So, I've been blathering about this bromance vid my muse seems determined to kill me with. I'm still not sure this will actually happen, but I am pursuing it to see how far I can go before it all becomes too hard.

Step one is confirming the bromance pairings I have.

To qualify as "bromance" I am looking for pairings where 2 males care deeply for each other. Mateship, male bonding, BBF's, platonic love (I'd sell my soul for you Sammy) kind of friendship.

These are the pairings I have so far. Thank you to everyone who have contributed to this list.

Sam and Dean (Supernatural)
Dean and Castiel (Supernatural)
Peter and Neal (White Collar)
Sherlock and John (Sherlock)
Starsky and Hutch (S&H)
Simon and Simon (S&S)
Frank and Jo Hardy (The Hardy Boys)
Bodie and Doyle (The Professionals)
Solo and Kuryakin (The Man from UNCLE)
Apollo and Starbuck (Original Battlestar Galatica)
Merlin and Arthur (Merlin)
Kirk and Spock (Star Trek)
Turk and JD (Scrubs)
Alan Shore and Denny Crane (Boston Legal)
Shawn and Gus (Psych),
House and Wilson (House),
Barney and Marshall (How I Met Your Mother),
Leonard and Sheldon (Big Bang Theory),
Jack and Tony Almeda (24),
Joey and Chandler (Friends),
Frank Pembleton and Tim Baylis (Homicide: Life on the streets),
Blacke and Avon (Blakes 7),
Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry (Alias Smith and Jones)
Chuck and Morgan (Chuck),
Vince and E (Entourage)
Charlie & Don Eppes (Numb3rs)
Fraser and Ray - Due South,
O'neill and Jackson (sg1),
Clark and Lex (Smallville S1 & 2)
Dexter and his brother (Dexter s1),
Bernard and Manny (Black Books)
Jim and Blair (The Sentinel)
Little Joe and Hoss (Bonanza)
Sam and Josh (West Wing)
Landry and Matt (Friday Night Lights)
Riggins and Jason (Friday Night Lights)
Flynn and Provenza (The Closer)
Jason and Andy (True Blood)
Don and Roger (Mad Men)
Jemaine and Bret (Flight of the Conchords)
Troy and Abed (Community)
Angel and Spike (Angel or Buffy - um, not sure which one)
Seth and Ryan (The OC)
Dan and Casey (Sports Night)
Cory and Shawn (Boy Meets World)
Hercules and Iolas, (Hercules).
Sam and Michael (Burn Notice).
BJ and Hawkeye (MASH)
Felix and Oscar (The Odd Couple)

I'm interested to know if anyone thinks that either a) there are pairings I am missing and b) if some of these don't really qualify (as in friends, but not "I'd be a lesser person without you" type of friend). I am hoping to shrink the list, so if you think any of these don't belong I'd be really interested to know.

I am also looking for the perfect song. I can actually do that part myself but if you have any ideas you know I am all ears.

Also, because of this, I have discovered a new (well, quite old now) TV show and it has become my new addiction. It's The Sentinel and I am like... JIM AND BLAIR!! \o/ *smishes*[livejournal.com profile] ancastar for the incredibly detailed info on this series. At the moment I just can't get enough.

Well, you wouldn't know it from the fandom, but Crockett and Tubbs on Miami Vice are exactly like that (the show, not so much the movie from what I hear). They're the most stereotypical buddy cops I've ever seen, and they get those ridiculous "I LOVE YOU MAN" scenes all the time whenever someone gets shot or it's a season finale or whatever.

Pretty much all buddy cops would work though.

I agree that Angel and Spike don't really qualify. They both show up on both shows. I think most of the stuff you'd want would be from Angel and not Buffy if you did choose to include them.

House and Wilson have an Odd Couple sort of thing going on when the show bothers to use Wilson for anything. Personally, I think their relationship is boring and I have no idea what fandom is on about, but people do constantly mention their bromance (including in official publicity stuff).

I second the NCIS:LA thing. The show is clearly going for the classic buddy cop bromance vibe.

If you want something historical, Master and Commander (Aubrey & Maturin), Horatio Hornblower (Horatio & Archie), and Sharpe (Sharpe & Harper) are all long on the epic bromance. Though I should probably warn you up front that the quality on the official Sharpe DVDs is absolute crap.

I wondered about House and Wilson. House is another show that I haven't really watched. Just not my genre. But quite a few people have mentioned this pairing.

OOoh - historical bromances. I'm ashamed to say I don't know any of these. I am going to (eventually) be relying on other fans footage for this vid I think I may have trouble getting stuff that isn't either readily available or have a fan following.'

Thanks again for your input. I appreciate it. :)

M&C is a movie. It should be easy to get if you want it. I know half of LJ owns copies of HH. Sharpe, as I said, has horrible-quality official DVDs, but I do own them and could get you some footage if you want it. It's The Curse of 80s TV or something. MV has a little bit of it too, though not as badly as Sharpe. Is it just me? I'm new to vidding (as in, making my first one right now--Crockett and Tubbs making calf eyes at each other to very, very overwrought music, in fact), but I have the impression that shows started using shitty film or not preserving their footage well or something after the 70s and then practices/the quality of cheap materials improved again some time in the 90s. At least, there seems to be a trend with the DVDs.

Of course! M&C I have seen and I loved it! I was thinking it was a TV show, not the fil.

I'm only looking Tv bromances at the moment. I mean, OMG have you seen my list! If I included films as well... argh..../o\

The quality of 80's TV is certainly noticeable. Though my S&H DVDs are pretty good. So is my Dukes of Hazzard ones. (Oh, there's a pairing no one mentioned!)

Oh and you're making your first vid? Yay! It's great fun yeah? I'm addicted to it myself. About to post my...um... probably 50th vid. Crazy.

Thanks once again. I'm going to be mulling over this vid for a while and then I'll be requesting footage from other vidders. Then, I'll see what happens. :)

I love Black Books, but those characters don't strike me as having anything in common with the kinds of friendships that are usually described as bromances. They do act like an old married couple, but it's more the Fairytale of New York type.

Yeah - I'm not sure about Black Books either. I mean, I love 'em and think they are great friends (in a weird way), but I think I will be after the "I would die for you for serious" kind of bromance.

My "model" is Sam and Dean, Peter and Neal, Jim and Blair, Starsky and Hutch etc. Shows that revolve around the pairing.

Thanks again. :)

Hi there.

And yes! Crockett and Tubbs I would totally agree with (TV not movie for sure... (movie was awful). I forgot about them, which is crazy because I used to love that show.

I've never watched Buffy or Angel so I have to totally go on peeps response on that.

The problem I think I have is that I know fans like to "ship" certain pairings, because of a certain dynamic but I am after a friendship that exists on screen rather than a fan pairing.

Thanks so much for your feedback. :)
