This fulfils my final prompt "colour" on my
vid_the_grid table!! *throws confetti* \o/
First up - thanks to the lovely
smilla02 for this wonderful song and prompt. I've loved getting my teeth stuck into something meaty. And uh..thank you for your awesome feedback. <33
How on earth do I sufficiently thank my betas on this project?! To
counteragent who has been with me from the very beginning. Listening to my ideas and checking out numerous early drafts. Thank you so much for your help, cheerleading and wonderful ideas. <33
To my long time beta and friend
_sharvie_. I've said it before, but I'll say it again; your eye for detail is down right scary. And damn impressive. Thanks for the push to get this right honey and for your wonderful suggestions. <33
And to
maichan808 for being my "fresh eyes" once all this was pretty much said and done. Your thoughts and comments helped immensely. Thank you sweetie.
Vid Notes
It was very early on that counteragent said to me "epic vid is epic". She was not kidding. *g* Not only in the scope of the story, but the process of putting it together was pretty epic. Not least because I decided to use external footage to help show the world that was saved. It's the first time I've used it to this extent and it certainly has been a learning curve.
I chose to use it because I feel we never really get to see "the real world" in the SPN 'verse. I not only wanted to use it to highlight that fact, but also to show a world that was oblivious to the sacrifices our boys had made.
There are a few themes running through the vid and I suppose I hope the vid speaks for itself. But, in a nutshell, it's an exploration of the various actions that not only set the apocalypse in motion but how each character's journey took them to the moment of being able to save the world.
I also wanted to show a little of who these boys are and why they do what they do. During discussions with counteragent I found it interesting to discover that the boys are all about saving families and yet in saving the world they destroyed their own. There's a little section in the vid dedicated to this side on them.
Enough blab. :D
No money made but comments are gratefully and warmly accepted. <333

Date: 2010-12-03 02:02 pm (UTC)I love reading your notes as much as I love watching your work. Been many years since I've (and my partner at that time) made any vids (totally different fandom and totally so many years ago when we had to use vcr to hardware to pc) and reading your notes made me want to go back and read my notes. For casual viewers, this (work you put in) might not mean much since they're not aware how much work it is but I do. Which is why I so appreciate all your hard work and millions of time you had to edit one scene, one music note, etc. Sorry if this had been addressed, which I'm sure it has before.
I just wanted to say without sounding too mushy, that I'm so glad to have found you in one of my flists. Good job Ash!!!

And I totally love that you mentioned the work that goes into one of these. I suspect only vidders would know..
millions of time you had to edit one scene, one music note, etc
This is so very true! I can't think how many times I worked on that opening section. Those freeze frames and trying to get the timing right on each of those was probably the thing I worked on the most. And then there's the decisions on what type of transitions to use and I usually work over that stuff a gazillion times.
So ... thank you! I do love the process of making these, but yeah... especially with one like this, it can take a lot of time. <333

Date: 2010-12-03 02:09 pm (UTC)Everything fits in this vid. Everything explains itself. And the perfect, perfect editing is a dream. It doesn't give you a chance to loose your attention for even a split second. My, what a vid!!! \o/ ♥♥♥
I have to say next to the Castiel vid this is definitely my favorite. How do you manage to get better and better? I mean I keep thinking with every vid: now she is at the top. And then you come up with something that is even better, more layered, more perfect! Arrgghh...
YOU are a vidding God! ^_^
Thank you for bringing us such stunning entertainment my Dear!♥ *bows deeply*
*goes to watch again*

Date: 2010-12-05 03:29 am (UTC)I love this statement and I think you nailed what made this show so interesting and heartbreaking to begin with.
Great premise for a vid and the song was really powerful and perfect for the concept (though I had it stuck in my head for like two days after watching ;P)
It must have taken forever to get all that external footage, but it definitely did show the contrast between the "everyday" lives of people and what the boys were doing to try and save them. Really liked too how you focused on each of the three characters individually.
Well done dearie! *applauds*

Date: 2010-12-05 10:15 am (UTC)Finding the footage was a bit of a pain. I still didn't really get everything I wanted, but I had to settle for what I ended up finding. I was happy to find the timelapse stuff because it had a lot of images I liked. :)
Thanks again sweets. :D

Date: 2010-12-05 11:30 pm (UTC)Wow. Just...WOW!
Your vids are always something special, but I think you may have outdone yourself this time, kiddo. And the really special thing is you took a song that's been vidded really superbly in this fandom by another talented vidder and made it your own. That's tough to do. But you succeeded brilliantly.
The song lends itself wonderfully to SPN and vidding in general with its rhythm and lyrics, and the way you used it to chronicle the journeys, not only of Sam and Dean, but of Cas, worked better than I ever could have imagined. I was enthralled. Truly. Good, good stuff.

Date: 2010-12-06 05:05 am (UTC)I didn't know it had been vidded before (which is probably a good thing otherwise I might have been tempted to check it out)... was it the sweetiejen one? I've since seen it and really liked what she did with it.
Thanks again sweetie. Every now and then I like to get my teeth stuck into something meaty. Which means it'll probably be something light and fluffy next... :D :D
*heffa hugs*

Date: 2010-12-07 09:18 am (UTC)How hard was it figure out what you were going to do for your color prompt?
See. I couldn't figure out what to do so I held a vid raffle. Anyone who had a song in mind commented and then I randomly gave each person a letter and my flist voted. <lj user="smilla02" won. She gave me this amazing song and a great prompt. I knew I could use some colour filters to fulfil the prompt. I have put filters on each other characters, plus I played with some other colour stuff. So yeah. That's how hard that one was. And why it was last. Everything thing else on my table just seemed to fit what I was doing anyway. Colour was my hardest.. <333

Date: 2010-12-12 08:27 pm (UTC)Seriously though, structure wise alone, this thing is excellent. I never would have thought something like this would work, with the three different POV sections but the way you brought it together for one massive Team Free Will FTW, just makes it work! PERFECTLY.
Also, I really loved the compassion for the people they’ve saved part, since I feel like the show has kinda lost track of showing that itself anymore, you know? It was a small section, but it brought sewed the beginning and ending caps together well!

Yeah. We don't see that much any more do we? Such a shame because it was their driving motivation for so long. Before it all became so grand. It was something
I'm so happy you had a chance to take a look. Thanks again for your wonderful feedback. I really appreciate it. <333

Date: 2010-12-19 02:05 am (UTC)First of all, I love the beginning with the time lapsed footage then to the stop motion frames was absolutely gorgeous! I love the vid featured all three characters POV and how each of them played their part into the impending Apocalypse. Your ability to tell a story is like non other than I've ever seen before and your timing is always impeccable - every bat of the eyelash to the clink of a beer leaves me smiling so hard.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful masterpiece with me. I cannot wait to see what you do next. :-)

Oh man, I've just pulled out a vid I shelved a while back. Just tinkering at the moment. But it's soooo depressing. I do have some crack ideas up my sleeve for later in the year though. :D
Thanks again for popping in to watch this one. :)
