother me, even locked community posts, while not divulging the actual content of the post will still give out the address and username of the community and the reply would probably make it obvious what the post was about.

I've stuck something in the suggestion box over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_sceneit, which as about the only comm I post in regularly to ask if I can request that anyone getting clips off me makes sure they have the feature turned OFF before replying to me, I know I can't do anything to make them, but neither do I want my username flashed all over Facebook as someone who will clip - and I love doing those clips for people, I know it helps them out with their vids, but if they have the feature on for themselves they just might not realise how compromising it is for others.

Hope they just turn if off on all reply comments, I really don't see the need for it.

Hmm... is there something we (as in the mods) can do at sceneit to ensure this can happen? We are about to post a reminder about a few things, would you like us to add a note about turning the feature off when replying to clip requests?

Is it something the comm can do? I'm not so technical about this stuff but if we can make it safer for people posting then we'll do whatever we can.

At this time, with everything up in the air and changing, I don't think there's much you can do. The comm can't turn the feature on or off it's up to the individual poster.

A general post pointing out the problems with the feature being enabled when replying to locked posts would help I'm sure in the short term and long term in reassuring us posters that we're as safe as we can possibly be, I'm sure a lot who think the feature is a good idea haven't really thought it through for what it might entail for others.

I'm not even sure if the automatic feature is available on flocked posts or whether it's still an extra choice you have to make, but it would certainly help for the comm itself to ask posters not to cross replies and if it's ok with you guys I think for a while I would ask again on each of my clip posts - until things are more sorted, just to feel safe you know?

Thanks hon, thanks very much.

That won't be a problem at all. :)

I will talk to the other mods and see if we can make a post about it.

Cheers hon.
