I know what I am about to do is bad form but damnit, I need to growl and grumble and just... arghhh...

So, I decided to do some "research" for my next vid (part 2 for my winning bidder). I needed to remind myself where I might find some good old fashioned Dean hitting on girls scenes (remember when he used to do that?) and basically Dean being damn sexy, so I thought I do some YT Supernatural vid surfing.

I figured vids using Brittany's "Womanizer" might be good. Lends itself to what I might be looking for. But MY GOD! The crap I came across. (yes, yes, I know it's not good form to diss other people works.... but arghhhh). I just don't get it. Clips that have NOTHING to do with the song or relate to any "theme" of the vid (yes, Dean might look sexy when he's looking at his dead father...but... arghhh, not appropriate!!) gazzillion talking head, long, loooong scenes, credits and just...just... /o\. But here's the thing... one had about 84,000 views. What the...?!??!?

I suppose it's because I usually only watch vids posted here or YT recs. Which means I am totally spoiled by amazing and wonderfully constructed works. And have been for a long time. I just didn't realise it could be so baaaad.

Ok. End rant. I don't mean to be mean. I just had to get that off my chest. *phew*

That said. Can anyone rec me a good Dean and his "moves" vids. I reckon there must be one out there. Or even a montage of sexy Dean scenes...(I know they'd be some of those!!)... but...only ones I can actually sit through. ;) It's totally for research purposes you understand....:D

ETA: For what it's worth I don't believe Dean is a womanizer at all. I think he's a healthy male who appreciates the female form and enjoys sex, but I also think he has a respect for women that is quite deep and not often realised on the show. There's meta here that will have already been written somewhere no doubt, much better than I could write it. But yeah... just thought I'd mention that. :)

LOL, there's a lot of crap out there on YT. It's easy to forget in our insular vidding circle what the average fanvid looks like.

I can't think of a flirting Dean vid off the top of my head (because I usually don't watch those), but this general Dean montage from nicolchen84 does come to mind. There's 247 Dean scenes in it. I'm sure there's something that's bound to inspire you ;)

You know who you sounded like during your rant? Like me when I was wondering about the number of hits received by some of the "less than stellar" vids I found compared to mine.

ROFL! I totally get what you mean. I'm even worse than you in thinking that not only is the video horrible but it's got a lot of views and my vids are SOOOOOO much better than theirs. IT'S NOT FAIR! I should have just as many views ;P ...

Anyways there are a lot of vids out there I'm sure, but I don't know any of them. However, I can help you by making a list of scenes that Dean has been flirty/sexy :)

1. Dead In The Water - kids are awesome! line.
2. Wendigo - the ending when the girl kisses him always has me giggling at Dean's cute/sexyness.
3. Pilot - when he's flurting with Jessica (bad Dean trying to steal Sam's girl) ;P
4. Shadow - when he attempts to flirt with Meg but it backfires
5. Provenance - when he attempts to flirt with Sarah but gets brushed off
6. Fallen Idol - the wink he gives Paris Hilton while tied to the tree. So, classic Dean it's cheesy!
7. IKWYDLS & HH - When he first meets Anna in the Church. And of course every Dean/Anna scene out there ;)
8. Tall Tales - Sam's version of Dean when he's flirting with girls and Dean's version of himself when he's flirting with girls
9. BDABR - When Dean goes to Lisa in hopes of rehashing their bendy days ;)
10. Scarecrow - He doesn't really flirt but I just love how the girl just hangs on to him in the end when she witnesses her family being torn apart. I mean he's just that charming, he doesn't need to flirt to get the ladies to hug him ;)
11. ITGPSW - When Dean flirts with jailbait
12. Heart - when he attempts to flirt with Madison but doesn't work. The scene with him in the strip joint is also a classic Dean being Dean.
13. In The Beginning - his very blasphemous manner when looking in on his mom LOL! Yeh, classic Dean doesn't matter if it is his mom, she's pretty and he's attracted ;P
14. I can't remember the name of the episode, but it's one where he has a pen in his mouth and the waitress flirts with him and then Sam comes and interrupts. vague I know, but it's from season 1 and we see a lot of gifs and clips in vids with that scene.
15. BDABR - Dean and Bella scenes, especially the one in her apartment! So flirty, so hot, so dangerous ;)
16. RSAM - The scenes at the very fancy museum party with Bella and the end when she gives them the money.
17. ASS - Teenage Dean flirting with his teacher + his very high school moves in the janitor's closet.
18. TMS - Dean with the double mint twins.
19. S&V - Dean attempting to impress the doctor but gets cock blocked by Sammy.
20. TSRTS - The beginning with him and the angel/devil strippers.

Gosh! There are so many, but these are the ones that were at the top of my head. Hope it helps a little bit, sorry I couldn't rec you any vids =)

Eesh, how long had it been up? I suppose a lot just has to do with where links have been posted. Plus how recognizable the song is, a lot of people seem to think that song + show clips (any) = vid. Hmm, maybe I could be a vidder after all ...

There were a few decent vids at the Creation Con, but all I kept thinking was that these people winning prizes weren't generally anywhere as good as the vids I come across here. In fact the best vid I saw (and I'll confess, I didn't stick around to watch the vid shows because they just weren't that engaging) was one I'd already seen:

I noticed however that every so often I'd hear screams coming from the ballroom, which made me think at first that one of the guests had appeared (a con is one of the few places you might reasonably expect someone was looking at the actual Jared) and it was just for a given clip from the show. So I think that a large part of the audience doesn't really think about anything besides "Oh, there's a shot of Jensen shirtless!" Depressing, but there you go. Short PWP fic often gets a lot more comments than an excellent gen fic too.

I'm glad you brought this issue up though because until you had I'd kind of forgotten about it when discussing the last con. Normally, being able to watch fan vids in a room full of fellow fans would be a great thing but (aside from the painfully uncomfortable seating) I couldn't be bothered to do it because I didn't feel like we were really sharing anything.

This is because we understand *context*. Actually, IMO, good vidders understand context so well (most of the time) that it can become creatively crippling if they don't start working through it. Change the clip! Make it physically/locally hard to recognize, e.g., Dean being sexy while Daddy Winchester burns? Flip it, zoom it, saturate/desaturate it, blur it, make it b/w.

Oh wait. You didn't need to hear that. LOL I'm just running off at the keyboard because I don't want to work today. Can you tell?

Did you clip Dean dunking Lust in Magnificent Seven? Punching out Ruby in NRFtW? Dean sliding into the grave in CSPWDT? Stabbing Zachariah in the throat (which was so very hot and proved that Dean's eyes don't burn out)...

I've always had the impression that Dean actually really likes women - yes, he likes sex and enjoys looking at women, but you just know that Dean would show you a good time and make sure you came first, if you know what I mean, actually a real gentleman and good fun to be with :)

Well, I think I have to be honest here and say I've made some pretty bad mistakes in my time and they're all still up there on YouTube - hell, I'm probably still making them! But 84,000 hits? *sheesh* I count myself lucky if I get around the 500 mark - I know, hits shouldn't matter and I try not to think about it, but the harder I try to get a vid right, seems the less hits I get, does that mean I'm getting better at this? *shakes head* Logic fails me where YouTube is concerned.

I occasionally bookmark YouTube vids because I like the song and don't own it and use that bookmarks folder to work through (minimized, of course) when I'm doing boring data entry at work. So vids that are sometimes bad get hits from me because of the music. That kind of thing is clearly not the entire reason for the hits on the vids you mentioned, but it could be a contributing cause if others do that, too.
