*phew* I'm back in (vidding) business. Seems like forking out $20 is the answer after all. Though still no idea why QT has a trim option but no way to export the file.....

Anyways..

It's Chrissy eve. All is prepared for a day of present opening, family merriment and food.

gets out soapbox, briefly. Skip if you don't want to hear my impression of a Grumpy Old Woman )

The love part is spending time with family, sharing gifts that have been really thought about and relaxing because really there's nothing else to do. And I also get a lot of glee from watching my daughter open presents. That's always been pretty magical.

So. MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all. Or HAPPY HOLIDAYS if you don't celebrate it. Or LOVE AND SMISHES just 'cause. I really do hope you all have a wonderful time.

Check you on the flip side. <3 <3

My garden has some beautiful flowers in it at the moment. I just love looking at them.

Knowing that they will disappear soon I asked my 12 year old daughter to take a photo of each flower. I decided to try my hand at putting some of them into a small montage in Photoshop. I have never used this program before...and, it's not easy! I have utter admiration for those of you who know how to use it. So please excuse how crappy this looks. But (as I said with my first ever vid!) you have to start somewhere.....

Anyway - here is a snap shot of my back yard. This represents only about a third of everything that is blooming at the moment. And of course I had to include a shot of Charlie. And the chooks...

*meep* I wasn't going to post this... )

This is our latest addition to the family .....

Check out his eyes! Sammy anyone??!! Actually I did suggest Sammy as a name (of course!) but my daughter had already picked Charlie. Which I like too. He's a Labrador X Border Collie. He's looks utterly pathetic here but he's as cute as pie and really smart.

We now have a dog, 2 cats (who are a bit put out at the moment!) , 2 mice, 3 chooks and a number of fish. I grew up without pets.... I wonder if that's why I have a few now. *hugs* them all.

I'm back! Well..... sort of.

I returned from my jaunt over east a few days back but I'm only now opening LJ (for reasons I'll explain below) and I feel sooooo out of touch. You've all been so busy lately and I have no idea where to start to try and catch up.

Firstly ... the holiday highs and lows ...

The Highs:

Catching up with my family - ALL of them. Not often we are all together so it was kinda special (but also full on!)

Seeing Melbourne again after a few years away. I forgot how vibrant and interesting the place can be.

Meeting up with the absolutely wonderful [livejournal.com profile] missyjack. This was a real highlight and I am sooo proud of myself for not chickening out! It was a first for me - putting a face and actual person behind a name. And even though I was fairly nervous about it, I had no need to be. She's as awesome in real life as she is on line and I feel privileged to have been able to meet her. Thanks again sweetie - it still brings a smile to my face when I think about of brief time together.

The Lows:

Missing my own personal space. A much as I loved seeing the family again there is nothing quite like getting home to my own space.

Seeing The Day the Earth Stood Still. I went in with low expectations anyway, but even that didn't help. At least I caught up on some much need sleep.

Having a massive argument with my husband about the time I spend on SPN.

rantings of the personal kind )

I have to say I have never received such a variety of adjectives to describe one of my vids as I have done with Supernatural Waltz. (from here, SVS & YT)

unusual, creepy, funny, different, gross, wicked, disturbing, wrong, twisted, elegant, original, gruesome .... Hee! :D They truly brought a smile to my face. (I thought I might have got "tasteless" - I suppose people may have thought that. It's probably good that they didn't tell me that I suppose.) :)

A note to the wonderful and generous vidders who agreed to help with the "movie genre" vid. It's on hold for the moment. The inspiration has deserted me - not to mention the time. It may have been a little ambitious anyway ....... but huge hugs to you gals for entertaining my fanciful ideas!!! *smishes* It may re-emerge next year.....

I'm off on a zoo sleepover with 25 eleven and twelve year olds tomorrow night - eeek!! The things we do .... I won't be on line for (omg!) a whole day and night. I think I might just suffer from withdrawal! I think I'm up to date with all my extra-curricula (on-line SPN) activities . :D If not, I'll catch up with them over the week end.

I am working on my first S4 vid which seems to keep changing directions. It's taking me to my happy place though. With lyrics like "If you've got troubles, I've got 'em too" - how can it not. I think it may even have a smidgen of Sam/Dean in it .... we'll see.

*hugs* you all.

So it's semester 2 at school, which means sex-ed. time. Teaching and talking about sex to 11 and 12 year olds is always interesting.

I usually start the sessions with an informal chat and encourage questions. The kids really seem to like it and it's amazing how comfortable they become during the session. I can usually address most questions. But this kinda left me lost for words (which is fairly rare).

"Miss, can you put sperm in a cake?"

Ummm... hang on, one minute we're talking about egg fertilisation and now you want to discuss cake recipes?

Of course my brain is going ... well you can actually swallow....., no that might be a bit much, well it tastes kinda .... no not sure I want to go there just at the moment....

And this is just the first session!

*checks internet for a sperm cake recipe*
